In case anyone is looking for decent quality tool ratchet set.

Shits on Stanley etc in my opinion.

KS-Tools is a German brand and I've been working with these for quite a while. Their customer service is great as well and they've replaced lost or broken items for free in the past. I've been looking for that set for a while, but it was always priced at $260+. Make sure to go the GERMAN Amazon Store.

Cheers.

    I don't need this I don't need this I don't need this…
    Fantastic set though

    • True!TRue! TRUe TRUE!

  • +3

If I did not already have a great collection I would jump on this. Keep telling myself do not buy.

Great deal and no SAE you may never use.

    • +4

      Succumbed and bought it.

Whist I have everything they are in multiple sets.

This is a one stop case of tools when working on the car.

      • +2

didn’t need it as i have gearwrench and toolpro-x in 6 pt, but i do like satin finish on tools, grabbed a set.

        • Hey , this isn't a fashion statement !

      • +2

I love how you didn't even last an hour before caving in

  • +1

didn't need it but I have seen what's available in this price range and this is a ripper. couldn't stop pulling the trigger.

    • +3

You couldn't stop buying it? Just over and over and over?

  • +1

    This or the MacBook? 🤣

    • 🤣🤣🤣 same dilemma

    • macbook air when they have killer deal on 15”. always get a better deal when you can buy out of choice rather than urgency.

  • +6

If you have Amazon business account, that price will be $143.6 plus $10 voucher for next eligible order.

  • +4

All six-point sockets and no imperials, far out!

  • +1

Ordered time to pass the Stanley set to the apprentice

  • +1

    Are these made in Germany?

    • +1

Not explicitly stated but the bit of research indicated the bulk of the manufacturing was undertaken in Germany.

    • +2

aaa no this one is though https://europeantools.com.au/products/hazet-47-pce-1-4in-1-2…

This is noting more than a cheap generic Chinese manufactured set noting exciting, I'd go for Bahco over this, If you want proper tools you'd have to pay a lot more Hazet , Snap-on, Facom, USAG, WERA, MAC Tools etc…

and no this is not better than Gearwrench

but for what it costs this is a good deal….

      • -2

I suspected that at this price they aren't German. I won't buy CCP-made hand tools. The minimum for me is Taiwan.

        • I've got Snap-on and Mac,Wera and Gearwrench….to be honest Gearwrench are brilliant for what they cost and they are my go to now… Toptul are really good made in Taiwan also I like to hunt for japanese made koken KTC and vessell on amazon japan lots of good deals there also…. USAG are really goo also same as Facom and Mac Tools

  • Is KS Tools better quality than Gearwrench?

    • I would say so, I’ve got the Gearwrench ratchet Spanner set and while they do the job, the quality doesn’t feel as good as the KS tools ratchet set I’m also using. Having said that for the price above it’s really hard to go wrong with it and I think it’s a steal.

      • +4

I'd have to strongly disagree - whilst this kit is good value, let's not pretend like this is anything more than generic set made by an ODM in China or Taiwan, with KS Tools branding slapped on top (as opposed to say Wera or Wiha who actually design their own tools).

In my experience value oriented, cookie-cutter 72 tooth ratchets tend to be quite similar across the board (Gearwrench's lower lines included). However, their 90T & 120T stuff has been independently reviewed to be as good as many top-tier brands: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WILuDw5XHXY

I've had a great experience with all my 90T & 120T Gearwrench tools and I'd say they feel about 90% as nice as snap-on & mac tools I've used previously

        • You’ve got a good point there. I haven’t played around with the 90T and 120T Gearwrench tools and have only the ratchet spanners as comparison. They feel no where near as nice as the KS tools
ratchet spanner set. They drag more, are sticky sometimes, the finish isn’t as nice and the case they come is belongs straight into the bin.

I’ll make an effort to have a look at the Gearwrench ratchets at a tool shop next time to see keep them on the radar.

        • I have both Gearwrench 90T and 120T, I feel that the GW 90T ratchets are basically premium quality. 120T feel slightly less so, but still better than most named brand ratchets I have.

  • +1

I don't need this but bought one anyway. What to do with this now? Too early to give my kids, overkill for a spare kit to put in the car…

    • +3

LOL same exact boat as you… Let me know what you decide to do with it. Need some ideas.

    • I have at least 2-3 sets of each size socket so that when I'm working on my cars, I don't have to keep changing sockets on my tools. The electric ratchet usually gets its own dedicated socket set, hand ratchets have a set or two (normal and long handle), and of course rattle guns have their own impact sets.

It may seem excessive to some people, but I usually get bothered and bogged down when I'm looking around for that bloody socket that's on a tool I just placed somewhere. When I'm budgeting x hours for a job, it could take 2x as much time, anything I can do to speed it up is worth it.

  • +1

I was interested and thinking about it to consolidate and possibly upgrade my socket sets.
Trying to work out country of manufacture is very difficult… it appears they contract out all manufacture to different suppliers….eg they say one supplier makes screwdrivers, another makes sockets etc etc
Looking at reviews for this and similar sets on amazon showed far too many reviews of faults and not happys… particularly socket ratchet wrenches.
I'll give it a miss as it doesn't look like it would be an upgrade of my various stanley sidchrome etc sockets.

    • global supply chains are becoming more complex for tools, even some stahlwille items are made in taiwan, it’s the ratcheting spanners i think, and hazet now have a german and taiwanese range, but they are very transparent about that. same with the stanley, they own many brands, and country of origin is often based on market segment, sidchrome from asia for australia market but mac for usa, and facom for europe. low quality seems to be obscure name tools made in india, i haven’t seen tools from india that seem high quality and definitely not with a brand from the stanley or apex group. still, love my german stahlwille spanners, sockets, especially the spec on their hex keys, much better than bondhus. might be the european din standard vs usa ansi, din is tighter tolerance.

      • Stahlwille is just next level.

One would need to remortgage the house to buy a full tool set from them. Having said that, they’re made for life and a ‘buy once cry once’ type of thing.

  • +1

    Thanks OP, bought a set.

  • +1

Can someone help me understand if this is an SAE set or metric set? If SAE, why does the photo description of sockets state it in mm?

    • +4

Metric, 1/4 3/8 1/2 means size of square drive which is standard

  • Awesome set. In my experience shipping from Amazon DE is really slow. Don't know why. Worth the wait but.

  • What's the dimensions of the case?

  • +4

If I do my own timing belt replacement, I can justify this purchase…. Purchased. Thanks OP.

  • Does anyone know where this is made

    • +2

I looked on official page, pdf, back of box images, doesnt say anywhere. Gonna assume China otherwise they wouldn't be hiding it.

  • +1

    Couldn't resist…

    The 917.0795. 195 pieces is $157.64

    • Good find, thanks!

    • Same price, covers the exact same tools in this + more.
      Thank you

  • +2

195 pieces for the same price. Maybe a few more screws bits included :).

These are the additional bits included in mentioned 195 set, also 195 set has E22 socket instead of E20. Everything else is pretty much same so you're not missing out on much if you ordered the 179 set.
They're same price so did cancel my order to think about it though
Edit: 195 set price went up, ordered 179 set again

    • +3

Cancelled the previous order. Tried to buy this one but price went back up before checking out. Decided to stick to the random sets I have and save $150.

    Are these better then Wera?

    • lmao.

This equivalent of Wera would be over $1500

      No.

The KS Tools socket set offers a good selection of tools, but there are some flaws. Some bits are duplicated, which limits the usefulness of the large number of parts. The workmanship is solid, but you shouldn't expect particularly high quality. For occasional repairs and home use, the kit is acceptable, but there are better alternatives for more intensive use.

    • Wera is in a different league, along with a league premium.

Go for Wera if you can justify the price, for 99% of home mechanics, this set presents great value. 72 teeth count ratchets are usually a quality indicator.

      • Home "mechanics" may need a good set if they just tighten bolts with full strength… How many % of them do you reckon got a torque wrench

  • +1

    I don’t need it, I don’t need it, I don’t need it, I don’t need it, I don’t need it, I don’t need it, I don’t need it.

    I NEEEEED ITTT

  • +2

    I don't need 2 of this, don't need 2 of this….bought 1.

  • Are these better quality than ToolPro from Supercheap auto?

    • Not sure about quality but better combination of tools than most toolpro sets for sure. Surprisingly even contains TS pentalobe bits..

    • toolpro-x is 6 point like these, i have the toolpro-x and they are like kinchrome non slip, same pattern different brand, both from taiwan, most toolpro is 12 pt. so this is a better set, you’d just need good set of spanners and you’d be set.

  • +3

Grabbed one so I can finally work on my car… now I just need to buy a car and learn how to fix it!

    • +3

a used bmw will provide plenty of daily opportunities to work on it.

  • +2

how does this one compare to the quality of say this one from super cheap for $200? really wanting to get either one

    https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/toolpro-toolpro-automoti…

    • +4

I'd always go for 6-point sockets, less chance of rounding off.
I'd buy this and use the change to buy your preferred pliers and hex keys. I personally prefer a smaller socket-only set and pair them with other tools as needed, rather than an all-in-one heavy-ass kit that includes pliers, hex, hammers etc.
If you have lots of tools lying around the included pliers are gonna sit unused anyway.
And if it's the only set you have then every time you need a single hex key or some pliers you have to open the whole kit.

    • +1

I have this SCA one. But cos it's so heavy, I hardly reach for it, use my little bag of tools instead.

    • the toolpro is 12 pt, these are 6 pt so less change of rounding, it’s why impact sockets are 6 pt. i also have the toolpro set, works fine if it’s the only set you have but heavy to carry out of the garage but also has sae which is handy for older nuts and bolts but don’t get used much. the equivalent to this is toolpro-x which is 6 point but is never 50% off, 30% is best i have seen, would have been nice if this set had less screwdriver bits and some spanners instead.

    • I concur with the others, that Toolpro 198 piece set is so so heavy that it just ends up permanently staying in the garage.

    • Half of the sockets in the Tool Pro set are nearly useless, unless you work on old American cars, old as in older than 30 years.

Brands insist to include SAE sockets to force consumers to pay more for the set. It costs them bugger all to make those extra sockets to justify selling the toolsets for hundreds, then discount them to create fake deals.

  • -6

does this kit include torque wrench ? (5-25Nm )

    • +1

1/4” torque wrench is ebay buy, mine only gets used on carbon bike and when replacing auto transmission pan gasket, very handy if you need one but they are $30 on their own.

  • +1

    Cheers, grabbed one.
Have most of it already, if not all, but good to have it in one place rather than constantly d*ckin' around looking.

  • Looks like a good quality set, I don't really need it but very tempted to get it, especially all metric, no "useless" SAEs.

What's Amazon international's return policy? In case of missing parts and issues if general?

  • Does anyone know the dimensions of the ratchet handles? My ADHD made it difficult to read all the measurements. I was working on my the yesterday and realised my ratchet handle length is insufficient for any useful amount of torque.

    • Do you have specific handle lengths? To effectively drive corresponding sockets, handle lengths would be very similar across brands, in order to achieve required leverage.

    • +1

To undo a tight bolt you need a breaker bar, these ratchets are not for those jobs. Breaker bars are quite cheap, you should get one if you have sockets.

      • These bolts were brake calliper mount bolts on a Hyundai i30. Would a breaker bar be to big for tight spaces like that?

        • +1

It won't be too tight unless you want to do the job without lifting the car and/or taking the wheel off.
Take a look at the car you'll work on and see what kind of clearance you'd have.
In any case if you're buying this set I recommend you get a breaker bar as well (3/8 or 1/2)

        • +1

Those caliper mounting bolts can be a real pain in the butt if you are doing the rear ones without a lift. You can't rotate the rear wheels to make it easier like how you do the front.

I've been doing brakes so often I've tried many tools. The best thing for these mounting bolts (especially rusted) is an aviation spanner. Depending on the car, you may not have enough clearance to use a socket in the rear, hence a braker bar is out of the question. Go on ebay or Amazon and buy the cheapest set of aviation spanners, or just get 14mm or 17mm for your mounting bolts. I believe I have a Horusdy set and it serves the purpose. It's the only thing that can get to those bolts on one of my cars. I also use these aviation spanners for my oil drain plugs. Super easy effortless drain plug removal.

If you're going to work on your cars a lot, buy an extra long handle ratchet like this https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0CYMTDRQW/ref=ox_sc_ac…, even if you pay full price, it'll be worth it.

    • +2

3/8 is 20cm 1/2 is 25cm you can check specs for individual pieces here
      https://www.kstools.com/en/products/hand-tools-catalogue/soc…

  • +1

Thanks OP, got one via my Amazon business account, $143.60.

  • Can the sockets be used in a impact wrench?

    • Not regularly, impact sockets are usually black because they have a hardening coating to prevent deforming.

Unless specifically impact rated, they are usually aren't.

      • impact sockets don't just have a different coating, the main thing is that they use a softer and thicker material. They are softer so they can absorb impact. If you compare the hardness of these two types of sockets, chrome sockets are harder than impact sockets.

How chrome sockets break on an impact gun is not deforming, they just crack.

  • I have been putting together a tool kit for traveling (4x4 and Caravan). This set is cheaper to buy and pull things out of it, then it is to just by a basic Metric 1/2 Set. Still then end up with a bunch of spares for the shed. Thanks OP.
