  • If you previously had a service with this group and ported out recently (like a month ago) and wanted to port back into this deal, would you be eligible?

    • +1

      yes

      • -3

And the renewal price in 12 months is $200.
        Lets not forget that.
There will be even less alternative options then.

Maybe only Kogan Mobile if thats not the case already

    • +1

Yes, you can port out for a day and go back to this

      • port out and port back in recommended wait time is 30 days, i think.

        • +1

nah ive done it in 1 hour no issues

  • +8

    ✓ 28 days expiry

    🤔

    • side pannel says 365 days. Definitely more likely a 365d plan than 28 lol

    • 🤷‍♂️

    • 🤔🤷‍♂️🤷

    • +4

I think this refers to, you have 28 days to activate it when received.

I just activated mine today and it definitely is 365 day expiry to use on my account.

I read something in the letter saying something about it needs to be activated before 30 days or something.

    • I just receive my sim and it says make sure to activate your sim card within 24 months of purchase.

  • +6

not sure if anyone had the same experience, I've ordered one of the 365 days card, posted but its not arrived yet- been 2 weeks. I'm based in Melbourne east.

    • +1

Got mine in 3 busines days. I'm in Sydney inner west.

Shit thing is that there's no tracking number, it's mailed in a normal DL size envelope

      • +1

Wild its not tracked or anything. Ordered from Boost recently and my partner had to show their passport at the post office when they collected since they used that for ID when purchasing.

        • They can just cancel them if they go missing

      • are they pre activated?

        • +1

Nah, you have to go online and activate yourself.

    • I had the same thing. I had to ask for a replacement and that arrived quite quickly actually.

  • +2

280GB is only $169 too for anyone who wants some more data

    • Get 300GB with Kogan and esim and future deals for existing customers.

      • What type of future deals, and what's their network like? It seems like they share both tpg/vodafone and optus towers now?

        • +1

Not too sure as I have not read much of these lately. I guess they share the 4G ones if so. It's a good sign. 5G ones may be not because they paid a lot individually.

  • +1

It's $20 more for 80gbs more data if you need the extra

  • +1

I bought the last deal a month ago. I have a Catch Mobile account, and it allowed me to port in a number and use the Starter kit.

  • +2

If you want 5G and more data then Optus 365 300GB on special at Coles for $199 in person.

  • Telstra
    Optus
    Vodafone
    Which one is better?
TPG uses Vodafone+Optus, is it better?

    • -4

      Telstra network always.

      • +2

        Not always.

      • +5

Just not if you commute on the Cronulla line from Sydney every day, Telstra is congested and unusable for about half the trip. Everyone is different and different providers work better or worse depending where you live .

        • Interested to know if you're with a Telstra reseller and which one?
Have heard a lot of bad things about Telstra wholesale lately

      • +1

Optus way better where I am, with boost I couldn’t load a webpage in any surrounding suburb of my house.

        • +2

i have a Telstra and a Boost. the Telstra actual seems to work better than the Boost. perhaps there is some kind of limitation for Telstra resellers ?

          • @J-T: That’s what I think, that they have a spectrum prioritisation but you can never find proof it exists. When I was with Aldi it was even worse, couldn’t get data in my local Westfield with full signal.

            • +1

@Onemoredeal: for me, me having both Telstra actual and Boost side by side and testing it is proof. and both SIM's are in a same model phone so no debate there.

            • +1

@Onemoredeal: Yes, prioritisation is what they have enforced in their transmission networks from end to end. Higher pay customers packets get higher priority. If your data throughput is slow it's because your data packets not being transmitted with the top priority. The Telstra $99 plan at JB should gives you higher priority than any plan from Aldi/Boost mobile plans

              • +1

@THT: It makes sense and I don’t have an issue with it, if I was paying $100 a month instead of $200 a year, I’d want to be prioritised. They should be more transparent and have clear disclaimers on Aldi and co that in the event of a busy area you will be last on priority and may experience frequent loss of data access

    • +1

depends on your area. telstra and voda drop out for me so i tend to stick with optus mvnos.
other people swear by telstra/boost. trial and error unless you've got neighbours who've done all that and can advise you better.

      • Agreed. I’m on Boost after being with Amaysim for a few years and Boost sucks for me too much congestion. Was great when I went rural for a vacation though. Each to their own

      • This.

Need to check what/where your closest towers are. In my case it's Optus all the way as there is a tower on a hill just up the road. I get reception deep into the garage levels of my apartment block, tried Telstra once, nada.

    • +1

      Vodafone is horrible in Sydney

      • And in Perth.

        • I use Voda in perth no issues, through Felix. Any particular place in perth?

      • you can use this to check where are the nearest towers
        www.rfnsa.com.au

        • Aus Phone Towers app on Android mobile device is more convenient

    • TPG owns Vodafone , and did a deal with Optus to share spectrum and towers, I don’t think it’s a separate offering to Vodafone

  • +2

What happened to the Boost deals?

    • +4

Worst part of boost is that they have all these deals for "new customers" but rarely do they offer anything to existing long term customers ☹️

      • +1

Keep an eye out for Telstra deals. I've been alternating 12 month sims between the two for years. This way I'm always a "new customer".

      • yeah, I'm down to last 3gb of data, will port out to another provider and then come back if there are any good deals for new customers

    • They got too expensive after amassing a large customer base

    • +1

Go Aldi, wait for a catalogue in store $28 5G plan, includes 32gb and a 20gb signup bonus, so 52gb then data rollover +32gb for $28. Can always move when Boost has a deal. I'm tight on funds ATM and the cashback period is blown out for boost.

      • Is Aldi also in the Telstra network?

        • +2

          telstra wholesale network

      • Vodafone is always 5G as long as you got reception.

    • There are $240 boost sim cards you can price beat with at officeworks?

  • Dumb question but do you have to be a paying onepass member to sign up for this? Or is this kind of separate to that?

  • No Esim tho! :(

    • +1

i reckon for 365 plans in particular that can be ok, use your tray for 12 months on your main number and slut around with esims

  • I recently considered this but then cancelled and went with Vodafone instead which has 5G for not much more. It was $180 and I think I got 30% cashback. So it ends up being cheaper + you can get 5G.

    • +2

Do you mean combining Shopbacks current 30% cashback promo rate, with the Vodafone $250 Prepaid Plus Starter Pack down to $179, with 220GB data & 365 days?

      T&Cs states:

      You won't get Cashback on:

      • Prepaid 365 Plus plan

Are you sure this combo works? Or are you using another CB / SIM? Has your CB been tracked?

  • Do they support number share for apple watch? I know boost didnt

    • I'm pretty sure only Telstra, Optus and Vodafone support it. And even so, some watches don't support some carriers.

    • only the big 3 direct support numbershare, hopefully this changes soon

      • An update to this. "More Mobile" and "Tangerine" now offer number share for wearable devices on their prepaid plans. Hopefully more to follow.

        • Woah! this is new info.. Awesome

  • Got the 280GB plan for $169 recently which is working great so far

  • Anyone tried the aldi mobile 5g plan? Uses the telstra network. $125 for 150GB. The kicker is that its a family plan, so if you get one for wife/kid, and they don't use much data, you can share the data between you…

Sounds ideal on paper but I havent much experience with them.

    • +1

      That's a monthly plan though

    • You are comparing a monthly plan with a 365 day plan?

      • Apologies. I actually thought it was a 365 day plan!! My bad.

  • No esim and no deal for existing customers ever. A waste of time if you call/chat for a deal. Okay if you plan to churn after. I suggest go with Kogan for better deal.

    • But then you're stuck with shitty Vodafone coverage.

      • Both Optus and Telstra got 1-2 bars at my home, same as Vodafone (Kogan) I used 5 years ago. Maybe slighter better. The map shows fully covered but doesn't say the strength.

Other networks have to churn or pay extra to get more data. A bit of shame too.

  • +1

Any information on roaming services outside of australia? How much would it be and what services ?

  • As a predominantly Woolies shopper (in Tas, so no Aldi), hard to go past their 12mth deals, with 10% off each month, easily pays of the mobile cost. I'm still on their cheaper legacy plan ($170/yr iirc)

    • +1

We are with woolies. Their long expiry plans no longer have the ten per cent off when you recharge. You have to be in a 30 day plan now to get that.

  • I bought this and the entire process start to end was atrocious. I had to ask for a refund, their website looks like it's a test environment.

    • +1

their website looks like it's a test environment.

That's one IT worker burn there

    • Have you got your refund?

  • +2

Service on this is OK. it's 4G but speed is 150mb. Others use 5G but cap the speed at 100-150mb. So not a biggie.
Worst thing about this is their Mobile App. It sucks harder than a sucker fish. It's super clunky, need to login every time and keeps insisting you use face recognition but fails when you click it. After 100's of complaints in the app stores, and they do nothing.

  • So if you don't need this much data, what's the best deal now? Used to be able to get place for 80 bucks for those mostly near a WiFi connection.

Might check what the good guys have because I have a 30 bucks off a hundred from the other day

Edit:looks like good guys are pretty useless, only boost for 300 bucks as far as 365 day plans go

  • wtf is every man and his dog is now a mobile provider.
maybe in 10yrs Instead of joining a mobile plan you would just open your own mobile provider and sign yourself up.

    • This is renamed Catch Connect

I am currently with OnePass, how do I benefit from the offer?

  • To be honest I live in Sydney CBD Vodafone is terrible.

    • I've been with Vodafone for a year near Perth CBD, and I can't wait to move away. One month to go…

  • any plans if you wanted a 365 expiry but like 50gb data max or even less?

  • How does roaming work? Do they have free international calls?
