Elegoo Centauri Carbon CoreXY 3D Printer $629 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Jaycar

100

Jaycar has the Elegoo Centauri Carbon on sale for $629 which is still off the $299 USD even with taxes but it's still better than $699 retail pricing.

The preorder special was $649 but these are in stock

Multi filament chamber has been confirmed for Q3/Q4 but who knows when it will actually ship and if it will have any bugs to iron out.

I would still go for the Bambu P1S at this price, particularly last week when the sale was still on. It's now at a new price of $779.

  • @impoze you are quick. I literally just saw this on facebook.

Then came looking for some Jaycar vouchers.

    • I saw it through email.

Someone needs to teach Jaycar about bulk pricing.

    Buy 1 $629 per unit.
    Buy 2 $699 per unit

Still nowhere near competitive pricing seeing as none of the other big players slog us with Australia tax. Plenty of better options for the price (or equivalent options for much cheaper).

    • Like?
But I agree, the centauri carbon probably sold less than 10 units in all of Australia, the local pricing makes no sense, the low price is what is supposed to be the whole point of the model (at least in the rest of the world).

      • Depends on need, but as always either Bambu for reliability or embrace the tinker and go Flashforge, Anycubic, Sovol, etc. All have a variety of options (and customisations).

Personally, I wanted to tinker so I bought an AD5M for ~$330 on one of their regular sales (which in the US has the same RRP as this printer!) and added the enclosure kit for about $60 more. With some setup and flashed firmware (a klipper mod) it has better print quality than my A1 mini, prints ABS, has all the benefits of klipper, etc. Very happy with that decision (though I do wish for a bigger build plate occasionally).

          Bambu for reliability

Can this be said for the shit they just tried pushing with the firmware stuff?

          • +4

@Mooncakes: Totally valid, I try and avoid talking about that here as I generally get too far up on my soapbox, and a lot of people don't seem to care. But I won't be buying another printer from them, and it's more about how they handled the controversy (trying to 1984 the truth).

          • +1

@Mooncakes: Tbh, for sure. Some people want to print, don't want to tinker, and are happy to pay for that.
I hope to god that the community manages to hold the line against Bambu enshitification, but there are plenty of people out there who would choose not to 3d print over having to level a bed or wire something up.

    • as I mentioned in the OP, it' needs to be around $500 to be competitive.

  • Cashrewards has 5% on jaycar gift card very tempting

    • If anyone goes tries the gift card trick, would love to hear of you were successful.

  • Is this the upgraded model? Eg the improved cabinet light

    • From what I've read online, it was an update after the earlier batches, not sure from what date or if any local stock will be new or old.

    • +1

Most likely. I bought one from jaycar about 3 weeks ago and had the ams port, upgraded light (but only one on the side think there might be two now).

Couple hundred hours on it and it prints pla and petg like a dream. Haven’t tried anything more advanced yet. But so far had very few issues. I’d be tempted to pick up another one.

      • Likewise, bought from jaycar, had all the updates, new duo lights, ams port, rubber door stops, new springs in heated bed, deeper chamfer edge and raised feeding port.
It been going incredible, ABS, PETG, PLA (and the many variants), no major issues.
Will now talk to my bank about price change reimbursement.

  • They are currently on pre-order special for $629.10+del on their own site as well.

The plastic waste generated by these AMS system printers grinds my gears. I'll wait and see what this new Snapmaker U1 is about.

    • @YiLin from Elegoo has just mentioned that and added mention of Topcashback. It's actually 6%.

Hi Sir, ELEGOO Centauri Carbon starts! Sells for $629 at this moment, use Topcashback, you can get 5% rewards:)

Jaycar would be in stock though compared to preorder.

I agree with the purge wastage though, we need more multi-head printer options.
Even the H2D can do minimal waste for certain designs as shown in this latest Loyal Moses video.

      purge wastage…. i'm wondering….
why can't that be used to print infill/internal perimeters that won't be seen?

      • You can but there will still be wastage.

It's not always feasible to print multiples or have purge objects on the bed

        • but the infill or most interior perimeter(s) of what is being printed are not multiples of that/those object(s) and are not purge objects, thus not wastage.
If they were used to purge when changing filament, there would be no need for any "poop"

          • @AdModnar: It's still wastage at the end of the print, it's plastic going to landfill.
When a print is 150g and the wastage is 600g…. F that, I can't see any real use other than some special supports. Also keep in mind compatibility between filament types, enclosure and head temps.
Prusa XL does away with wastage but I've seen tests where it's not ideal because of compatibility issues I've mentioned.
AMS mostly seems to be about convenience of auto change and keeping filament dry.

            • +1

@reactor-au: changes in filament types are different from what I was mostly thinking of: colour change.
For colour change I can't see why the purge can't be inside the actual print - the infill etc (except if the change is from solid black to transparent)

              • @AdModnar: I guess if you have the motivation, you could do that yourself in the file?

              • @AdModnar: Some slicers can do this, pretty sure Bambu Studio is one of them. I've not done it but seen reviews and the tl;dr was it's cool but not as useful as you'd hope because even small changes in colour to the infill will show through the print in some form.

  • Just saw they are now offering free express shipping on the Centauri Carbon, Saturn 4 Ultra & Neptune 4 as well now, ive used their express postage before and got my order under an hour.
