Alrightish phone for $388. can be further reduced by perks $10 and discounted JB Gift cards
I think ATL price without using any gimmicks.

I'm still using mine since release. The only real issue I've got is the 'in-display' fingerprint reader, which works around 1 in every 20 tries.
Really hoping the Pixel 10 ticks the boxes!
Has a flaw with the camera glass and sensor (and software), on-screen touch including brightness response, Bluetooth advrp issue, etc. there's also a weird boot issue that was popular back then
Cant say I've noticed any issues with my camera, touch, brightness or Bluetooth, personally! It's been pretty great over the 3~ years I've used it.
If the P10 doesn't work for me, I think I'll try the s25. Really don't like the trend of bigger and bigger phones.
I've also had the 7 since release and agree that it's fine except for the fingerprint sensor, which on mine fails about 1 in 4 times. It can be frustrating at times when using it to pay in stores, so I would buy a cheaper Motorola if I were the OP. The fingerprint sensor on the two Motorola phones I've used never failed.
it's not fine if the key unlock method fails 25% of the time…
@Crono: it's like saying my car is fine except it doesnt start 1/4 of the time when I turn the key.
The things people will accept as okay is mind boggling.
@Nalar: Fingerprint recognition is expected to fail occasionally due to misaligned and wet fingers etc. trying again is minimal effort and time. It's like expecting striking a match or starting a mower to work on first try, trying again is both expected and acceptable.
For what it's worth my fingerprints reader on my pixel 7 works 90% of the times, or 100% of the time if I take care placing my finger correctly.
Have you tried to report to google about the overheating issue? I got $500 google credit back for my Pixel 7a which I still use today. Just waiting for a chance to buy a Pixel 9 when it's on sale….
The fingerprint reader thing seems to vary depending on either the phone or the person. Mine works 19 times out of 20, but others report the same issue that you've got.
I find this surprising, mine works 99 PC of the time, I bought mine later for cheap, not on release not sure if that'd make a difference. I hated the dedicated one on S5 as it would fail 1 in 3.
Do you have a privacy screen protector?
Mine was flawless with regular tempered glass.. the moment i put the privacy protector, the fingerprint scanner wouldn't work properly.. i couldn't even save my fingerprint for security unlock.
Like what? I know 6 had issues, but my 7 has been fine.
See my comment above. If yours is fine, then great. But I wouldn't play with this when there are other options in the price range
i bought one a couple of years ago and was having touch sensitivity issues in the bottom left of the screen. returned it and got a refund.
Just commented 40 seconds ahead of you but yes this
Had the exact same issue! I sent it in for warranty fix recently and waiting to hear back…
Haven't had any issues with mine since release.
don't fearmonger people into not buying a good phone.
for under 400 its a good deal.
ive had my pixel 7 pro since launch, no issues. bought my parents a 7 each on launch and no issues
agreed, the comment is pretty useless. its a great phone
my pixel 7 died twice in 1 and half year, the one bought from telstra deal. Went to telstra store yesterday for another replacement, lets see what happens.
I used it for a year (now have a Pixel 9)
The only issue for me was the 5G antenna which slammed the battery.
Once you switch it to 4G only it's a great phone.
Been using for 2 years with no issues. One of the best value for money phones I had.
facial recog is also non existence in low light, finger print is problematic, battery a shame, etc
Compare to Moto-Edge-50-Neo: starting point, https://nanoreview.net/en/phone-compare/motorola-edge-50-neo…
Better camera? https://www.dxomark.com/google-pixel-7-camera-test/
Will there be more up-vote if the price drop to $300?
I went from a 6a to an Edge 50 Neo. The Edge's camera is far too overprocessed, making everything seem overly contrasty, my 6a was considerbaly better in that regard, and I suspect the 7 would be too. The screen also seems to have a permenant oversharpening on, which I would guess means whilst the Neo outperforms the 7 on paper, the 7 will look better in person.
The edge is a solid phone for $300, but I wouldn't pay any more than that for it.
Have the edge 50 neo. And I like everything except the camera. I'm on the look out for something better just because of that
Everything camera wise on my moto devices have been disappointing I hate the poor auto focus auto brightness in camera and high amount of hdr processing and forceed processing because clicking the phoot in photo mode isn't waht i get from what i see due to the processing.
absolutely disappointing.
I believe you.
I just don't want the phone with tensor cores because I've heard it has so much bugs. keyboard showing up incorrectly is a commonly complaint one.
Also, ever since the 6, Google have demonstrate very inconsistent QC.
So as much as I would want a Google phone camera, one of the best in the industry, I still wanna wait till Google get their shit together.
I've got the 7
Had a lot of issues in the past with Xiaomi phones with broken screens. The pixel 7 with quadlock case has been bomb proof for 2 years. No problems so far
Unrelated but has anyone's google photos been crashing upon opening since the new app update? I have a pixel 8 pro
It is fine on mine. 7.36.0.779865778
Good if you want to try something like Graphene os. Otherwise more recent release from other brand would be better.
I personally had 7 from day one, like other people mentioned above my only issue was the finger printer scanner too. To me it works 7 out of 10 tries. Currently running graphene os on my p8 and have p8 pro google stock.
Also if you still have that 30 off 300 spend, don't forget.
CalyxOS is also a good alternative. Bet it would fly on one of these.
Is that de googled like Graphene?
yes, https://calyxos.org/
Even on an old, low-range phone I'm using for it, I'm blown away. First smartphone I've ever had that actually lasts several days of battery. Super fast to use too.
Graphene os is the only reason I'd buy a pixel.
Also if you still have that 30 off 300 spend, don't forget
Pretty sure that ended on Monday.
197g weight lol. What's going on there… my Pixel 5 is 151g
Glass vs plastic, back material.
Screen on the P7 is only 0.3" bigger, and battery only 275 mAh more capacity,
so must be that Huge Solid Aluminium Camera Bar and maybe the difference
between glass back on the P7 v Aluminium on the P5 ? Possibly a more solid build
as I have the P7 and feels pretty solid and nice to me, although I would not want heavier.
My backup Moto G84 has bigger screen And is lighter at 166.8 gram and feels light.
The Pixel 5 was an amazing phone, as long as you were OK with (by todays standards) a small screen. I still carry mine as a backup when travelling due to how small it is.
How is 6.0" a "small" screen when current phones like S25 are only 0.2" larger?
I'm still using my P5 as my daily, I love the size and it's still smooth as. Battery still gets 5-6 hours screen on time. Still gets unlimited Google photo storage. I have no desire to upgrade any time soon.
My partner has one of these and is very happy with it. I had idea they were so bad.
Is Samsung likely to issue refund on these like they have with other models?
"Samsung" ?
Oops.
We knew you meant "Google"
Great price, my wife has one, no issues
No issue with wife or phone?
Hahaha
great price, 8a can be purchased for $350 when release.
i know right
Got the $500 deal a couple years ago on here. Has been a solid phone, no issues.
Same. No finger print reading issues either
I e got the pixel 7 and it's almost absolutely fine. Finger print reader decided to not work when opening the phone often but I have faceunovk anyway.
It's a decent price if your on a strict budget and want a pixel but Id probably get a pixel 8 when it drops around the 500 mark.
Also happy with my Pixel 7 still. Was very tempted to get the P8 when it was on sale for $399
last month, but will come around agian. Worth it for the extra OS support for few more years.
Much of an improvement over the pixel 6? My 6 currently crackly abit with volume at max and battery could be better, tho tbf its a 3 years old and still running fine, ideally not trying too spend more than $4-$500 for something.thatll last another 3years
Yep a decent improvement over the 6. The improvements beyond P7 are more incremental…
Cheers thankyou!
Great phone. Still using after almost 3 years. Amazing price really. The camera on this is still better than my partner's iPhone 16 pro. Only complaint is battery life isn't amazing but really I'm always near a charger if needed.
Better than a 16 Pro? Really? What are you taking photos of? A wall?
bought the Pixel 8a for $487 yesterday for my elderly dad who has been using Android for ages, I hope he'll like it.
from where?
from JB Hifi with $30 perks code
No issues with mine either. Bought through the Telstra deal.
I don't use fingerprint so can't comment on the sensor issues though
Had no issues with my pixel 7 till my dog decided to bite on it
Only issue is the lens cover glass cracks randomly. Apparently from cold weather.
Mine got replaced under warranty for this… The replacement now also has a cracked lens glass cover, but warranty has expired. Sadface.png
Do you live or go in really cold parts of Australia or the world ?
I recently had the same issue and also out of warranty. How did you go about replacing the camera lens cover?
Very happy with my 7. No issues whatsoever. Great camera. Clean os.
7 isn't the greatest battery king. A light user will find it perfectly fine. Heavier users will find the battery pretty mid at 100% fresh capacity, and a couple years down the track may not last a day. I get 4hrs SoT
accubattery reckons 78% health based on capacity/charging. Had since end 2022 as I broke my pixel 5.
It's fine as far as speed and performance goes.
Fingerprint is mostly fine if you have clean, not dried out but also not wet fingers. Through a screen protector is notably worse, though.
I'm hoping mine holds out til next year, either grab a sick deal on a 10 pro when they're clearing them out or even better hold out for the 11.
I've had mine for 1.5 years, and at the end of the day I usually have 50% battery.
Fingerprint sensor is a pain. As you said, not too wet, not too dry. In emergency scenarios, lick your thumb then dry it slightly. You may be right about the screen protector - haven't tried it without.
You've gotta be a lighter user haha. Mines sub 20% everyday guaranteed.
Yeah, most of the battery use is ozbargain browsing :)
Put GrapheneOS on this and you’ll be golden.
5 years of OS updates/patches from release, which was almost 3 years ago. Compared to most other non-Apple brands, 2 years is still excellent. Compared to the newer Pixel it's not so much (eg, Pixel 8 has >5 years of support left!)
Wife has one of these, take incredible photos (I am not a photographer by any stretch of the imagination though). Rivals if not beats my Xiaomi 13 Pro's pictures.
I miss the Pixel 5.
Google please bring back rear finger print reader & a 5.9-6 inch display in a compact form factor. Ditch the tensor cpu & use the bloody Qualcomm Snapdragon flagship processor.
- Snapdragon 8 Elite 2
- 6” Samsung Ltpo display 1-120hz with high frequency pwm
- rear fingerprint reader
- non-glass rear backplate. Composite bio material.
- 3.5mm jack
- at least 8 years OS & security updates
This formula already boosts your sales by at least 30% compared to p1-9 launch sales figures.
C’mon Google you can make the change. More than capable!
pixel 2 fingerprint reader was perfect on the back, phone was so small compared to current pixels tho lol. also miss front firing speakers on top and bottom
Though I love my 4a, this makes me wonder if it would be an upgrade…
Also got a 4a that is starting to get creaky. Some apps don't sync messages without a restart and the power button lock is temperamental at best.
Would this be a decent upgrade is the question…
This or keep my dying Pixel 6 Pro?
such a good phone that it's making it difficult for me to justify upgrading yet, had it for 2 years and still going strong
my only issue is battery life is beginning to be poor, finger print sensor can be inconsistent and being a full brightness user has resulted in extreme burn in
Not really a deal now? It's the last year of OS update for it… I got mine for $499 with last years JB Hifi deal… replaced it last month with the TGG Pixel 8 $399 deal and that thing has 7yrs of OS updates. But this price still better than people trying to flog this phone for $400+ on FB marketplace
In saying that, the Pixel 7 was a flawless phone for me… always had case and screen protector from new (as with all my phones) so not sure if batch related or those with problems with theirs are triggering issues by dropping the phone?
The Pixel 1 was notorious for the mic/audio not working when dropped because the sound processor chip wasn't welded on properly (known common issue).. only way to fix it was to take the screen off and heat gun the chip
interest, my pixel 6 fingerprint reader works maybe 1/10 times, but it has a thick screen protector, so i thought that was the reason, looks like they didn't improve on it with 7. only other fault I have is volte vowifi and 5g in unsupported country is turned off.
I returned mine 3x due to faults. Screen issues. It's now dead and I didn't bother returning it this time.
Why is the 7 Pro still $1299 at JB lol
