Ebike Recommendations - Mid Drive, Belt

Hi - looking for some ebike reccomendations. Will be general riding for leisure, but a bit of a hilly area.

Looking for a mid-motor mount, belt drive. I'm about 177cm. Budget is not massive - it won't be used all of the time, but I understand they're not cheap.

Unfortunately it seems like the Velectrix Brunswick is out of stock, it would have ticked pretty much all of the boxes… and at about $1500. Seems they're not getting it back in stock.

The Lekker GTS Amsterdam looks nice but a bit too pricey?

Keen for thoughts on ones I may have missed.

    Get a legal one.

    • They're all legal, on private property.

I guess you could ride it in circles around your washing line.

hook a line onto the hills hoist so it spins as you ride round it so the clothes dry quicker

      • Public roads and parks aren't private property.

  • Mid motor and belt drive dont sound like a combination that is 'budget'.

None. E-biker is killed as many of them.

      • Higher fatality per distance travelled by driver?

        • Car has less serious injury and death per km.
For a bike, the health benefits of cycling can easily outweigh that.
Motorcycles are far more dangerous, and no benefits. (aside from being fun)

      • If you’ve got a German car, it’s always in the shop anyway, hard to have an accident when it’s never on the road. @[Deactivated] (SYLTB). Unless you’re driving a Lexus of course, the most advanced German car ever made and actually reliable.

  • the only place I seen some bikes that may be in that range is 99 bikes I'm pretty sure.

    • I got 99 problems but a bike ain’t one

  • I was looking for a bike with similar specs as you, except I had a different problem to you.
One option similar to the Brunswick is the Cruiser Pulse STX. The frame is a bit nicer (step-through, so easier to mount and dismount). Unfortunately the price is quite a bit higher.

Its current price is roughly what is was this time last year and I instead purchased a Merida eSpresso 300 SE EQ which has a slightly bigger battery, a better motor, and better off-the-shelf components. Unfortunately it's not a belt drive.

If you do end up going for the Velectrix Cruiser Pulse, do be aware that three gears is really not a lot of gears…I'd personally recommend going into a store and trying them out. The Brunswick was pretty decent but the motor on the Merida eSpresso felt much more smoother and natural to ride.

Edit: Also, the Brunswick is no longer listed on Velectrix's website so I imagine they're no longer producing it.

    • Thanks for the only serious reply so far… genuinely appreciate it

If you haven't purchased yet, consider a few negatives with belt drive:
Higher Initial Cost: Belt drive e-bikes are generally more expensive due to the specialized components like carbon fiber belts and internal hub gears. The upfront cost can be a barrier for many buyers.
Limited Gear Range: Many belt-driven e-bikes are single-speed or use hub gears with fewer options (e.g., 5 gears at most or a CVT gearbox). This lacks the flexibility of a chain-driven bike with a wide range of gears (e.g., 21 gears), which can be a disadvantage on varied terrain.
Repair and Replacement Challenges: Belt drives require specific components that aren’t as widely available as chains. If a belt breaks, finding a replacement or a compatible shop for repairs can be difficult and costly.
Less Suitable for High Torque: Belts can slip under extreme torque or heavy loads, making them less ideal for powerful e-bikes or demanding riding conditions compared to chains.

    • Limited Gear Range: Many belt-driven e-bikes are single-speed or use hub gears with fewer options (e.g., 5 gears at most or a CVT gearbox).

Shimano geared hubs are 8 or 11 gears and pretty common on belt drive setups.

  • I really rate bafang mid drive motors. They are bulletproof. Easy to DIY Maintenace.

  • the problem with many Velectrix bikes is they use Nutt brakes. apparently they are very troublesome

  • Hijacking thread but if you're keen let me know:
Would anyone be interested in ordering the new Nireeka Spectrx?
It's a Carbon MTB ebike with a crazy 6000w of power… Currently at a steal on indigogo for about $5k delivered to Aussie (before it goes up to $8k)… problem is they only have the bundles left which come with 2x bikes and I only want 1x :( based in south east QLD for delivery

    Message me if keen: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/nireeka-spectrx-ultimate-…
