The days are getting longer! Ride more for less with 50% off a Lug+Carrie eBike subscription for 8 weeks. Limited time only.

I personally used Lug+Carrie in 2023 to lease a Tern electric cargo bike for a year, riding to work and back (12 km each way, twice a week) and 30 km on weekends and in between, around Pascoe Vale, Northcote, and the CBD in Melbourne. Their service was excellent, and the bike was a fantastic way to get started with eBikes at a low cost. It gave me the chance to:

  • Learn about eBike technology
  • Understand my commuting needs
  • Evaluate expenses and necessary adjustments

After the lease, I purchased my own electric cargo bike — a Riese & Müller Multitinker — and now ride it to the office three times a week (10 km each way) and around 30 km per week otherwise. The experience I gained through Lug+Carrie was invaluable.

The electric cargo bike has replaced a car for most of my short trips and commuting, with free parking at work and in the city. I highly recommend giving it a go.

Why this deal is great:
  • ✅ Beat the traffic
  • ✅ Save money compared to a car
  • ✅ Bosch-powered eBikes flatten hills with ease
  • ✅ Try before you buy

They offer a wide variety of bikes for lease, and after 6 months you can buy the bike at a discount. This current corporate sale gives everyone access to the 8-week trial at half price, which is a great way to test the waters before committing.

Highly recommended from a happy former customer.

Will this reduce the prices for Uber Eats?

  • A reminder to read and follow our title guidelines. In particular, the basic requirements to include the product name, the price, the delivery fee and/or delivery information and the name of the store. You can find the edit button on the submenu located between the deal title and your user name.

    • I did my best. It's a non existing category. It's a bike leasing or service. Not a product. Happy to correct as required. Please advise if anything can be improved.

  • this post has all the hallmarks of GPT, I'm sure you mean well however

  • Can I ask, how big of a problem is bike theft in Melbourne? I was keen to splash out for an e-bike but this one thing has put me off. These leases are somewhat pricey(judging from the buyout price), but a few weeks ago, a random 30-minute bike ride on lime cost me almost $50 anyway.

    • It's not too bad, I've been riding for years and never had one stolen. I've had a Tern cargo ebike for the past year and actually have insurance in case it gets stolen.
Having parked it everywhere and not had any issues, I'm thinking of ditching the insurance next year.

      • Whoa, that is quite brave, given the buyout amount is so high. That said, nice to know you've got such confidence in the system

I usually park at E-bikes at work in the basement, so it's very safe. But I've also parked on the street for the day with a chain or a D lock. In daytime in a public place it's ok, I would not leave it overnight on the street. But some do, especially when you take out the battery, it makes it much less attractive to theft. On my current bike I have a GPS Bosch tracker With a subscription (200$ per year or so), and a removable FOB that makes the bike a dud without it and an alarm. I also have a big Abus lock with an alarm when needed, and you can add the bike as a property to your house insurance to cover it for theft, even outside of your house. If you are smart you will be ok, don't let it stop you. If you need an Ebike you can learn how to be safe with it and utilise it well very quickly.

Cheapest cargo bike I could find was $49/week ($2548/year).

For $3497 a new Pedal Packer with bigger wheels, double battery capacity (1036Wh), simple reliable Ananda motor with more torque and less complex (problematic) Bosch electrics.

Amortised over 2 years @ $34/week and you own it… and can park it anywhere.

If you are happy with it and you know what need, go for it! Leasing a car or a bike has a cost vs buying. They have very high quality Tern and Riese and Muller Electric cargo bikes that cost around 10,000 AUD. Not everyone are ready for this purchase or need it for long term. They offer luxury style service (like home delivery and maintenance etc). It's not for everyone, but it's extremely easy to get started, and it's very popular, especially for people with little to no experience with e-bikes and who appreciate the support and service.

  • Is this available for existing customers?

  • FYI this expired on Monday apparently. We booked Monday for a test ride today, only to be told we missed the discount.
Bit annoying as it wasn't mentioned anywhere.
The only discount option atm is 50% off for 4 weeks for referred users, or the same 50% off for 8 weeks for Bicycle Queensland members.
