Absolutely phenomenal game. I know I'm just one voice in a sea of millions of gamers but this game had me hooked from start to finish.
It's also one of those games where a completion of the main story/campaign only accounts for about 50% to 60% of the full game's content. There's heaps of other optional bosses and fights you can do with varying levels of importance to the storyline.
The core gameplay loop is extremely addictive and the voice actors and mocap get you invested in the story. Soundtrack was something I listened to religiously for the first few weeks after I finished it. Partner thought I was crazy but there are some crazy good bangers in there.
I finished this game maybe 2 months ago and I still think about it every now and then. Probably one of my favourite games ever.
For those who come after!
Absolutely, I tried this with Gamepass on pc, and decided to purchase it on ps5 after the first 5 minutes of prologue (*because I ran it on potato pc).
The music hits hard man.
GOTY material. 49$ is a good price for it.
I would say this hits 10/10 for almost (if not everything) aspects.
GOTY is almost underselling it. Easily game of the decade for me.
Have you tried KCD2? For me its a toss up between the two.
Nah i haven't tried it yet. I've got a few games in the back log but i'll try to get it to by the end of the year
I never played the original. Would I enjoy it as much in that case?
No need to play the original, the game provides enough background (I didn’t play the original..). You can always check out a quick YouTube video which might help.
I dislike turn based games, but I tried this and it was so amazing.
They somehow made turn based systems way more appealing to mainstream audience via parrying, dodging etc..
same happened with me when first trying baldurs gate 3, imagine making a game so good that people who normally are not a fan of the genre start looking forward to new games in the genre LOL. absolute goats.
You should check out the Super Mario RPGs, not a lot of people expect it but they are very fun turn-based games with timing mechanics like that
the parrying/dodging can be frustrating at times but overall the game is done so well. and to think it's a small boutique development studio!
Haha it was so frustrating for me too - my mate who was also playing at the same time had way more experience in souls-like games like Sekiro and Lies of P - kept saying it was a skill issue and he was right. Helped me improve because the game really forces you to lock in. There was no 'unfair' enemy, just a lack of skill from me.
Absolutely amazing and rewarding dopamine rush for beating some of those enemies I swear.
Agreed. I sux at parrying, and in this game if you miss one or two parrys against high-end enemies, you are dead.
God damn these comments are selling it. I'm not into JRPGs (I know its not Japanese) but I might give it a crack on Game Pass.
It's not a JRPG, it's a J'RPG.
Oh that's good!
FRPG
Top price for a top game, highly reccomend!
PARRY IT!
Time for swim wim
Wooooooooooooo Hoooooooooooooooo
Bow Wow Wow!
HARRIET!
En garde!
This game and apparently Kingdom Comes Deliverance 2 are the two contenders for GOTY.
You are not just playing a game, you are also playing a piece of art. It's design, graphics and music is just artisen.
Tomorrow comes.
inb4 Donkey Kong steals all the awards
Fingers crossed Clair Obscur still gets all the accolades it very truly deserves.
Phenomenal game!
First this game made me go WHEEEE and then it made me go wooooo
For those who come after!
Oui
Read the comments and put the order in lads
For those who come after !
Amazing soundtrack. I thought the music in Stellar Blade was OST of the year for me but this is probably slightly better. Both are spectacular.
DO IT GET IT
I'm going to be the detractor here, but I wasn't a fan of the story. It felt incredibly ham-fisted with every trope from the current trend of "dark and gritty" shonen anime thrown in. The target demographic is solidly teenagers.
The gameplay was good though. It does have "souls-like" gameplay mechanics that require fast reaction times, so if you don't like that sort of gameplay for whatever reason I'd recommend staying away too.
I can believe this is a fair analysis, didn't play the game but read a synopsis of the plot.
But when GTA V is considered a good story line, the bar is pretty low in my opinion.
I acknowledge it is subjective though.
One of the best gaming experiences of my life
TBH i have tried it, sunk around 10 hours so far and it's just not gripping me.
I have no idea why
Me too. I threw in the towel shortly after gaining the 4th team member in the paint brush head people village.
I couldn't get into the story and I found the gameplay battles tedious and more repetitive than anything I've ever played before. I'm a fan of JRPG so I knew what I was getting into, but this I just couldn't.
The music was great though and the visuals were beautiful.
About where i got to as well maybe a little bit further.
The first real turn based game i played was BG3 and that's one of the only games i've finished in the past 5 years, absolutely amazing.
Agree that the visuals & music are great here just i do not enjoy the game play at all.
There are dozens of us!
I found the story intriguing but I'm not sure the turn based mechanics are for me. Which is weird because I played some growing up and liked them but this one I felt like I was only playing to progress the story, not because I enjoyed the gameplay.
I finished the main story and some of the optional content but won't be going back to it.
I don't really see this as a turn-based game; it plays more like a stuttering action RPG. The combat strongly revolves around dodging and parrying, with no real need for build diversity - like you can, but the reward is heavily centered on you parrying every attack.
I didn't enjoy the story either - but I loved the voice acting, music, art and animations.
An advantage
I'm not a fan of turn based but the hype got me, I'll give it a go, picked up a xbox playAnywhere key.
Game is only 40GB, pretty compact for a game these days.
I hate turn based games, and I love this game. Definitely GOTY contender for me.
Well I was tossing up between this and Alan Wake 2, hopefully I enjoy it
Where did you get the play anywhere key? Similar price?
I got this one for Xbox, note its a marketplace seller but I paid with PayPal and got a key within 15 minutes.

Purchase this game immediately if you don't have it yet
This game makes you wonder why other games suck so badly. They just did everything right!
How to add to Steam guys?
The 'How to Redeem a Product on Steam' steps are listed under Activation on the page linked.
Got it. Thanks mate
Absolute cinema
Seems like it's one of those games I can hold off for even cheaper as it's single player right?
FYI, already have a massive backlog i.e. pile of shame.
Cries in console

Is this a reputable website? Anyone purchased before? Also, its showing up as 49 euros for me…
I bought from here on release
Yup - it looks pretty reputable, no issues at all with their steam keys.
Make sure your currency is set to AUD (at the top of the page) to get the deal price
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee whooooooooooooooooo~
Great game and peak soundtrack. I finished the game after 48hrs and could have put alot more hrs into it, however i was ready for it to end and just went straight to the final mission instead of exploring in act3. Definitely dont regret playing it but if i had my time over again i would have just got it on Game Pass.
Top 5 game of all time. Also available on gamepass.
This game is so freaking amazing, it got me excited to play games again.
Great game, and it's not normally the type of game I enjoy playing. Worth watching the skillup video on how the game was developed as well.

I stayed away from this as I didn’t like Baldurs Gate 3. Someone talk me into this?
It's nothing like BG3, gameplay-wise.
Think traditional turn-based JRPG with timed dodges, parries and skill-boosting reactions.
Very much a French take on the Japanese style, whereas Baldur's Gate is your western style.
Says $56.99 for me. Deals over?
Same
Man my cousin reckons this is the best game ever made. I was like I don't know bro powerstone 2 was pretty sick
Just finished the game after spending 75 hours on all the side quests. I was a bit disappointed by the final boss being so underwhelmingly weak compared to optional bosses
Happens when you save the final boss till last.
Did you feel the same way about Sephiroth after blitzing Emerald and Ruby WEAPONs?
You couldnt one shot Sephiroth using an ordinary attack unlike the final boss in this game (technically two shots)
Eneba has it for $50.70
Eneba usually has surcharges, so check foe the final price you pay. I use cdkeys mostly because its pretty much what you see is what you pay.

Sub-total A$53.65
Service fee A$11.21
💁♂️
Good point. I think CDkeys was $53
Any game with Andy freakin' Serkis in it is bound to be a banger. But in all seriousness, the voice acting in this one, and mocap was phenomenal. The broad premise of the story was "meh," and could get a bit convoluted at times. But the emotions and responses conveyed as the characters dealt with their circumstances is what really shines through.
