    Any human bed?

    • +32

      Duck beds only.

    • +2

Combine a few to make one human bed?

    • +2

You go to Koala for that

  • +2

Thanks. New set up sorted. Better than the dog house.

    • +1

if you want to do up the dog house the dog bed might be a good fit?

  • +3

I don't understand why the TV commercials say the base weighs 50 kilograms and that it's a good thing?

    • +6

Predominantly because weight is an indication of build quality and sturdiness.

    • +2

      Different products.

  • +1

    D’oh! I’m ill-equipped to sleep on either…

  • +1

Can i use it with any mattress or just theirs. I want to ditch the large bed frame in my spare room

    • Want to know this also

    • +1

Two things that need to be considered in using any mattress with a bed frame: the size of the frame (matching the size of the mattress from either an Australian sized standard) and the weight bearing limit of the frame, (person's weight plus the weight of the mattress).
Note: I could not find the maximum load. They do seem sturdy though with a strong steel frame.
      Their listing:
      King: 203cm x 183cm x 25cm, 48kg
      Queen: 203cm x 153cm x 25cm, 38kg
      Double: 188cm x 138cm x 25cm, 37kg
      King Single: 203cm x 107cm x 25cm, 31kg
      Single: 188cm x 92cm x 25cm, 29kg

      Floor to top mattress: 56cm
Floor to bottom of frame: 12.5cm

Note: tolerance of error for these dimensions is -2cm/+5cm

There are different styles, which incorporate headboards etc,.

  • I don't think it applies to their indestructible bed base.

    • +1

      No just the older model

  • +1

Anyone know if I can get my own head board installed if I get this base?

    • +1

we made our own headboard then leaned it aginst the wall and jammed in the bedbase against it

  • +1

I hate my sleeping duck mattress, gets too hot during summer.

    • That happens to Emma too, i think all the box mattress with plush might have the same problem

      • +1

I dont have that problem with the Emma

    • +1

Buy a cheap but firm mattress and a good quality foam mattress topper.

    • +4

Synthetic foam is very hot to sleep on. It's why you keep seeing gimmicks like 'gel infused memory foam' to attempt mitigate foams heat bounce. But they are typically very thin layers and do little.

Go for an all latex mattress. It has some serious thermal mass and heat conductivity. Much cooler to sleep on. Also happens to last 20 years vs 5 years of typically foam mattress.

      • Any decent brands to keep an eye out for?

        • We just went with whatever was Ikea's firmest mattress and it was great for ~a decade. It then had a fault (seemed to split in some place) so they gave us a credit for the same value (model no longer stocked) and we got the firmest model at that point in time, and it was also great. Split from my wife a couple of years back so… got whatever the firmest model was again, and it's still great. VÅGSTRANDA was the latest one.

No idea why anyone would put any kind of topper on top of a mattress, especially if they find them too hot, so never tortured myself with that.

    • Same, I put a fan under my bed to move airflow, definitely helps.

  • +1

Can anyone speak to their experience with this base?

    • -8

Slatted bed bases are junks and will ruin your mattress and back quickly.

      • +2

It's not quite as black and white as that. A lot are made cheaply, but some are very solid options.

      • +6

I don't think this is true at all?

Solid wood slats that are well spaced but also strong/sturdy and properly distribute the load are perfectly fine.

FLEXIBLE slats should be avoided, yes.

Best bed base would probably be a slab on the floor but perhaps not great for airflow/preventing mould etc.

      • +7

        OK princess.

Hundreds of millions of people use slatted bed bases and don't have an issue with their backs or mattresses as a result. And they've done so over hundreds of years

  • +1

Thanks, my boy is going to sleep like a duck

  • +2

Buying this will piss missus off but I guess dog house is going to be comfier now.

  • +3

    I'm a duck. Quack quack 🦆

  • +1

Bit annoying how it doesn't have a proper bed frame/back board

  • Any one else got the Indestructible bed frame and find it squeaky?

  • +2

    Queen s3ld out :(

  • +3

This base looks like it has flexible slats? Just like any cheapo version?
Can anyone enlighten me as to why this is better?

    • +3

It probably isn't. These mattress in a box companies sell cheaply manufactured products wrapped in 10 layers of marketing.

  • +2

I got a king size Duckie from the Salvos recently for just $600, so quite the discount. Sadly it's a POS. I swear a piece of concrete would have more give in it than this thing. Currently waiting on a mattress topper to be delivered to see if it cures the hip pain and shoulder pain I wake up in every gosh dang diddly darned morning.

If you're in Sydney, give Ausbeds a trial in Marrickville. I think the owner surfs these posts/forums occasionally.

We got ours and my partners bursitis pain is completely gone from leaning on the affected side. Note that we got the Cloud9 though… The most expensive. Has pocketsprings (similar to SD, but theyre more compact, he showed us a demo in-showroom and the SD are more generic/not as compact so the weight distribution isnt as good) and then they have their comfort topper. The cloud9 has a latex 5cm, microsprings, 1.5 latex, microspring, 1.5 latex then springs. Aurora has one less microspring/latex layer.

We were close to going all out for a Sealy.. but ultimately even their 'crown' jewel only uses one layer of microsprings along with their comfort/primary spring layer. Not flippable either or customisable.

After laying in the showroom my partner was sold, and she's been super happy since. (a few weeks ago) - I'm still adjusting but I've got a bad sleeping posture personally…

Weight plays an important factor - lighter people seem to care a lot less about how supportive a mattress is I've found (per my friends I talk to anecdotally).

Funnily my massage therapist uses a sleeping duck and loves hers.. Personal preference I guess!

      • +1

"I think the owner surfs these posts/forums occasionally."

        Yes I sure do,

"I'm still adjusting but I've got a bad sleeping posture personally…"

Did you try the half half felt option? Give me a call if you aren't comfy, sometimes it's really easy to make a quick adjustment to get people comfy. It's a bit harder when the partner requires something different to you, this restricts things a bit but there's still things that can be done.

Thanks for the shoutout, karl from ausbeds

    • Buy from an actual proper store. Buy once cry once

Devastated the Queen size is sold out. I recently bought the Mach 2 Sleeping Duck and it is AMAZING.

  • Are these legit codes? Just wondering if they are going to cancel my order.

    • +3

      Probably are.

Likely clearing their old base to focus both space and marketing on their fancy new one that's 4x the price.

  • The queen is out of stock :(

  • My dog sleeps on a bed base that costs more than my own…. FML

  • Sorry can someone clarify is it for duck or dog?

  • The base in Queen must be sold out

    • -1

      Why??

      • -1

You can't select to add it to cart

  • Anyone know how long the deal goes for?
