I love my RMs but you'd have to be brain-dead to buy a pair now

    • it's the stupid prices for the made in china clothes that kills it for me

    • why?

      • Significant drop in quality

Absolutely horrible for the price (700 normal and ~500-550ish on sale) and quality in the last few years has dropped off, partly because of the yearling leather they are known was already soft/thinner side and they started skimping out on everything over time. The leather has gotten so thin these days that it just doesn't hold up anymore outside of office settings to look nice where as older pairs could last for years if you maintained them well.

Much better options out there which are around the 500$ and sub 400 on sale.

        • whats' a good alternative? I heard twiggy bought RMs but didnt know it went overseas!

          • @nomster: Best alternative is to check deceased estate for old pairs. I know this old bloke who has a pair from 30 years ago!! It looks really dirty but no holes etc. He just gets the soles done once in a while.

          • @nomster: If you're bothered to spend a bit of time getting yourself measured up I suggest Allen Edmunds they have 50-60% off sales (~400-500aud) fairly often but they do go quick with a seconds outlet sale that stacks with sales every few months, seconds hover around the 300-400 mark unless something fancy or the park avenue.

Meermin/Thursday boots are a decent option around the 350-400$ mark. Can buy mutiple sizes from amazon to get the right size, return and then buy directly from them during a sale.

Mongrel boots around the 150 mark if you just want decent looking boots which have support/structure to them to abuse and throw out afterwards.

IMO anything around and above the 600 range you're better off looking at Made to order boots, plenty of places only where you basically schedule a video appointment, they walk you through how to measure your feet or they give you a form to fill out…etc. This is your adelante, grant, custom indo shoe makers…etc.
