Thumbs up for the grading page!

  • +23

Failing to include 'dead pixels' in your definition table for A vs B grade and then sneaking it through in your 'examples' is scumbaggy.

Nobody would accept dead pixels as 'fully functional', 'cosmetic damage' or 'moderate signs of use'. Same with 50-60% battery life - that's not 'B' grade.

The simple solution is to be honest and have a 'C' grade: may contain some dead pixels; may have sub-par battery life.

    • +29

The dead pixel thing would be an error, and I'll have that fixed up. Units won't go out with dead pixels at all and would be a fail unit.

Don't confuse dead pixels and screen bruises; they are two different things.

  • +3

Decent as is, though if this was $249 this would indeed be a contender for the best deal for a refurb machine. Just needs guarantees about the BIOS locks and other idiosyncrasies. Great to turn into a Linux machine for de-Windowers.

Just saw the comment about the grading and the dead pixels. Welp.

    • +8

No BIOS locks. Will have that updated.

  • Are these e-sim compatible?

    • +1

      Not that i'm aware of.

      • Does it have sim card modem? Thanks.

        • +3

I'm not 100% sure; it's a mix of stock, and they are optional from the factory.

TBH I'm pretty sure if they did have it, it would only be a 4G LTE card anyway. Better off tethering your phone to it.

        • Mine came with a Sim Card Slot and Modem.

          Depends what you get.

          • +4

@Tom2458: WANN optional on pretty much all the stock we sell; because of that, we don't advertise it specifically. It will be luck of the draw.

Just note as well, whilst the stock may have Sim Slot and may also take a WANN card, because it was not optioned with this from the factory, the antenna cables that run through the screen and to the card slot will be missing.

Any deals similar for a touch screen version ?

    Re: quality control and transparency

Check out reviews, previous posts, and comments.

    Buyer beware

    • +18

I bought one from them, honestly, the quality wasn’t the best. However, the return process was smooth, and they covered the shipping fee. I imagine doing business nowadays isn't easy, I think they're decent.

    • +7

ACT have been around for years, they aren't some amateur hour gig.

      • +3

I've been following their deals and the comments that come in 1-2 weeks after publication once OzBargainers have received and tested their units

It's YMMV, you can get decent wares, but the strike-rate of complaints and returns tells the picture of their quality control

        • their QA was low but after sales service was high, ymmv

    • +6

I've bought 3 laptops and a desktop from them, always in perfect working order. Returned an item too that was surplus to needs and they were more than happy to refund, no questions asked. A single neg vs >70 upvotes stands out.

    • +1

I got a Grade B from them recently (and returned it) and it looked like it had fallen off the back of a truck.
Loads of scratches, a few dints - it looked like it had lived a hard life.
      Glad they've updated their Grade A & B descriptions.

  • +6

Bought two Dells from the previous deal, decent quality.

  • +4

I bought a hp g6 from these blokes, a few months ago, laptop looked brand new with only the rubber feet missing. Had the previous companies logo on the set up page but I wiped it clean anyway.
The battery is okay and the keyboard sometimes has sticky keys but I'm pretty happy for the price and recommend them if you want a decent laptop for cheap

  • i see option to increase storage, can you add more RAM as well?

    • +3

      Soldered :(

      • But sdd upgradable?

        • Yeah mate, standard M.2

  • Are the keyboards backlit?

    • Pretty sure the few that I looked at were. If you receive one that isn't just reach out.

      • +4

        …for a torch.

    • +1

Mine is backlight, you need to turn it on in the bios though.

      • +4

Pretty sure it's also a function on one of the function keys too

  • Great deal imo

  • +1

Great deal. I bought a surface pro 7 from them last year and was v happy 😄

  • Great price and props to the grading page.

  • +2

This seems like a great deal. I'm gonna throw https://omarchy.org/ on here and use it as a light dev machine + game streaming w/ https://moonlight-stream.org/

    • That's pretty cool, dumb question, so can I have a gaming PC in my house and stream it to any TV and game on it from there?

      • Yeah, that's right. Ideally you would have a device (atv, shield, xiaomi tv box) attached to the TV with a more power cpu to handle decoding the stream quickly, but you can install Moonlight on almost anything. I have it on all my phones, tablets, and computers at home and most of the time (after some tinkering with settings), it feels pretty native, especially if you have wifi 6 devices (like the Latitude afaik) or ethernet.

  • +4

I bought one of these from the last deal, $319 delivered it was virtually brand new.

I went into the bios, it was booted up from new, assume imaged and put back into storage for 1.5 years, booted back up and wiped, ACT checked it out before shipping.

Edit, mine came a single 16GB ram stick, 2nd slot is free.

  • +1

Will you have Surface pro 7 with 16gb ram on sale soon??

  • It says 'Special Discount '7420' is invalid.'
How to avail the discount ?

    • +1

      Add the $200
      7420$200
I did the same. Purchased one to replace my 10 year old surface.

      • same, replacing my surface book 1 hahaha time to put it to retirement.

  • +2

How I don’t need anymore, please stop!

Any Lenovo’s t or p series for this price?

  • Couldn't resist at that price - bought one for my dad

  • Looking at getting one of these for the old man. Worth upgrading the HDD to 500GB for $74?

    • +3

It's standard M2, you can upgrade it yourself.

      • The OS would be on the existing SSD right, would I need to get an external enclosure to clone the contents before switching?

        • +2

That is one way, or just do a clean install on the new drive.

The license is tied to the machine, not to the drive.

  • Good deal, guess it can replace the cheap crappy Dell thing I bought 10 years ago as a random home device.

  • +1

I know it's the norm now, but a bit sad that even top of the line business laptops like the 7 series have soldered ram.

    • Pretty effective way for products to become e-waste without damaging the brand image and encourage new purchases/revenue.

      • +1

I think it's more of a design issue; if you want slim and portable, there need to be concessions.

    • it's because its the higher end unit, go for the mid-range 5420's and you'll get a thicker case and non-soldered ram

  • Damn out of stock. Was just going to checkout 😭😭

  • Out of stock.. Any other deals available ?

  • +2

Out of stock sorry, may do another drop on the 5420's later in the week.

    • Do a Precision deal, I'm in the market.

      • I wish we had the stock in quantity. Got a couple smick precision i9 7770 with Rtx 3080ti

    • Please do! Missed out on this lot.

    • drop a Surface Pro 7 16gb ram deal plz

  • Ordered one earlier, thanks

  • Darn it! Missed out. Any more stock and deal planned?

  • Dang it, missed out :(

  • When it says professional refurbished, what does that actually mean? I have purchased refurb units off many sellers, and nothing looks to be done except maybe a keyboard wipe at best. Apple Refurbished is what I call professionally refurbished.

  • Damn, missed out. Got anymore deals coming up for similar?

  • +1

Received the laptop this morning. Quality of the product pretty much in line with the grade A specs.
Only issue being is I received a kettle power cable instead of the 3 pin power one but a quick call to ACT has this resolved - they'll be express posting the correct one to me.

  • +1

Received mine today. I would also classify it as A grade, happy with the purchase.

  • Got mine today. can confirm does have sim slot but like OP said it doesn't work. it has the webcam, as I have a similar model that has a face recognition, this one just has the webcam.(wasn't expecting face recognition but wasn't sure if standard or not.
I am not sure if I would grade it as A per their description. It does have scratches and the plastic where your rest your hand under the arrows is very sticky like old remotes. will try cleaning with some acetone.
Also had the blue screen when office was installing.
Overall happy with the purchase and hopefully no more bluescreen.

Also is this supposed to have back lit keyboard ?

    • Backlight should be a shortcut on the function keys

      • I have an exact model from work, on that F5 turns backlit on with two setting and off, definitely not on this one.

        • +1

Yeah I've had the 7410 and have a 7440 next to me now.

Looks like the IR camera and backlighting were optional, putting your service tag into the Dell support site should show what it came with.

    • +1

The one I received has a back lit keyboard

      • checked my service tag and it says it should have backlit, but definitely not working and nothing in BIOS.

    • balckit working on mine.

  • Got mine today.. looks good apart from a large dent on the body on the lid .. hope it doesn't cause any longer term issues.

    • +3

That's grade B in my opinion!

  • +2

Got mine today, no major dents. 1 TB HDD was a good upgrade.
    Happy with the purchase.

  • +2

Just picked mine up, there only seems to be some scuffs on the base and some very minor wear where your wrists rest on the keyboard.

Didn't realise there was a bit of a quality drop on the non-touchscreen versions, a lot of the surfaces are slightly rubberized. Looks like I got one with a backlit keyboard though so that's a bonus. Given it's a device to keep the girlfriend off my gaming PC and it's replacing a 10 year old 11" Celeron powered Dell thing it'll do fine

    • +1

Battery looks pretty good (reporting as "Excellent"), and as others have said it came with a 3rd party charger, a Simplecom 65W PD GaN with the standard USB-C cable you get with Dell monitors.

  • +2

Got mine today. Very happy with the quality. Has a backlit keyboard.

  • +1

Mine arrived today. Came with a new Dell 90w charger. Battery seems fine. Dell 3-year warranty finished in May2025. Last windows update was on Feb 24. Looked like it had very little use from inside (backlit keyboard), but there's plenty of scratches on the lid. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase.

  • Got mine 5 Aug. Not sure it was ever used. Pristine condition. No cycles reported on the battery. 100.0% battery capacity. All specs as described, backlit keyboard, original charger. Extremely happy.
