Electricity and Gas in NSW. Anything better than this Red Energy deal?

Like many, I'm trying to find a better deal on Gas (Jemena coastal) & Electricity (Endeavour)! I was with Alinta until late last year, then changed to Globird. Like many retailers, Globird put prices up drastically from 1st July.

Old rates:
Electricity - $0.869 daily, $0.2728/kWh, $0.04 solar feed in.
Gas - $0.572 daily, $0.0407/MJ.

New rates:
Electricity - $1.21 daily, $0.4125/kWh, $0.03 solar feed in.
Gas - $0.627 daily, $0.06765/MJ

I've checked the EnergyMadeEasy website and the below Red Energy deal seems like my best option (confirmed the same pricing on the red energy website as of today).
Electricity - $0.85745 daily, $0.32615/kWh, $0.03 solar feed in.
Gas - $0.8250 daily, $0.03938 step 1, $0.03278 step 2, $0.03102 step 3, $0.02838 step 4, $0.02662 step 5.

I tried to signup online but keep getting an error, so I will need to call them to sign up to this plan. Before I do though, I wanted to check if any existing Red Energy customers are aware of price increases coming up and when they will take effect? Otherwise, any other better deals to consider before signing up?

Thanks in advance!

  • Red energy prices likely don't account for upcoming price changes

    try wattever and compare

  • EnergyMadeEasy does not compare all the providers available. I got a list of providers and checked each one from their website to find the best deal.

  • Always go to other comparison sites. Then go to the provider side and compare.

The direct website will tell you the actual deal

Comparison sites will only show you current rates, I had a good rate then when I went it the website, the provider showed rate change from 1st August.

Some manual work needs to be done but worth it if you can find a better rate.

  • I've checked the website directly for a couple of deals (looks like AGL first time and Red Energy are the best deals with solar feed in), but I'm concerned that these prices are still showing pre price rise and will go up right after I sign up! I could wait until after August 1st and hope all the rises have come into effect by then? Is there some kind of period after signup where they can't put the prices up if I sign up based on the website prices earlier?

The rates you’re seeing now are the pre updated prices. Retailers send out the price change letters to exisiting customers first, as they are required to inform exisiting customers of any price change X days prior.

The rates your seeing online are old, and will all change 1 August.

I would check again after 1st August otherwise you are wasting your time.

How is it that folks keep posting up asking about power deals for their area…….as others have said energymadeeasy - its literally all right there.

  • wattever.com.au is better than EME

    • I don't see a way to compare anonymously, unlike EME.

I'm not sure why u wish to be anonymous but you could use a fake email address.

  • Unbundle if you can.

  • Not all retailers put up their prices at the same time, but most of them do so between May and September. Before you make a move, confirm with whoever you are considering when the last price increase was and when the next one is expected.

I seriously doubt that Red will be the best price in another 2 ~ 3 months time and may not even be better than Globird in just a few weeks. If you don't mind switching often, then a couple of months may be suitable. A couple of weeks - probably not.

For what it's worth, the price bump that Globird have advised takes my rates to a figure that is lower than the best plan they advertise on Energy Made Easy. Maybe I'm getting some kind of grandafthered plan? I dunno. I've only been with them for 6 months.
