Hmm.. A grilled chicken burrito at GYG is $14 near me.

Doordash is 17.50, plus a $2.10 service fee (and free delivery - new user deal, normally 2.99).

Assuming 30% will only be off the item price, thats $5.25 - or $12.25 after discount.

Plus $2.10 service fee, and with free delivery its still $0.35 more expensive than just going to the restaraunt….

Yeah, honeymoon period is long finished with these delivery companies.

Cold food if they don't eat it on the way, all for a higher price. Yay.

      • +8

Any why is the food cold? Cause they hang around waiting for 3-5 orders using multiple apps at once . I watched a guy at my local Guzman wait for 30min for the 4th order he was delivering so all those people in the first few orders were getting cold food.

        • +1

A burrito fresh off the counter at my local is warm at best, there is no hot at Guzmans.

    • +1

If you have Amazon Prime, you can get DashPass which may bring the cost down.

    • +1

Buritos are easy to make - probably cost $5

      • +6

Will be so much better too if have even any level of competence with cooking

      • +1

        Any recipes?

    • +5

35c to get my food delivered so I don't have to drive 5-10 mins each way, + wait 5-10 minutes? You better believe I'm paying that

  • +17

Guzman y Gomez burritos are a complete scam.

Made up of about 90% rice and tortilla, with only 5% salad and 5% chicken.

    • +2

      That's a lie! There's no salad.

Literally in a GYG rn and I'm very disappointed. Most bland burrito I've ever had.

    • +3

Tbh, it's their grilled chicken that keeps me coming back for more everytime.

If I could make chicken like that, i'd be over the moon lol

    • +1

Its true used to work there. Now a days the new staff barely give 2 scoops any more and they are only taught to scoop one huge potion of rice. That would confirm ur percentages.

    • Mad mex all the way if there’s not an independent around. Sadly seq has been largely taken over by gyg in the burrito game

  • -3

terrible burritos but still not as filthy as zambrero

  • +3

Have the guzman burritos shrunk? I feel like they have or maybe I'm just greedy

    • Or you’re just getting bigger.

      • The scales would agree with you….. Bloomin scales

  • +2

    GYG near me is dirt.

  • +2

You've got a 1/10 chance of getting something decent from GYG. Stopped going after bad experiences then decided to give them another go.
Ended up in the waiting bay for over 50 minutes and drove back through to ask where my order was.
They handed me my order that was cold and been sitting on the bench for however long.
No apology or care. Just attitude.

    • +5

You waited 50 minutes in a waiting bay? That's on you tbh. I'd give em 20 tops and then go ask wtf is going on.

    • +1

You must have tons of patience to wait that long.

    • +1

Ended up in the waiting bay for over 50 minutes

      I lol'ed.

  • +1

I tried that and got hungry so I never went back and thought Coles wraps for 4:50, or the 2:29 wraps in the pantry area, and some random ass 1$ discounted lettuce, some pork mince, and can tomatos and red kidney beans and dang a meal.

Less $10 bucks, throw in a ice coffee and dang you got a bargain, the ice coffee from the other thread using the sock method you can look up to make ice coffee.

    • +2

Now you take this home, throw it in a pot, add some broth, a potato. Baby, you've got a stew going

  • +1

    Mad Mex is better

    • The big burrito is the only thing on the menu to satisfy me

  • +7

Given the fees associated with these delivery companies, 30% off is just absolutely not worth it.

    • +1

That seems harsh… Wouldn't that argument also work against delivery companies altogether? Are you planning to downvote similar delivery company deals?

Many people would rather pay a surcharge for delivery - otherwise these companies won't exist. If you're not one of those people, you could consider unsubscribing.

I got free Dashpass through Prime, which I also got free the Ozb way :)

      • +1

Other delivery companies don't jack up the price of the goods and service fees on top of delivery fees. A discount that only reduces one of the associated costs yet still leaves it more expensive isn't much of a bargain. Or at least, it's worth calling out that you can get it cheaper in store any and every day - certainly other deals would ordinarily post ways of getting it cheaper.

If Optus were selling the Pixalaxy 12 for $500 in store every day and Amazon had a special where it was "only" $550 with delivery for a limited time, you'd bet people would want to know they could get it in store for less.

        • +1

Just to clarify the context, I mean app-based restaurant meal delivery companies like DoorDash, UberEats, Menulog etc. I expect they work quite differently from other delivery companies like AusPost, Amazon and whomever Optus uses, as the latter companies would be a lot less labour-intensive.

Other delivery companies don't jack up the price of the goods and service fees on top of delivery fees.

I don't believe that is correct for restaurant meal delivery companies like DoorDash. My understanding is that they all charge a certain fee (30%?) to the restaurant for each delivery. The restaurant then decides how much of that fee is passed on to the customers via the list price on that app.

  • +2

Given how much rice and beans involved it’s absolutely not a bargain.

  • I don't think this is a deal with the fees associated with Doordash.

Also, GYG has gone downhill. Have multiple orders where the meal looked like it was missing the meat (almost), the guac which I paid for! But they never forget the rice and the beans - tons of them.

One night, they gave me someone else's order lol. All vegetarian. Was worth $70 and my order was worth $40. Had a veggie meal that night :D

  • looks like the 30% discount is only for 1. I tried to order 2 burrito, did not try ordering 1 burrito and 1 cali, and the discount is still $5.25 (which is for 1).

  • These guys have gone to the dogs, don’t even bother. Can’t fathom how they are expanding so rapidly when they couldn’t care less about their customer’s experience.

  • +3

It ends up being $12.25 for pickup, which is slightly better than the $14 it costs to order pickup through the app.

  • Unfortunately, if you buy a GnG burrito you never know what you'll get. Bowls are the main culprit.

One of the most important rules of successful takeaway food is standardisation - the food will be the same from outlet to outlet, whether Penrith or Perth, Croydon or Coffs Harbour, that burrito should be the same, when you order you know what you're going to get.

Quality, Size, Taste, Freshness etc - standardised.

    • GnG?

      • The y is and in Spanish so guzman and gomez which they have likely shortened to GnG
