Kogan Infinity 38" Curved Ultrawide WQHD+ 144Hz 1ms FreeSync USB-C Gaming Monitor - $649 ($629 with FIRST) Delivered @ Kogan

SHIPFREE

Kogan Infinity 38" IPS Gaming Monitor. Curved ultrawide WQHD+ (3840 x 1600) resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, FreeSync, USB-C with 65W power delivery.

Wanted to post this earlier but pulled the trigger on it the other night while high as (profanity) and received it today so figured it would be nice to share my thoughts on it alongside posting the deal.

Firstly, it's huge. I've had to order a new monitor mount because I can no longer fit a second monitor next to this thing. New monitor mount will let me put my old 27" monitor above this 38" one.

I ran a test and manually checked for dead pixels as soon as I got it out of the box and am happy to report there is not a single dead or stuck pixel. The screen is immaculate as far as I can tell. However I am just a gamer, not a professional monitor tester or anything.

I also tested the USB-C with both my work laptop (dell, windows) and my wife's macbook pro. Both connected and charged off the USB-C cable which is super nice. Dunno if I'll actually use it but having the option is good.

Specs:
IPS
144Hz
3840x1600 resolution, ultrawide
USB-C, DP, HDMI
2300r curve
FreeSync

Ask me any questions about it, I'll answer what I can. If you want a specific test or something run, you might have to tell me how to do it!

Also, $629 with Kogan FIRST, which you can do a trial of and cancel after (which I did).
They are also offering free shipping right now it seems, which they didn't when I ordered last week :(

    what were you high on?

    • +17

      potenuse

      • +4

I wish I was high on potenuse

      • +1

hey look at that little fella

  • -1

Any idea why it's so much cheaper than Dell 38" which is ~$1900? What features would be missing?

    • +1

KVM I know. That one acts as hub and superior quality but it’s $1k+ difference. So I stuck with decisions too.

    • +1

Honestly I wish I knew all the differences and stuff so I could tell you but I really don't

I read somewhere that Kogan acquires panels from Samsung and LG cheap, that might be not up to LG/Samsung standards but considering the one I am looking at right now has no flaws at all, I don't see how that could be the case.

Otherwise maybe it just has cheaper components and less features? KVM being mentioned by another commenter, and probably other things. Dell one probably has proper GSYNC which isn't cheap, amongst other things

    • +1

B grade panels as mentioned, usually "reject" panels that don't meet the standard for ultra sharps.

Basic display/led drivers sourced from China.

Simple usb hubs and thunderbolt plugs vs full blown kvm

  • +2

Is 2300 curvature makes it too flat big? Currently I'm using 1500r and it is prefect, not too curved and not too flat.

    • +1

The last ultrawide I had a few years ago was a 1000r and I hated it beyond measure, so by comparison this is significantly better. I can see how some might find it flat but personally it's fine

  • Op, can you return for change of mind and are there charges in that case?

  • +3

I've had it since January from this deal. for a little less

No issues. Huge. No ghosting that I can notice, no stuck pixels.

    • Oh damn, that was a good deal. How did I miss it

      • +4

        You weren't high then.

    • +1

Yeah just came to post and say it was previously $499.

  • +3

Look at this little fella, he bought a monitor.

  • Can you plug peripherals (KB+Mouse) into the USB ports and use them via the USB-C port plugged into laptops? I can't really see that from the specs on Kogan's site.

    • +1

Yup, it'll work as a KVM switch basically.

      • Awesome, thanks!

    • +1

I will try and test this for you shortly, after I take my kids to dance etc

      • +2

I read this as "after I teach my kids to dance etc" which seemed like an awesome way of saying no.

        • +2

I'll get this done for you mate no probs, when pigs fly

  • +3

AFAIK this is the same panel the 38WR85QC-W (or similar revision) uses but didnt meet specific requirements (contrast, brightness, colour accuracy etc), so Kogan buys em cheap off LG as B stock.

Kogan then throw their own/cheaper mounts/power solutions (65w Kogan vs 90w LG), and drops the ethernet port etc.

Friend had his shipped/delivered within a week - actually came from Aus, wasn't from overseas and has had no issues with it. Amazing for the price. I'd pick this over any VA in the same price range if youve got the space for it/the curve works for you

  • Can you output 144hz for all inputs (USB-C, HDMI, DP)? Also does HDR work? Specs page doesn't give much info.

    • It worked with USB-C and DisplayPort but I don't have a HDMI cord to test with, sorry!

HDR turns on and seems to work but I don't think it's proper/real HDR

    • Yeah this one is hard to say - if we assume it IS the same panel as the 38WR85QC-W per my post above - it supports HDMI 2.1 and DP 1.4 both will do 120hz 4k, so presumably can do 144hz 1600p which isn't quite 4k. Type C should do it as well, though it likely uses some type of DP-Alt mode via C if I had to guess.

HDR spec is probably where the b-stock comes in. The panel I believe it's based off can do HDR600, but Kogan lists 300 max brightness - so no, it can't do decent HDR.

Saw this comment which seemed to suggest HDMI 2.1 isn't installed here, but wasn't sure if maybe the model had been updated. I guess the panel could be an LG B stock but the chip/ports could be all Kogan.

        • Yeah that makes sense.

So basically DP for gaming or bust. Type C good only for laptop/work kinda thing.

  • i have the alienware version. Biggest issue is the heat. You feel it on your face - it makes you feel more tired. Had to mount if farther back.

    • AW3425DWM?

      • AW3821DW

        • +1

Maybe try reducing brightness. I’ve got the one I commented above, don’t feel any heat on the face. By any chance do you have difficulty driving at night times with all the lights glaring at you?

I remember back when we used to buy the cheap Korean monitors on eBay with names such as Qnix Yamakasi Catleap Crossover and so on.
Theres still a 1300+ page thread on overclock.net about them.

My first 1440p monitor got a good few years out of it, had a Samsung PLS panel and overclocked to 120hz.

Is these Kogan monitors the modern day equivalent ?

    • I'm still rocking my 42" 4K Wasabi Mango Freesync to this very day 🤘

      • You've got your moneys worth out of that screen!

        • Yeah it's still going strong. Those were the days when $1AUD was worth around $1USD - so it made these sort of imports way way cheaper than they are today.

    • My Yamakasi Catleap 27 died (or at least the power supply) about 3 years ago. Was definitely worth the money for 10 years. Mine didn't OC though.

  • Which monitor arm did you get for this monitor?

  • Whilst obviously a big step up in pricing, anyone got this monitor or thoughts on it and is it worth it? Kogan Infinity 49" Curved Ultrawide QD-OLED Dual QHD 5K 144Hz 0.03ms USB-C Gaming Monitor (5120 x 1440)

    • Can I used this to split up to 3 different screens like you can with a Dell monitor? Is there anything I need to install to make this work?

      • +2

Use Windows Powertoys on WIN11 - free microsoft tool - allows you to preset layout style on a screen for auto clip/windows snapping and management. Also on Displayfusion for older windows version.

Doesn't work for Fullscreen Videos and Games, not sure if there's a software for fullscreen apps.

        • Thanks very much!

        • Have used Powertoys Fancyzones ever since going Ultrawide. Great app.

        • lmao yes! One of the first things I did after getting this new monitor set up was reconfig my powertoys fancyzones

  • This or Kogan Infinity 34" Curved Ultrawide Mini-LED WQHD 180Hz USB-C Gaming Monitor $589/$599 ..

    • +1

I looked at that one but it is a VA monitor which, for me, is an immediate turn off. Whereas the one I've posted is IPS. But, each to their own

  • For a work from home + occasional game purpose (nothing demanding graphics wise) - what's a good alternative?

Already have a flat Kogan 34" and the monitor's software/UI has been horrible.
    Example:
    - if you accidentally choose an input that's not connected (say the DP input, in my case, unused since I didn't have a DP cable) - it immediately shuts down and you're stuck with that.
    - after a year, stats blinking different colour screen when the input computer is off.

  • Kogan warranty is 1 year, and you will jump through hoops for ACCC law

  • No VESA mount support?

    • +2

100x100, mounted it after I tested the monitor after I had it delivered

  • does this have RGB? if so can you disable those annoying lights?

    • Seems to just have one light from the nipple button on the back right. No other lights like RGB etc

  • Can anyone please share their opinion comparing to this, I know it’s VA panel but does that matter if it’s for productivity use only. Like emails, excel etc.

    • +1

no idea, ive been waiting a month for mine from Amazon… apparantly this friday ill get it caue they has stock issues

  • Not sure if this is a deal.

Looking at the product on the Wayback machine shows that this monitor is usually $599 or less shipped, with a Kogan First trial.

  • Feel like 38" 21:9 is the perfect form factor, don't know why it isn't more popular.

  • does anyone have a video of this? @mojadu

    • +1

I might be able to do some kind of video tomorrow, what exactly are you after? Some hectic Path of Exile mapping at 3840x1600@144hz with some strange grunting from behind the camera?

      • I'm wanting to know if it is as bright as the LG counterpart. Is the text pixelated or very clear….there is just nothing on the internet on it.

        • +1

Took some photos and a little video. Brightness is just set to default which is 80 out of a possible 100, which is fine for me.

          https://imgur.com/a/r5BKePo
          https://streamable.com/niiqgp

Sorry about the video quality…did that just now in the dark. Doesn't really speak to the monitor quality tbh

          • @mojadu: thank you!

im been tossing up between 34" KTC monitor but it's VA, bought a whole lot of monitors lol so just going through them now. I have now verified it is in fact an LG IPS black screen that Kogan is selling so im just waiting on an OEM Dell Panel. There is a way to get a full refund from Kogan by buying it via ebay on ebay plus… You just have to pay for shipping back. :P

          • @mojadu: thanks man, there are no reviews etc online so this helps
