I'd be more inclined to go for a Ffalcon 50" for $399 for an $20 more, which has Google TV built in and is 4K. Also has WiFi Built in and the same number of HDMI Inputs.

Plus, you don't have to battle any other Aldi customers for the limited stock that stores might get.

    • Not disagreeing with you as I know nothing about these two TVs, but most (all?) smart TVs have wifi now

      • Yes, most do. But this Bauhn description doesn't say that it does. It says it has a LAN/Ethernet port, but nothing about WiFi.

If I was the Aldi product description writer, I would be mentioning things like WiFi. So it either does and they haven't included it. Or it actually doesn't have WiFi.

yeh fair enough but I'd be incredibly surprised fi it didn't have wifi - afaik all these smart TVs are now monetised via advertising in some manner, and wifi is critical to accessibility.

Also - Aldi listings are usually quite bare, they tend to only mention really important features

I agree, but just makes me wonder as the description mentions nothing.

I would say that WiFi is an important feature. People generally rely on having WiFi for everything, I wouldn't really care about Ethernet/LAN. Look at laptops now, very few actually come with ethernet ports and you need a USB adaptor if you actually want ethernet connectivity.

its $378.11 on Jb Business so cheaper than the aldi deal

      • Even better!

Cheap TVs can be an absolute nightmare to use though. They just don't have the specs to run the apps smoothly. Have you used this model?

      • +2

Yes. I have a 55" of the Ffalcon and very happy with it.

This is exactly why I'm a fan of Hisense's VIDAA Interface. Their apps are butter and the boot times are comparable to a 'dumb' TV.

can someone recommend a nice slim mobile TV stand? Something for bedroom but we can't keep the tv in front of the bed as it backs onto an open space.

You really can't go wrong with Selbys products:

      https://www.selby.com.au/tv-brackets-stands/tv-stands.html

They stand by what they sell too; I've had a few issues where their suppliers misrepresented some of their more niche products, and zero argument I was sent return stickers, and got full refunds.

      • Thanks, out of curiosity, what happened with your purchase?

        • +2

Nothing of note; all my purchases have been smooth sailing; proper tax invoices, ABN and business name matched etc.

I also mentioned my after sales support experience, above (it was good).
          No complaints.

    • You mean a TV floor stand? I recently bought this model from Amazon, it's not the cheapest but you definitely get your money's worth, the build quality is great and it's well designed and easy to put together.

      • Yes something like that…is it sturdy enough? I worry kids will pull from behind and it will topple over them. Hence I need something I can put away safely but easily bring it back out to watch in bed.

        • +1

It's perfectly sturdy for its intended purpose. I don't know if it would survive kids pulling on it, that's a whole other ball game.

Update: another Amazon review mentioned that if you pull the stand backwards, it will topple over easily. I just tried it and can confirm, it will quite easily fall backwards if you pull back on the stand. So probably not great for curious kids.

You'd need to place something very heavy on the base platform to keep it firmly stable.

honestly just wait for this deal again https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/902373 and get amazon fire stick 4k or something similar.. i am done buying smart tv the inbuilt OS is terrible even on high end brand tvs

    • This actually makes perfect sense. I use Fire Sticks on most of my TV's. I do use the built in OS on my LG, but its clunky compared to a fire stick. Great suggestion.

      • ive got 2 of these one in my bedroom and one in the kitchen, I seriously cant believe why I spend 2k almost 3k on sony bravi tv. This dont even cost $300 and have the performance just as good if not better and in an instance when you need it on.
