Long time ozbargain member here, been lurking for a while - life got busy with kids.
Have benefited a lot from being part of this community, feel like I can give a little back.

This is an app that helps students with creative writing, persuasive essays and informational documents.
Helping students with writing has always been hard and time consuming, or only really within the domain of expensive private tutoring.

This app gives instant help to students, and provides students with encouraging feedback on ways they can improve their writing. It was loosely based on NAPLAN, but we have extended and aligned it with various other education curriculums and assessments.
It is suited for primary to senior students and anyone studying for English proficiency tests.

  A quick glance at the site - I don’t see A.I. mentioned anywhere. I see fancy words like “cutting-edge learning technology” and “custom-tuned systems”.

  How much is this software just A.I. masquerading as anything but?

    yes there's lots of front ends for AI these days. Honestly it wouldn't be hard to write a prompt for this, point it at edu/naplan/creative writing sites, feed in some.past exams and also marking guides to do most of the work.

    Op, you should be pushing the Free Trial. although I can't find any info on the website about what it gives you and for how long. That might help. Kudos for not having to give payment details for the trial.

    Thanks for your feedback. You are correct, while we don't use the term "AI", core components are using AI.

    The first version I built was using an AI prompt into a well known AI chatbot - easy to build. But we quickly switched models due to data privacy concerns.

    We use a different large language model (LLM), but have supplemented with text pre and post-processing rules to refine the feedback results.
    Image-to-text conversion is powered by an API service that combines optical character recognition (OCR) with AI, depending on the input image.
    File-to-text parsing just parses different file formats without the use of AI.
    Language translation is handled through a translation API service, they use AI (Neural Machine Translation NMT)

    Hope it doesn't come across as just another AI overlay as its a little more than just a prompt front-end.
    But in any case, if students benefit we are ok with that

  A few questions:
  1. Do you use my User Content data to train LLM, and how do you prevent my User Data from leaking through LLM?
  2. How do you secure my personal information? You only have a generic statement on your website.
  3. Where is my data stored? Does it remain in Australia?

    There is a section on how we use the data we collect - Its only for the provision of our services.
    From your questions it looks like we should explicitly state that we do not use data to train LLMs.

    The only personal information we have is your email, name and age. We did have facebook login, but it was removed as it gave us more information, but came with additional overheads.

    All financial data is handled by our payment provider - we don't handle anything that requires PCI-DSS compliance.

    The product is being marketed across Australia, NZ, UK and US. We host the data across multiple international regions to provide a fast service. Data sovereignty wasn't taken into consideration for the public app.

    For the school edition we have options to host data in different regional areas. eg we are looking to make this available to Government and private schools in Australia, procurement requirements have items related to data security and sovereignty. This information is provided to customers of the school plan.

    Target is school students. It was tested and developed with students from age 5 to 18. But we also used it with non native speakers and it worked well.
