      Blooming Waters Prismatics
      Prismatic Surprise Boxes
      Prismatic Booster Bundles

Also all dropped on JBHIFI today 😅

      • +1

        And was gone in minutes.

        • -2

Heaps of people purchased from the group

          • +1

@TOM A: Booo the resellers. BOOOO!

          • @TOM A: Can I join this great group?
Just wanted some blooming waters. I mastered the set however with this new product need these promos. Ironic just over 1 year ago could of bought pokemon cards anywhere 30-50% off rrp..

            • +1

              @cumova: It's a paid group. Costs $12 a month.
Basically all these "stock alert" groups do.

They're basically full of resellers, so don't expect to be able to just check in after work and have plenty of stuff in stock. Especially if you're a collector.
You can even see on their IG, these dudes don't give a flying damn about the hobby, just about scalping the living hell out of it.

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: I've seen people selling click and collect orders in different states.

                • @shap08: Anything for an extra buck.

            • @cumova: you pay a fee

            • +1

@cumova: All these groups are discord bots that are coded to create 'stock alerts' for x product, on x website - then they charge a fee to each user that joins the discord server.

I actually made a bot myself on discord with the help of my prior coding experience and a bit of GPT. It was relatively easy.

            • +2

@cumova: There are free public discord groups which use the exact same web scraping bots as these stupid paid ones and have 10x better communities who aren't just there to scalp all the product and resell it.

            • @cumova: FYI Blooming Waters wont have anything new if you've got a master set - theyre just reverse holos.

        • +1

Sadly the deal is nothing more than promotional spam for their discord. Same tactic across all platforms, show 1 deal with a lot of stock (the deal is over 12 hours old and JB still have stock among other places) and brag about the stock you missed because you weren't a member. You even have the brand new accounts who signed up the same time as this deal, informing you of the people who did in fact get the "gone in minutes" items because they were part of said discord.

Like others have stated, it's nothing more than bots which can be setup by anyone.

For people with fomo, the reprints have only just begun and it will slowly build. If you can wait you will be able to get pretty much everything at retail and not have to join any paid membership groups for the luxury.

          • @4892: Yeah i doubt members bought prismatic and bloom, they were up for less than 1 minute.

Kmart Marrickville has this available most of the time. $8.5 each.

    • -1

      They are single packs.

      • +5

Obviously, cause $8.5 each not even close to $50.

        6 pieces for $51

    • They're always empty of pokemon tcg when i check in marrickville metro. are you having luck at certain times of the day?

      • Always dropping by there every Saturday after my little boy Karate and managing to buy 2-3 packs. And can assure several packs are always in there. I have no idea what are these, my boy just want to open something.

  • How many cards in total do you get ?

    • 6 Booster Packs with 10 Cards each = 60 Cards.

  • So kid loves pokemon and wants to play pokemon card game. What do I need to get him started? I assume this is just an addon/collectors item?

    • -2

I don't know. How to you get anyone addicted to meth? Give them some and they'll keep at it.

But seriously, card collecting is basically a rort. Unless it's going to cause social distress try to avoid it or make sure it's not their primary thing, get them out of the house etc. You're going to be in deep quickly if actually playing competitively because you'll need a reasonable deck of cards. The other kids will already have this… You'll be forever behind.

      • Haha yeah I noticed some craziness. Honestly I'm just looking for the play at home with family kinda set and hopefully avoid the addiction :)

        • +1

You'll want a starter deck :) Good news is the dumb resellers only care about booster packs so if you actually want to casually play the game, these decks are always in stock

          https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/pokemon-tcg-battle-academ…

        • Depending how old your little one is, I got ‘My First Battle when my boy was almost 7 and it went down a treat. Cheap, learn the game, and then level up to a ‘level 2’ set. Good YouTube wraps of the starter decks if you search - then just buy boosters casually as you see them. My son just enjoys whatever he gets - hasn’t twigged on whole sets.

      • +1

That's not necessarily true. It depends on how you go about it.

Pokemon tcg is actually not too bad for players of the game because they release cards in multiple rarities, meaning you have access to the non-foil versions of a card to fill the slots of your deck easily, but there are also the alternate arts and omegaholo whateverthehell rarities for the collectors, chasers and bling enthusiasts.

The problem with the hobby atm is all these scalpers, resellers and "finance bros" have seen the value on rare and graded cards, and have infiltrated the scene, buying out stock from regular players and proliferating this "value" and "investing" mindset with the cards, turning them into essentially another stock market.

If you just want to play amongst yourselves, I would start with one of the 2 player starter kits (they come with basic decks designed to play against eachother) and maybe an Elite Trainer Box, which has a few packs and a bunch of energy cards to upgrade the decks and kickstart the collection for future deckbuilding.

After that, if you wanted to get into it a bit more, I would look online to see what decks are being played around certain pokemon/strategies you like, and buy singles either online or at your Local Game Store. Most LGS are very welcoming and can point you in the right direction if you're new and wanting to learn. Buying singles will always be cheaper in the long run than gambling through packs (but if that's what you're into it can be fun too, just understand that it is gambling and you will likely not "hit").

I don't personally play pokemon, though i know people who do and they have built competitive decks for 100 bucks or less (pretty good in the grand scheme of things. Yugioh is way more expensive, and Magic definitely CAN be depending on how powerful you're aiming for)

        • I stand corrected. Good info :)

    • If he wants to play the actual game then a good starting place is an ETB, or Elite Trainer Box.

      (Ripped from an Amazon description:)

The Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Paradox Rift Elite Trainer Box includes 9 Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Paradox Rift booster packs, 1 full-art foil promo card featuring Scream Tail or Iron Bundle, and 65 card sleeves featuring Roaring Moon or Iron Valiant.
This also comes with 45 Pokémon TCG Energy cards, a player’s guide to the Scarlet & Violet—Paradox Rift expansion, and a collector’s box to hold everything, with 4 dividers to keep it organized.
You will also get 6 damage-counter dice, 1 competition-legal coin-flip die, and 2 plastic condition markers.
You will also find a code card for Pokémon Trading Card Game Live.

All the stuff he needs to get started. After that I strongly recommend just going to a local games shop once in a while so he can buy his favourite cards as singles. Packs are super expensive right now and the pull rates are pretty bad in most sets.

    • I recommend attending looking for a Pokemon League nearby (they do learn to play sessions and will have a good community to get your kid started along with other kids as well)

If I had a kid I would avoid timezone, pokemon cards and any f2p gaming in general. These things are all gambling disguised as fun and games for kids and as a parent you'd be buying these things forever if your kid took an interest in these.

I'd get mine into fishing, riding their bikes, camping and enjoying the outdoors like in the old days.

      • "Back in my day" vibes. You know you can ride your bike AND enjoy Pokemon, right? It's not one or the other.

        • +2

Valid point about Timezone though, there's almost no arcade machines left. Nowadays it's basically a Pachinko parlour. I'm honestly shocked it's legal.

          • @thatguyfromthatplace: Can't say I've been to one in the last 3 years~ but last time I went it seemed pretty normal. What's changed?

            • @pharcyde: I went into one a few weeks ago before seeing a movie, it was mostly ticket machines, coin pushers, skill testers, they had a few of those Japanese ones where there are tickets inside the machine you grab with a claw and then get prizes from a cabinet. I had to go right to the back to find an actual arcade game. They had Mario Kart, Jurassic park, a couple of racing games, and that was it.

Pokemon cards are all investment bros / resellers now which has driven up the cost of sealed / new product to crazy heights. I would NOT recommend going down that route of buying packs and opening them for cards.

For an actual starting player, this is actually a good thing. Don't look at buying new product from stores or from resellers unless you or your kid wants the ripping fresh packs to get hits experience. If they are interested in playing, heaps of people (including ebay sellers) will sell bulk cards for VERY cheap because they aren't worth money and are just taking up physical space for these sellers. You could get a like 1000s of cards for less than a trip to McDonalds. Then just buy some energy cards for the deck type you want (also cheap, probably more energy than you need for less than $5) and you now have enough cards to just put together a deck and muck around with

Might not be competitively viable decks but who cares, be enough for a casual game with yourself or even with their friends.

If the interest persists and they want to build a competitive-ish deck, there are plenty of guides / deck recommendations for certain budgets, skill levels etc. Find something that you already have a bunch of cards for then just to purchase single cards from groups or card shops.

Alternatively, they release premade decks which don't get scalped as much as usually the cards within are known and of little value to "investors". My local Big W has a stack of rival battle deck boxes that contain 1 premade deck + a bunch of other items used for play and they've been sitting there for weeks.

      • Yes, I see entire boxes of Pokemon cards being unloaded at local auctions. Hundreds of nearly worthless cards in each one, with a few very cheap holos at the front to try and entice buyers. If someone wants to actually play the game it's ideal.

The Battle Academy from JB or others (or you might find on FB marketplace) is an ok basic set to start learning. Includes 3 numbered decks and instructions. Once you learn, you can play it any order however you want.

More info on Reddit link below someone posted on a previous deal, including print at home cards to make a deck if you don't have enough.

  • It's been 30 years and no one knows how to play the actual game. Kids just try to unpack rare ones and trade them with friends.

    • +2

The 2000 Game Boy Game taught me how to play the TCG haha.

      • This was my fav gameboy game

        • The sequel (Japan only) has been translated and can be played on an emulator…

    • Kids school has a card game club.
They have their own pokemon decks and play weekly.
Getting current cards has been hard because of all the scalpers.

    • TCG Pocket app is really good for teaching game. I just got bored though and stopped playing

  • +10

pokemon cards currenty ruined by scalpers. not even worth trying to collect it atm.

    • +1

I only just started last year and yeah, I'm not going to try to buy anything in the current climate. I guess it's a good thing as I'm spending crazy amounts on other things…

      • between this and labubus.. hopefully people move onto another fad soon

        • Labubu = most freakish thing in a while. How did it even become a fad…

  • Was about to buy this then remembered the current situation simply trying to collect them and passed. Thanks for posting this though OP!

  • +1

People havent watched the friendlyjordies episode on jbhifi I see 🤣

  • +1

All the sneaker heads now hoarding pokemon cards !

  • +1

Buy singles, let the scalpers die in their own purchases

  • OP, do you plan to post these regularly?

  • One week after expected delivery date and my order has not moved. Just says it's scanned in the system. Have spoken to JB Support twice now and they believe it's being sent untracked, despite having a tracking number. Been told "these things happen" and to "wait 15 business days after the expected delivery date".

    What a fking joke.

    • Same boat

    • Same, they will not do anything until this Wednesday. I don't even have a single scan in the system though, just 'label created'.

    • I'm the same, my tracking status has been stuck at 'label created' since the 30th of July.

    • +1

I got the exact same response, pretty disappointed… I said to them did your warehouse get raided and they just said oh sometimes it gets sent untracked….

      • ..and then somehow all these mysteriously untracked parcels have gotten lost…. Mmmmmm

  • Update from JB Hifi on my non-delivery, they are not going to investigate more until August 19th… blaming AusPost for being slow to deliver.

    • I got the same response. Then today, I got an email from AusPost with a new tracking ID from JB HiFi.

I haven't ordered anything else from JB lately, so here's hoping it's the booster bundle.

      • Same… hopefully not just another 20 day stalling tactic.
