    $5 or $3 profit

    • +2

      And CC points

  • +9

Of course it's the week after PAYG installments are due!

    • +1

Yep. Stock up for next time!

    • Mine's due on the 11th. I assumed it would be the same date for everyone.

      • +1

Huh, mine are always due on the 28th of the month after the installment quarter.

        • Hmmm. The letter does say the instalment due date is July 28, but the effective date in the activity statement says August 11.

Last time I paid on the effective date of May 12, and wasn't charged any interest.

  • -1

    Finally something decent.
Now wait for vanilla in Sep.

  • When will 15% off back?

    • +1

      They were never 15% off.

    • I’m waiting for the 20% off. Hopefully it’ll come soon.

      • +6

        100% off coming soon.

        • Trump is offering 1000% off medications so this seems very feasible.

        • +1

You missed it with the qantas marketplace deal .. actually it was between 300% to 400% off 😂

          • +1

@easternculture: I'm still dirty about that. I spent maybe 2hrs that day trying to find a decent deal to pay my council rates. Tried a tech lead card (postbill pay/ PayPal ..didn't work)
Gave up. Posted that the Tech Head cards won't work on rates..checked deals….headed off.
3 mins later that deal was posted.

I came home and got on Oz B. Got em in cart but the errors kicked in.. deal fell over.

Did the "bonus" cards actually activate?

I was just dirty on missing out on the points!

    • +1

Few years ago . This was one deal we were suppose to avoid

      • True story….we were not strong.

    • +1

      We’re gonna get the prices down. Not 30 or 40%, which would be great, not 50 or 60, no. We’re gonna get ’em down 1,000 %, 600 %, 500 %, 1,500 %…. DJT

  • +1

crap I am overseas and cant get any this time around.. bummer….

    • +22

Happy to get you some. Just pm your cc details and I’ll buy them for you.

      • -4

        Username checks out

  • On $100, is it like 5% off after fees…?

    • +3

Eventually yes. It’s just in the form of FlyBuys points instead.

  • +3

Havent seen the 10% off for so long.

    • +1

Yeah I don't think they are coming back anytime soon.

  • Actual usefulness if you're not trying to meet minimum cc spends whilst churning for bonus offers?

Notwithstanding, seems low. Wondering what I'm missing.

    • +7

5% off council rates and/or utility bills is not that bad when you have to pay it anyway.

      • And ATO

      • 5% off capped at $25 saving right?

        • +2

Per account. Don't tell us you only have one account…..

          • +4

@bigspike: Please take my Ozbargain membership card sir.
            Walks away in shame.

          • +5

@bigspike: Yeah cbf. I'm not easternculture, actual family of 4, virtual family equal to the population of Tuvalu

      • +1

Additionally, since you can purchase these using Amex, when you pay bills, which can only be paid by Visa/Master you get Amex points. These are usually higher.

      • Do you have to pay a surcharge when paying council rates with this card?

  • +8

    meh

    • -2

It’s amazing how low some people go

  • +5

heading to Coles now to look for those already hiding in the freezer

    • I’ve hidden them somewhere else now. Freezer was a bit too obvious.

    • classic

  • Out of curiosity, how many of these cards at most could you buy at once?

    • Limit 5 Gift Cards per Flybuys account.

    • +3

      All of them.
But you only get bonus points for 5 cards.

    • I'm surprised you haven't got negged people here are brutal

  • +4

Just in time for Council payments.

  • -1

One clarification needed: Per day 5 or only 5 ?

    • +5

It’s literally in the OP and bolded in the terms:

"BONUS POINTS can be awarded more than once for each Gift Card type… but can only be collected up to 5 times per Flybuys account."

So no, not 5 per day. It’s 5 total per account for the entire promo, not a daily buffet of bonus points.

If it were 5 per day, Coles would need a Flybuys call centre triage unit by Wednesday.

      • Okay thanks

I was confused with some woollies gift card conditions

    • +1

There were times you could get five per day, long gone.

      • Not if you have 7 accounts.

  • +12

Last time I bought these they had been tampered with (external packaging showed no signs). It took months to get the money back. Never again.

    • any signs after open? or you just know when you use it?

  • Does buying these result in jacked up spend in the regular "spend $xx over 4 weeks" flybuys offers? I'm currently at $50 or 60

      • This explains my spend $280 'offers'…

        • I wonder what has to be done to bring it back down? a week or a few of spending $10 to $20 per week?

Because I need to spend $525 to profit $50 of flybuys points from this deal (5 cards)

or… spend 4 weeks x $50 to get $50 of flybuys points, which I comfortably do

If i spend $525 for this deal and then I get a 'spend $280' offer then I'll not be able to do that deal and end up effectively with less flybuys points (after fees) with a lot more hassle!

          • @quackster: Totally not worth buying gift cards when you have to scan flybuys 😞.

          • +2

@quackster: Yet another benefit to having multiple accounts…. keep one "pristine".

    • +1

      Wasn't the case for me.

    • Yep, it will

  • 5%

  • Is this essentially just a max $5 profit per $100 ? Or am i reading this wrong?

    • +6

Yes. $5 profit per $100 card. You nailed it. No secret trick, no hidden catch, no quantum maths required.

Just $10 in Flybuys, minus the $5 fee. That’s it. That’s the whole deal.

      • +5

        I can feel your pain

        • +7

$5 is 10x your username. What pain? You must be in heaven.

      • no quantum maths required, just rocket science

    • You also get 50c worth of base flybuys points, plus what ever points or cashback from your credit/debit card.

  • https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/891165 comment from April says didn't work with ATO, any more recent experience

    • +4

I was able to use a Coles Mastercard gift card last week on the ATO's myTax portal.

      • Just curious we generally get refund from ATO but many users here saying they paying to ATO
Is there any trick to pay less tax upfront and then paying back in the year end ?

        Any savings tip ?

        • +3

You would generally end up owing tax after submitting an income tax return if your employer does not withhold enough from your salary for tax and you earn income from other sources that do not withhold tax (e.g. interest from bank accounts, tips, dividends from ETFs that generate overseas income).

If you really want to end up with a tax debt at the end of the financial year, maybe have a look at this thread (although I will leave it to you to determine which "advice" in that thread is actually sound…).

Keep in mind a lot of the users here saying they are paying off the ATO probably have debts other than income tax debts (e.g. HELP debts, business activity statements (BAS)).

        • +1

Use these cards to pay your private health insurance, but don't claim any rebate, then you'll get it back at tax time.

    • Still works with the ATO. I used it yesterday.

  • The thing is then I have to spend the fly buy points or exchange it for gift cards instead of an upfront discount.

  • -1

Don't do it on an account that gets good offers e.g. 4x $50 spend get 10k points as these count as spend and all of a sudden it's will be a spend 4x $250 for 10k points

  • -2

The trick is to tell the cashier you are going to slightly open the cards in front of them to check tampering before buying

Watch out for numbers that are scratched off

This will save you lots of headaches

  • Just to clarify can i purchase 5x100 plus 5x250 and get 10,000 x 2 flybuy points? So 20k in total

  • Does this work for ATO payments? Any fee for purchasing with Amex, can't see anything listed.
Can we not just sign up for a second flybuys account to use the offer twice? Say if needing to complete ATO / AMEX churn?

    • +1

Does this work for ATO payments?

I was able to use one at the ATO portal last week. I have no idea if anything has changed since last week. I am assuming you are referring to the ATO portal, rather than a third-party (e.g. Australia Post, Sniip).

Any fee for purchasing with Amex, can't see anything listed.

No, Coles does not surcharge any card payments.

Can we not just sign up for a second flybuys account to use the offer twice?

      You could do that.

Make sure the second Flybuys account remains separate from your first Flybuys account. If you instead add a new cardholder to your first Flybuys account, you will instead end up with two Flybuys cards linked to the one Flybuys account (and that will not get you around the points limit for this deal).

      • Legend! That makes perfect sense. I think making the separate flybuys won't allow you to 'accumulate/transfer' them all into the primary velocity via transfer. The only way I can see it work is to purchase a coles gift card ($50) with the 10000 points you would get per 5 cards. I suppose at that point you are in $35 in fees for a 50$ giftcard but the advantage is you get ATO payment at zero amex fee which allows you to meet the min spend thresh hold for example (and get 2 amex points per spend on explorer card).

  • Thanks OP

  • It is 2000 flybuys point, to me it is worth less than real $10 :)

    • even less than $5 worth points after surcharge.
but still probably gone in first or 2days.

      • Flybuys card limits the purchase amount. Some staff may stop you from buying the second lot if you're unlucky on that day.

  • If only I had a credit card needing $x,000 spend in the next y months to use this on. Too late now :-\

  • +4

Is this worth the risk with tampered cards etc just for $10-20 in points?

  • Do i have to buy the gift card one after another to get the flybuys point, or i can buy all 5 together with one payment?

    • +1

      all together is fine

  • Have people had success buying two lots with two flybuys cards? or does the staff limit you to one transaction?

    • Staff at my local don't like it. So I just go at different times or bring my partner too.

      • +3

Pretend you are not together. I have been told a couple of times that it's one purchase per family. When these deals are on, they just make the rules up.

        • I had the same experience for the first time TODAY. The staff said I saw you two come together, and you should only buy 5 totally! I tried to argue with her. Instead my partner said "oh" and just asked her to authorize
