Actually 4k (good chinese brand) laser projector is affordable now.

      • +2

But a good projector screen for laser is expensive

        • Not 16k expensive. You can get a wicked theatre setup for 20k

        • Nice electric 150in screen for less than $1k. Thanks to China brands

          • +2

@Klang: Still sh*tty contrast, especially for dark scenes, hopeless with any ambient light! After 2 projectors (LG LED FHD, BenQ Bulb 4K), never again!

            • -1

@bobz79: Check out those Chinese brand 4k laser projectors like JMGo, XGIMI, and Vidda. They are like the BYDs of projectors

              • +1

@Klang: The BenQ TK800 I am using is a 4K HDR with high brightness (3000 lm), still not good enough for dark scenes. Bright scenes are awesome. I chose bulb since the LED/Laser ones are not replaceable. My LG LED started losing brightness and color around 3000 hrs though it promised 20000 hrs!

Most Chinese projects are just good on paper, fake specs especially lumens and contrast ratio.

I have tried the highend HiSense triple laser one, still not good enough compared to even a basic LED TV! For almost all projectors I tried blacks were more of a dark grey, while there was little detail in the shadows! Trying watching something like House of the Dragon series on a projector vs tv, you will understand what I am talking about!

                • @bobz79: TK800 is almost 7 years old and only 1200 ANSI lumen so won’t be bright enough for daytime viewing. Do check out the newer Chinese Laser models like JMGo N1S pro or ultimate, N3 pro.

hopeless with any ambient light! After 2 projectors (LG LED FHD, BenQ Bulb 4K), never again!

Laser or LED projectors still couldn't compare with mini LED TV.

              • @superforever: There is a trade-off between aesthetic, price, screen size, and room size.

                • +1

@Klang: to be frank, biggest tradeoff is quantity vs quality. 150" projected (inferior) vs 98" tv (stunning).. at comparable price :-)

          • +1

@Klang: "Nice electric 150in screen for less than $1k. Thanks to China brands"

Not for a proper UST screen.

          • +1

@Klang: Please share more, I’ll love to buy one

  • +4

Wish one digit less on the price….

  • -4

Just grab 2 x 65in and put together to save $13k?

    • +14

      Is that how it works? I would've thought it's 4x 65in

      • +5

        That would technically be 130".
But yes you are correct should be 4 x unless you are trying to make some weird 32:9 aspect ratio screen.

      • +1

        Yep my mistake

  • +13

    Bought 10, thanks

    • -8

      Unlikely

      • Haha

      • What makes you say that?

    • Imagine a Sim setup with 3 of these?

  • What would the pixel density look like at this size?

  • +6

There'd be significant unexpected bonuses buying this model….
You'd save the cost of one wall, which this would replace. Even though these tvs are very energy efficient, it would still have a significant warming effect in a closed room.
Though having checked it out, I see this critter only uses about 300W, which if fantastic.
I reckon that old 25" CRT monster someone gave me in the mid 1990s would have used a lot more than that.

But alas…. this deal is not for me. The 85" TCL I use for a monitor started giving me headaches, I had to move it about 1 metre further away…. all good now.

  • +5

Well they do have to invent new ways to part people from their money

    • The old ways already have all of mine. New ways are on the wish list.

  • 288hz is pretty wild. Is that 1080p 288hz and 4k 144hz?

    • I bought a C7K in the 55-inch model, and It's supposed to do 288hz at 1440P, My PlayStation won't go that high lol, I think VRR is limited to 120hz as I have not seen higher than that yet but you can turn VRR of.

      • You would get many PS5 games that run at 288fps

  • +2

Thanks op! Bought one for the our future bedroom but used up the deposit for the house. But buy first and figure it out later right?

    • Sounds like a kid I bought a snowboard off once. He went snowboarding once, loved it, spent a couple of grand on getting all his own gear so couldn't afford to get to the snow to use it.

  • My living room can not catch up with the size of tv.

  • +1

Hard to get TV shelves for this size TV. Likely need to spend more $$$ to get a custom shelf

  • +5

You gotta take your hats off to the Chinese….overtaking in most consumer technology fields now.

  • +1

Will wait till the price drops to <$3000 😂

    • Unlikely… 6-7k is my bet

  • -6

    4K @ 115"? Yikes

    • +3

Cinemas screens are 4K. What content is there above 4K anyway?

      • +1

You're going to draw comparisons between a Cinema, where the projector never looked great to begin with, with your living room and the distance you sit from the TV?

    • +1

4K to 8K diff is very little for human eyes, hence 8k struggling to take off since last 13 yrs!

      • -2

It has nothing to do with 4K vs 8K to human eyes and everything to do with Pixels Per Inch.

  • +1

How do you mount this to the wall? Or you dont?

    • Pity the ones having to hold it up while the missus decides exactly where it's going on the wall……."left a bit, left a bit more, up 50mm"

    • +5

Wrong question. More worthwhile to ask: how do you mount the wall to this TV?

      • +4

3M command strips. About 1000 needed

        • I have found that just a little blutack at each corner works fine.

    • +7

      This is the wall

  • +2

Damn, that is huge! People must be making way more money these days, lol. I had a projector and a 100" screen in the mid 2000's. It cost me about a months wages, and I was questioning my life choices after buying it even back then:)

    • +2

42" plasmas were ~30k on release, and that was in late 90's money.

      • Ah, I forgot about those. I guy I know paid about 15K for a 50 or 60 inch plasma back in the day. I remember thinking he was insane for doing that, lol.

        • If he got a kuro its prob still got better PQ than this thing…

  • +1

Hmm. Need to find another spare 16k liquid to upgrade from my 98” . Would love to go bigger sooner.

    • +1

Relocate the 98" to the bedroom

      • that's 86" more than is usually needed in that room

        • +1

Surely the joke should have been 96"

  • TCL 115" …………………………

    Say no more

    • TCL is no: 1 in TV sales now, and their high end models are comparable to Sony/Samsung etc. WDYM?
      https://www.tcl.com/global/en/news/tcl-achieves-triple-top-1…

      • It will be just a matter of time for TCL and Hisense to catch up and beat Sony/Samsung/LG flagship models… maybe another 2-3 years …

        • TCL is doing quite well in reviews, not a big fan of HiSense. Most of the HiSense appliances fail within a month warranty expires, multiple cases from friends!

  • +1

The $40 del is a deal breaker for no deal.

  • Does the average home have a room big enough that has the lounge far enough away for this size TV to be practical for the 9.1/9.x cinema experience?

The flat I am in would max out at 65 or 75", but my 49" UHD dumb TV is still going strong with a media player.

    • +1

Perfect size for a big living or home theater, projector replacement. Currently I am projecting at 150"

    • +1

My 98 inch is too small. Doesn’t fill my lounge room wall yet. A projector won’t serve that room due to windows.

      • I hope by next year this comes sub 10K, will wait until then ;-)

  • +2

Thanks OP I bought 6 and made a mini fort out of them.

  • +1

Bought 10, going to resell for profit, thanks

    3000 nits peak brightness

    On a TV? Geez that's bright… That's a flood light
