can get baby bunting to beat it by 5%
What's does EA mean
Easy Adjust (headrest).
Oh okay. Thanks
They're price matching big dub.
So that they don't have to price beat.
"… if you find a competitor’s lower price on an identical stocked item (including delivery) we’ll beat it by 5%."
This costs more than other car seats like the Joie Armor at regular price, which we got for just $279 during sales.
No Isofix but still had a nice steel frame and the various padding around it. What's the big difference?
material I guess?
Graphene is a compact seat (Joie Armour isn't) - will impact the front seat less, which may be important in smaller cars / cars with less room in the second row.
Graphene also good for those that need 3 across (pretty sure the Joie won't work for 3 across).
Three across is why we got them.
Toyota Tarago if anyone is wondering.
3 across in the 3rd row? Just wondering if this will work in the 7 seater model? Cheers.
@truetypezk: Nah we have 3 across in the 2nd row.
Not sure you’d be able to anchor three seats in the 3rd row. Would need to check if there’s suitable anchor hardware for that row. It’d also seem to me to be impractical to try and get to the kids to buckle them in from that row.
Our model is 7 seats. (2-3-2 config)
This guy/gal car seats
Safer,
Easier to use,
More Compact.
and Britax is a reputable brand.
Material is better quality, so stays cleaner for longer, doesn’t lose its structure.
Wonder whether it has Graphene coating so that food and drinks don't stick to this seat….
I can confirm that food and drinks (as well as other solids and liquids) do stick to the seat. But it did clean up well
Good idea. Got some quality motorcycle helmet and used mattress for a steal as well!
The problem is you can't trust the history of it. Like Hansi said, same issue with helmets and mattresses.
Car seats are great to sell/give between friends though, when you trust you're getting an accurate history.
Yeah in most cases it would probably be fine. Car seats are safety related though, so probably something people are less ready to buy 2nd hand for than other stuff like clothes, toys etc. You just don't know how people have used and/or looked after their property (or not), and for clothes/toys etc thats probably no worry, but for something solely concerned with safety, can understand people wanting new.
Yes second hand is good for a spare seat for grandparents or a second car. However most of them would have been used for 4 or 8 years already (2 kids) so it would be very close to the 10 year replacement recommendation. So it works for some situations and not others
Don't want to go making sense with car seats!
Some brilliant marketing by car seat manufacturers. The De beers of seats.
Reality..they are blow mould plastic and belts. Grab one from hard rubbish and try and break it. Grab the belts and try and break one…go for your life…goodluck!
If the plastic or frame isn't cracked, it's fine.
If the belts aren't torn and frayed ..it's fine
Not much to them..have a look.
But whenever we talk about kid seats we all put on our tinfoil paranoid hats.. yet no one can actually describe what the issue is..
"What if it's been in an accident?"
Same as any other seat in a car. If it isn't broken, it's fine. But for some reason we don't discard all the other seats in the car when someone run up the back.
As someone else said, the 10yr rule generally applies as you would expect a new safety feature in a 10 yr cycle.
We paid for one new seat once. Never paid for another since. The used seats have been excellent.
You do you..but for those who might be less financial, dont feel ashamed etc using a used seat. They are fine. Just engage the grey matter and give them a good look over.
Yes they are plastic engineered to be safe. They are not all the same. Your logic is as sound as saying all cars are the same as they have 4 wheels and an engine and ANCAP ratings don't matter
Just check https://www.childcarseats.com.au/
Your point is a good one.
Just because you are buying a new seat, doesn't mean it's good. There are some absolute stinkers still sold today. Some seats have ridiculous head/ chin guards …and your kids will hate it …and want to go forward facing immediately (negating all the benefits of being rear facing for as long as they can.).
Side fact - I always find it amusing that normal passenger rear seats aren't all rear facing. Anyway..
The ancap rating does matter…but that ancap rating doesnt change when you buy the car used.
The Graphene is a good seat (for the seats offered here). Got ours for $0 and happy enough with it.
If I had a choice I would go with a Volvo rigid isofix seat. They have great lateral impact protection…where ALL our seats suck (as our gov are all about straps).
A good test I like to use is… Grab the side of the seat you are interested in (when they aren't in it) and shove / pull it as hard as you can (simulate a t-bone accident).
Watch how much the seat sways (and imagine your childs head in that seat). Cars have different rear seat angles/ surfaces. Try it before you buy it. Judge the seat itself, not how much it costs.
Best seat would be the Volvo rigid isofiix. We are not allowed to use the Volvo rigid isofix here (I hope that changes) Our gov are all about the 'safety tether strap' (Crap)… But hey, what would Volvo know about safety right?
I have sold car seats in market place. I deliberately under priced them. The buyer who turned up looked like they could use the help so I gave em for free. Sometimes getting it on marketplace is the difference between having a seat or none….
Good seat although i'm still not sure if the materials are worth the extra cost over the safe n sound quickfix. We've got both, paid $220 for the quickfix and they are nearly identical.
It's also a shame that they've removed the pocket on the side of the seat too, the outgoing model had a little mesh pocket.
Great seat. Took on board Qantas flight from Melbourne to LA for our 2-3yo. Made the flight much easier for her and us. Bought a cheap fold up hand trolley and used elastic straps to make a makeshift pram to wheel it through the airport and onto the plane. Could fit on the A380 down the isle but fking 737 dreamliner was too narrow and I had to lift it from the front to the back of the plane whilst also carrying luggage.
How is it better than a airplane seat?
You're allowed to bring certain child seats on board and use them in a window seat, just like on a car's back seat. So it fits the child better and more securely than an adult-sized plane seat.
Bonus - if youre travelling with a child under 2 without a booked seat for them, they are usually obliged to (or will actively try to) give you any spare seat available to use for the kids car seat.
It's safer as the child is secure and unlikely to come out of the seat in the event of turbulence or unexpected barrel rolls.
Plus kids generally sleep better in environments they are used to. Almost all kids seem to love falling asleep in their car seats.
Lastly, we needed a car seat in California anyway and saves renting a grotty hire car one which may or may not be safe
this has never occurred to me..do you get infant carry on? can you take a pram as well as a seat?
Got the Brava version a few years ago (I believe the Graphene is a step up from this) - can't fault it. Compared to some cheaper ones I've seen/tested the Britax range feels like they're better built and designed.
Anyone else destroy the belt tightener strap by continuously getting it caught on something? Have to replace my entire seat soon because of it :(
yes.. it always gets tangled, won't get another one because of this
Santa Fe couldn't comfortably accommodate 3 cheaper car seats across, got ripped $600+ x3 seats lol. Great deal.
Can someone recommend a Britax seat for 2-8 years old that will allow another two adults to sit in the back row as well?
Britax Maxi Guard Pro.
If you arent wedded to Britax, the Mother's Choice Pulse/Focus (same seat, different names) will be a lot cheaper, and people seem to be happy with them.
If still rear facing, and want Extended Rear Facing, then Mother's Choice Infinity/Ascend is the most compact 0-8, I believe. Otherwise the Securesafe Guard (I think it might be re-released under a new name).
How does this compare to the maxi cosi pria lx? Also thoughts on these compact ones vs full size.
I have the Pria LX G-Cell non-iso due to the small size (it fits like a pearl behind the passenger seat of a Jazz), recline (both for the child and for ease of access when attending by parents) and not having to adjust the top tether https://www.maxi-cosi.com.au/smart-guide which drives friends who has a Britax (not sure which) and do not like performing this action every time take the child in and out.
Baby Buntings had on sale for $400-420 at the time as they were replacing all stock with the newer ISO-FIX version.
Lots of comments on Reddit with the first comparing to the Britax: https://www.reddit.com/r/BabyBumpsandBeyondAu/search/?q=pria
I think it depends on your vehicle and where possible I would suggest having a store demo different models to your car so you can get a feel for distance to front seats (if not using centre seat), how accessible it is in conjunction with your rear door aperture and overall ergonomics. The Pria bottom cushion pad cover is slippy, not tied to the seat cushion and sometimes falls off when adjusting the strap and I have to put it back on.
Smart guide is an absolute game changer. Has saved me countless minutes putting on/ adjusting the tether strap.
It's rarely on sale though nowadays. I got the non gcell version at bubs n grubs who do pretty regular sales
Without knowing how this britax tether works, the pria's smart guide makes things extremely easy not having to muck around with a tether all the time.
Appears too good to be true, would love a click and collect/cash on pickup options for a deal like that!
Right!?!

I bought from big W with discounted gift cards
@mnypwrwmn: Wow, didn't know gemni could do this! Nice!
Where do you get discounted gift cards from please?
I'll need a seat for a new born in 5 months. Should I wait for Black Friday November? Or. Buy now? I have a credit card with price protection but it has to be from the same retailer that the price drops at.
I remember using a code to get this cheaper a few years ago on their ebay store. I can't find it any more.
This is a forum post about it, so I'm not dreaming.
TCB's doing 5% on Baby Bunting online purchases atm, so potentially 379.05
Can anybody with this seat please advise about the SICT? This instruction video was on a QR code on this Graphene seat (though clearly specific to a different model), but I assumed SICT would work/look the same on all models. But on our graphene I can’t see anything like what’s shown here: https://youtu.be/nqic0OJYxoc?t=132
I am pretty sure mine doesn't have that screw out SICT bit
Seems weird that one model’s SICT has to be twisted out into an activated state, and the other model’s SICT seems to be some hidden feature integral to the seat, marked only by the words “SICT” on the seat cover
SICT is just a Britax marketing term for whatever they have put into a seat to absorb side impacts. It differs between seats, its not a singular thing / "technology".
I believe they call the screw in one on the B-Compaq "advanced SICT".
No idea why that QR code was linked on a Graphene.
Thanks op needed an extra
Big W also have this for the same price:
