Easy to Clean is a Lie ! Otherwise Amazing Air circulator

    • +1

Mine are easy to clean. Maybe you're doing it wrong?

      • +1

Depends on if you are trying to remove a massive hairball from the fan shaft or if you are just wiping dust off the blades

        • +33

I think this is the OzBargain community's favourite way to remove hair from the shaft.

    • +1

Mine only has 3 screws and then you can brush and wipe the whole fan/unit. What aspect of cleaning it do you struggle with?

  • +1

FYI whenever a fan says "3 speed settings" it's likely not DC and hence doesn't have the stronger power together with the quieter mode. This is by youtubers testing that DC models are quieter and more effective at moving air.

    • If the blades spin at the same speed between AC and DC models, how is one more "effective" than the other?

      • +3

DC fans consume up to 70% less electricity than AC fans. And efficiency is defined as output useful work over total input.

        • +10

          Efficient, yes. Effective, no.

"Effective" and "efficient" are very different things that share the first three letters.

          /pedant.

  • Just in time for winter

    • +1

Halfway through winter, it only gets warmer from here. All the best winter clothing and winter deals are coming for end of season sales.

  • What is the difference between the 2 models? Just the colour?

    • +6

The 533 is the "AC" version of the wildly popular DC 633 one. Essentially 533 would have quieter operation and better vortex. Get the 533. It's pretty good even if it's not DC. The DC is anywhere from 2-4x the price depending on whether it's on sale or at its peak pricing.

      • +1

I thought most advice on fans is to go for DC models. I’ve found DC fans far superior.

        • Yes my comment mentions that. Also mentions the DC version is 2-4x the price.

        • DC fans superior to what?

          • +24

            @gomazz: Marvel fans.

          • @gomazz: In addition to this, I believe the DC models can also be triggered by smart devices. My AC model requires button start.

I paid $160 for the DC 633 on Prime Day. Is it worth $70 more than the 533, or should I order this and return that?

Edit: it seems to be 56w vs 40w, saving of 384Wh/day, 2.7kWh/week, 140kWh/year (or $35/year at 25c/kWh).. So I'd need to run it for 2 years straight to breakeven on the price difference.

I assume there wouldn't be a noticeable difference in air movement or noise (except the ability to finetune the speed of the DC one)

        • Keep the DC one. Fine tuning is a huge plus.

        • The 533 (and the 533DC) are their "small" model, and I would avoid it over the 6xx models on that factor alone (larger lets you use lower speeds for the same airflow

        • -1

it seems to be 56w vs 40w

what only 16W more efficient for same DC model??

I thought DC fans were meant to be up to 70% more efficient. so should it be more like 56W vs 28W at least??

wait comment above says 533DC is the smaller model. when I read a comment that 533DC was the same size version of 633AC.

so 533DC smaller, and consumes 16W less. so DC version would probably consume 56W just like the same size AC model.. 🤔

ok I'm confused. so there are DC and AC versions with the same model number?? ok. I thought they would have different model numbers e.g. 533 for DC and 633 for AC (same size).

How much do ozbargainers love a vornado

    • +1

I hate them. Extremely overpriced, and very very noisy when you turn them up towards max setting.

      And they don't rotate.

"That's because it's an air circulator, not a fan!"…. Give me a break. It's the Voss water of the fan world.

      • +1

Spot on, but fanboys never like to hear the truth. Hence down voted.
        No remote either.
        So hard to clean

      • +1

It's the Voss water of the fan world.

Hey easy there Hoss. The Voss is great and oh so refreshing and most of all, the reusability is endless.

      • I'd suspected as much, afterall how expensive can fan components be.

Have you got a reccomendation for an alternative? Looking to circulate air con down a hallway.

        • +1

Have you got a reccomendation for an alternative?

I doubt it. They were just complaining because to them it's too much to spend on a fan when a Kmart/Target fan "does the same job".

    • Bought one recently and I love mine. I love the slight breeze it provides the entire room even when it's not pointed at you. I'm sure there are alternatives out there (I hear DREO is a good competitor but not available here) but I prefer to just stick to the trusted brands.

  • For 70$ buy woozoo from costco

    • is it better than vornado?

      • on par if not better, and the $70 Woozoo is for a room not a desktop one.

  • Anyone run one 24/7 for extended periods like 12 months or more? If so how well do they last?

    • @LowRange , I have only used these in Summer . They used to come with 5 year motor warranty . Last one I had x2 of them both lasted me more then 5 years , Easy ! But they are Hard to Clean Fan all the Dust lands in the Propeller.

  • +1

I want one of these for washing, maybe circulating A/C. Hard to justify the price though.

    • +2

      Dehumidifier would be better

      • Have one, its fan isn't powerful

      • I have both. Dehumidifiers by themselves are not terribly effective, a dehumidifier + any sort of semi decent fan is very effective.

  • I have an open plan lounge with a huge ceiling and reverse duct air conditioning. The heat from the air con just sits at the top and the fact we have no ceiling fans means the hot air doesn’t get pushed down.

Would you recommend this fan to do the job? And would the AC or DC version be better?

    • Also wondering this, don't really want to fork out for a ceiling fan as due to our ceiling and electrical set up I can't see it being a cheap exercise.
