Mobil M1-103 Oil Filter for Corolla

Hi, looking for a Mobil M1-103 oil filter for a Corolla 1zzfe motor.

GL Lubricants has it listed for $125.xx on eBay and $22.88 on their website. I tried to pay many times and it just gets refunded.

Have bought it many times from them on eBay but the price is now $125 for one oil filter. Amazon has a deal where it's $72 for two filters delivered.

Are there any other options?

Thanks for your viewing.

A genuine Toyota filter is about $25.

    • delivery on top?

      • +3

Where in Australia are you that you're far from a Toyota Dealership?

  • +2

any reason it has to be Mobil?

    • -5

better than oem quality, and only changing oil every year

  • +6

Mobil very likely don't make oil filters. It's probably just rebranded overpriced marketing malaka.

Just get genuine from your local dealership if you are concerned about quality.

Me, I would just get the $15 SCA branded filter. It's a Corolla not a GT3RS FFS.

    • gl lubricants has it for $20 for ages…. now it's 125…

      • +1

Have you called them up to ask why?

        • emailed.

          • +1

            @ilove: phone is quicker.

  • I'm assuming that it's a GR Corolla, hence why you want non-OEM oil filter?

    • -1

      nope.

      • +6

Then a OEM filter changed once a year/15k is more than good enough.

    • +1

1ZZ-FE engine. It will be a 2006 at the latest and if an early model without the updated pistons will burn oil like crazy.

      • +3

I missed that on the original post.

I take care of my cars but I wouldn't go out of my way to find a 'special' oil filter for an engine that makes 100kw.

      • +3

The oil filter is probably worth more than the car

  • +2

Have a look at Ryco Syntec. Part number might be Z418ST depending on year and engine

    • Z386ST Ryco SynTec Oil Filter

      • Was just editing as you replied to say that.

        • Z386ST Ryco SynTec Oil Filter THIS OR TOYOTA?

          • +4

@ilove: Either. You are way over thinking this.

Edit: a quick Google suggests that Mann is the manufacturer of Mobil branded oil filters but do your own research.

            • @MS Paint: Mann would be my choice on a short list.
I suspect the words Mobil 1, gives this filter 'status'. It probably comes with a Mobil 1 sticker, lol.

              • +1

@Protractor: I was just thinking about Mobil 1 yesterday.

I got a new car that has done 10k in the last year, so I'm changing the oil myself and will take the car in for the service when it reaches 15k.

I bought a genuine Subaru oil filter ($24) I believe it's made by Tokyo Roki.

Anyway, looking for oil, few places stock Mobil 1 oil. It use to be pinnacle (or marketed as) when I started driving 20 years ago). Now Mobil 1 isn't stocked at retail stores unless you want 5w30 or 0w40.

I will probably change to 5w30 (and Mann filters) when out of warranty but will stick to the OEM spec 0w20 while under warranty. I believe Mobil 1 has 0w20 but isn't sold in stores.

Ended up going with Nulon 0w20 for like $50 for 5L.

Does Mobil 1 still have the 'status' these days?

                • @JimB:

Does Mobil 1 still have the 'status' these days?

Not sure. But I doubt todays product is comparable to those from the era it earned its reputation. Better or worse I don't know.I don't use it.
That's something you'd need to do some digging on. 'Generally' I like Penrite products, and I also like that you can ask them technical questions direct and they are based in Straya.
I also use Castrol in 2 of our other cars. Oil preference is 80% tech and 20% personal preference. Basically I base it on what ticks the boxes I want.

                  • +1

                    @Protractor: I agree.

I generally use Penrite or Nulon, whichever is cheaper and meets the OEM oil spec (SP/GF-6A) and the correct weight. Both are made in Australia.

Nulon is made in Australia but now owned by Fuchs. Fuchs aren't going to sell a sub-par oil.

                    • @JimB: Yeah the Castrol just seems to be a better option for our older diesel ute, and I can get it easily in 20L from multiple outlets.
The thing I don't like about Penrites 10 and 20L drums is the lack of the bottom tap outlet option, these days.
                      Minor bug.Love the products.

                  • @Protractor:

I also use Castrol in 2 of our other cars.

At least 3 cars (maybe more)?! Ya what mate?
Won't someone think of the climate?!

you have no clue on how many ppl use these vehicles, or how or where, nor what the vehicles are used for.
You brag about too many human footprints is never enough, nek minnit call out shit you have zero clue about.

You brag about too many human footprints is never enough

That's disinformation. I simply poo-poo your relentless "toO mAnY h0oMeNz" rhetoric whenever I can. Disagreeing with that is not the same as advocating the opposite of it.

                        .

you have no clue on how many ppl use these vehicles

No idea? That's a bit strong. I have a good idea to infer that it's probably not you, the wife and 6 kids including two adult kids with their P plates. Or maybe it is and your "toO mAnY h0oMeNz" schtick is more of a "do as I say not as I do" deal.

                        Try harder. Troll others.

You're just peeved I caught you out in The Big Lie that is climate change and called out your hypocrisy. You relentlessly troll around these forums about how the sky is falling, the world is burning, climate change will kill us all, but there you are with a veritable fleet of ICE vehicles including at least one old dirty diesel burning box. Pot meet kettle Protractor.

I remember your early appearances on the site being mainly not understanding how basic stuff works (e.g. elections) and fumbling with how to use big words

Where has all this cooker stuff come from? Did you spend a weekend on QAnon YouTube or something?

                          • @Crow K: Not even a penalty box can stop you replying to me with nonsense ad hom.

                            • -1

@tenpercent: If you think it's an ad hom to say "people who think climate change is a Big Lie are cookers" then you need a trip to the dictionary (by which I mean reading a real book, not typing the words into YouTube and watching a 90 minute Jordan Petersen video on the nature of words)

                              • @Crow K: If you genuinely think apocalyptic climate change isn't a big lie then you should probably be berating yourself Protractor for his fleet of ICE vehicles. I suspect though it's more like a cute label or badge you can wear as a sort of counterfeit pride (maybe you can get "I believe in climate change" bumper sticker and put it on the back of your dirty diesel vehicle?), and conversely a flimsy schtick you enjoy using to bash any infidels with.

                                • -1

                                  @tenpercent: Christ what a mess

It's a miracle complete sentences (albeit full of cooker logic) can emerge from that at all, really

just got the Z386ST Ryco SynTec Oil Filter thanks. have stocked up

      • I’ve used z386st many times. The filter weights heavy compared to oem Toyota filter. You can find YouTube videos about opening and checking the anti drain valve and filter material of z386st. Is there any particular reason you change oil once a year not 6 months as Toyota suggested?

        • for the 1mzfe camry i have to change every 6 months which i plan to do. 2 times for a corolla would be good too? do you know if like the camry there a option to NOT have lift up the car to unplug the drain plug?

          • @ilove: I don't like jackng up the car or driving it onto a ramp.

            • @ilove: What’s wrong with driving on ramps?

              • +1

@mapax: Come on dudeT You can't expect that much effort with a frequent 12 monthly event!

              • @mapax: scary. driving it halfway. and don't know if you going over the edge..

                • @ilove: and you halfway it hangs bended up

                  • @ilove: I don’t know what that means.

Guessing you drive auto? If it is, you could try left foot braking.

          • +1

@ilove: 1mzfe is a great engine, but suffers oil sludge issues. So definitely keep 6 months oil changes.

I have no experiences about 1zz engine

  • +3

You can't change your oil twice a year?
Exactly what's inside this filter that makes it the pinnacle?
And you do realise if it filters better, because of the medium inside, it's probably blocking quicker, reducing flow, and limiting oil at cold starts in the last part of its life.
Anyway if you find a supply buy in bulk.
Check out the Bob The Oil Guy site and see what else people use for your model car. Using the cross reference you should be able to get as good as or better.

They aren't that expensive OS (scroll down) so I doubt the $125 is based on some internal magic, that makes them better than many other good branded filters. (gimmick)

  • Z386ST Ryco SynTec Oil Filter - Just bought 3 of them shipped

    • +5

I hope they don't expie before you get to use them all.
      What was the expirey date?

      • +3

        You're terrible, Muriel!

      • I’d be worried about cardboard rot on the oil filter. I bought ryco oil filters for my Gallo 24 and the filters all had cardboard rot from their storage situation. Blew my engine!

        • +1

          Oil filter termites

        • +1

Seriously? Is this a thing? How old were the oil filters?

    • How much $$ per filter?

      • +5

More than you can afford pal

        • I was actually asking the OP how much he paid for the 3 he just ordered.

BTW, we use dunny roll filters on our fleet of Gallos. No point on over spending on the daily drivers.

          • @Protractor: Lots of jokes hey… if i had use a coupon it would of been 10 each… not 10 but cheaper

  • +2

OP - is cool you're chasing excellence BUT regular changes of normal oil/filters are proven in testing to be much better than less frequent changes using elite oil/filters.

Ryco Syntec filters are significantly better than OEM and are very affordable and obtainable.

  • +1

No one knows the Corolla engine better than Toyota. Get the Toyota one, OEM, Mann, Mahle, Ryco, Wesfil, Repco, Cooper whatever you do, service the engine often don't leave it on for one year.

  • +1

all this for an oil filter damn

    • what about the drain plug washer… i don't want to make a thread about that if I don't need to.
