  • Curious if anyone has managed to get the credit twice?
I got it years ago when they first launched.
Probably 10 years ago? I wonder if they would retain records for that long?

    • +1

Is it 'this card ' or any Kogan card.

      • Remember it's citi bank. Don't apply if you have 2 other citi cards.
      • If I've had citi cards in the past, am I still eligible?

        • +1

          Yeah, sorry. Should have clarified.

Citi normally auto reject an application on the third Citi based credit card.

So you can hold one other Citi card.

      • First time I applied I already had a citi card and still got the $400

      • +1

It's been NAB for a while.

        • Ah yeah, NAB/ Citi takeover. Does the 'secret' 2 card max rule still apply?

Maybe just take it as a precautionary.

          • @tunzafun001: Possible to get approved while holding more then 1 each Nab/Citi card?

      • Kogan only have this Credit Card.

Their card is no longer Citibank but NAB.

    • Mine was 3 years ago. They must be as this always go through credit check body.

    • +1

I've seen some others report using a different email address for the application, linking it to a different Kogan account (usually the different email address) allows you to get the credit multiple times. Wouldn't bank on it though.

    • These guys have a permanent exclusion period unfortunately.

Can only ever hold it once.

They had about 2 years where you could churn it but they since shut it down.

      • I'm fearing this might be the case more recently. I held the card last year, trying to apply again since closing it around October last year.

I've had countless errors after the ID verification due to "customer verification policies". I'm assuming it's matched me to previous records and rejecting me potentially. Waiting on a response from their customer resolutions team.

  • i don't see any purchase protection or any other complimentary insurance on the card. Does it come with any ?

    • Nope. No insurance that I know of

    • +1

Nah no insurance, and international transaction fees apply. It's a fee free card though. The best use out of this card is the points towards items on Kogan if you want to spend money there.

I timed my first one well and got the credit before moving house. Was able to buy a new fridge to fit the space perfectly, costing about $500 with delivery fees minus the $400 credit. A few other household items with discounts due to Kogan FIRST and cashback on the card too.

  • From people's experience, how long does the bonus credits usually take to come through?

I know it says up to 10 weeks after the spend period, but curious as I reached the minimum spend the other week and now just waiting really.

    • +1

Yes it’s literally 10 weeks after meeting spend.

    • +1

From memory it was a long wait. 10 weeks sounds about right

      • Thank you and @nightelves, at least it's 10 weeks after meeting it rather than the entire 90 day spend period. I will wait patiently, thanks!

I want to confirm for those wondering that I got this card last year and signed up with a different email address to my first card (which I had later cancelled) many years back, and got the credit :) YMMV

It auto creates a new Kogan account with that other email address, with Kogan First activated. I didn’t risk trying to link it with my existing Kogan account.

    • Awesome! Gives me confidence to apply for a new one.

    • Awesome thanks for sharing. Out of curiosity did you sign up when it was Citibank originally then became NAB?

    • I've still got my kogan card… wonder if i can sign up with a different email address lol

    • interesting that this works. if true then this means they only use email address to link identities. that's broken af lol.

      • I don't think it is cos they also do ID check. Unless @magster used different document per email?

        • yeah i know, but lo and behold it works (if the claim is to be believed).

normally an identity is created and matched based on a number of attributes, not just a single one, so even if different emails or IDs are provided for verification they can still match the identity based on those attributes, e.g. name, DOB, government identifiers like driver's licence number or medicare.

most people would provide the same IDs because it's easier since it's already available digitally from previous applications. am curious if @magster actually used different ones but I doubt it as he hasn't mentioned that.

          • @coldazure: Tried again and used my passport instead of drivers licence. Wasn't auto rejected but it's been sent for review, that happened the first time around and it was rejected 2 hours later so we'll see. Slightly different process when I've used a different ID now though so we'll see.

            • @sghetti: Update: Manual verification was successful with my passport and I can proceed with the rest of the application.

      • I'm having issues with getting rejected due to "customer verification policies". Used a different email address and mobile number. Only getting rejected once I complete ID verification (using the same ID document that I used on the previous card).

I did have issues over a month ago due to an application getting stuck during the verification process, during customer resolution they didn't offer anything other than waiting for the applications to expire and try again. Which I believe the time has lapsed now, immediately got a rejection after ID verification again. I don't have any issues with these sorts of thing elsewhere, so either the applications are still queued and causing issues. Or they've blocked me for previously having the card.

  • But what would you do with 400 Kogan credit?

      • Is Kogan prepaid mobile eligible?

        • I don't think the credit can go towards all services (I could be wrong). But you can use the card rewards points towards their other services. When you pay for the service on your Kogan card you can pay with points, and offset the service charge with the points on your card.

The card essentially gives you 1% cashback to spend on Kogan for items or services.

      • Thanks I think I might just do that!

  • Does anyone know if you can do a balance transfer, hit the minimum spend for the bonus credit, pay statement in full by the due date (not incl. balance transfer amount) and claim the $400 without accruing any interest?

    • +1

      Glad you asked.
In theory yes, in practice no

Balance transfer gets paid off first.

So say you transfer $10k in, spend $3k to hit minimum, paying 3k off won't pay off your new debt and they will charge you interest on that.

I have made this mistake before doing the 12mths interest free balance transfer

    • +2

You should be able to do it the other way: hit the spend for bonus credit, pay it off and then request a balance transfer. You'd have 90 days from approval to request a balance transfer.

  • Has anyone ever had experience getting the $400 credit earlier than exactly 10 weeks after meeting the spend?

  • +1

For those playing at home. I've managed to get the card for a 2nd time, with a different email address. I've been in live chat asking about something else and also asked if they could confirm if the $400 was eligible on my account (playing dumb on the fact that I've had one before). They said I was eligible, but will wait to see if I get the credit down the track.

Some notes: I had major issues applying the 2nd time, it may have been due to a glitch though as my first application got stuck after ID verification with drivers licence, 2nd attempt was auto failing as were any other attempts, support advised it was due to the first stuck application and to wait for them to expire. I waited close to 30 days and the applications have dropped off, tried again with drivers licence and auto failed immediately again. I'm not sure if this was failing as it identified my ID already in their system.

I then waited overnight and applied again, this time using my passport and it passed ID verification, was able to submit all my financial details and process it. They asked for a bit more detail than other apps, such as a home loan statement. All approved and ready to go! Their new app is much better than before, you can add the card to Apple Pay immediately and use virtual card details for online purchases too (The virtual card uses a temp CVV though, so I don't think you can setup direct debits like utilities on it until the physical card arrives with a static CVV).

Some notes on other steps I took: I removed address and phone number from my old Kogan account. When I applied for the new card, I used a different email address but the same mobile number, different ID doc (passport instead of drivers licence as above).

The other thing that may have worked in my favour, I had my previous card with Kogan mid last year on their old platform, which I think used your mobile number as part of the login profile. The new application onboarded me into their new platform with a unique customer ID, I'm not sure if cancelling and applying again in the future will work for me now that I have a profile in their new systems. But I feel this is going to be my stock card from now on while churning other cards, given how many issues I had getting back in.

The card itself and their platform is quite good now. You effectively get 1% cashback to spend on Kogan, which has a ton of stuff to buy, rather than going to Kmart or buying knick-knacks needed elsewhere, generally free delivery and using rewards points to lower the price on their website.

  • Credit dropped to $300.
