Rocking the 90's with analog speedo, manual handbrake, zero cupholders and storage, 2025 model but at 2021 prices! Whats not to love about this brilliantly competitive combo!

  • Has anyone ever bought a car because ozb showed a deal?

    • +6

Based on the number of upvotes on Chinese cars here, you'd think everyone here has two in the garage.

      • +6

It’s a good idea to have a parts car.

      • Probably buying off aliexpress

      Umm… Yes. Skoda Kodiaq.

    • +5

Yep. MG4 in October last year. Another ozbargain win for me

    • +1

I'm pretty sure that Mahindra deal broke Ozb records. At that price, there'll definately have been decent amount of sales.

      • +2

Interesting! Looks like there are buyers indeed for car deals. I was genuinely curious

  • +4

    Strong, reliable, and hassle-free car

    Haval > this

    • Found the Chinese

Even the Chinese avoid Chinese cars.

  • What is the RRP?

  • +2

I work at a car rental company, we have hundreds of these things. They're horrible cars.

    • +2

      details?

      • +2

The head units constantly stop working, USB ports literally fall out of place into the dashboard. Panelwork is flimsy as hell, so if you damage the car it looks 10 times worse than a Toyota for instance. Everything feels really tinny. Lots of battery issues. Parts are very expensive. Paint is very expensive. Id just stay away from Suzuki, the build quality is honestly worse than most Chinese cars and you'll pay more.

        • +2

Yeah because trash the shit out of them. Plenty of of vitara with 170-250k no issues.

          • +2

@Atomik17: These vitara have the M16 motors in them which Suzuki have been using since around 2005. They are rock solid and happily run to 300k

            • @too_much_boost: The Suzuki kizashi uses the J24b engine, which is amazing (2.4L I4 NA) but the problem is not the engine, it's the CVT transmission

    • +1

a lot of rental cars are terrible

my local is full of MGs… easy smart choice for them… 10yr warranty, run them as much as possible them simsmetal

most visitors just want the cheapest wheels while over here

      • +2

This. My last rental in Australia was a MG SUV. It was about 6 months old and although it drove ok, it was already falling apart.

    • +2

Probably the base version. I have turbo version and a cx-5. Suzuki turbo engine is great. But tech is not from 2025. If you are just after a reliable, no frills car, suzuki is great

      • +1

if you driven anything remotely 'nice' you know suzukis are cheap feeling and skint and have massive nvh

that's not a bad thing, you expect that in cheapo cars

but a mazda3 or cx3/cx30 wipes the floor with them

the question i always ask if how come chinese shit like tiggo4 and jolion can bundled in a turbo four for $25k

and suzuki sell 1.5 n/a piles for $35k

suzuki is taking the piss but people keep buying them so good on them

        • Chery is simply buying market share. It’s not a new concept. CarExpert reported today that Chery is already wanting to move upmarket and increase pricing.

          • @Brick Tamland: doesnt everyone want to 'buy market share' by 'selling cars for less' as a new player and they all want to move 'upmarket and increase price' lol?

you are describing the equivalent of 'buy low sell high'

            here's a thing

you can easily work out how much their cars in china and then you can work out how much the uplift is here… you can then also work out how much they sell per month per model and then work out why their prices change…

  • Toyoto > this

    • What's a Toyoto?

      • +2

The severed toe of a Toyota

      • Toyota losing its edge?

    • Toyota has a lot of involvement in Suzuki. Toyota literally owns a big chunk of Suzuki

  • +4

We have 2 x swifts, Daughters is 10 years, Mrs is 5.
    0 issues. Bought both new.

    • How's the speed… Suitable to overtake on the motorway?

I was looking for one but ended up not buying, rather bought a turbocharged Skoda that has a similar engine to the swift but if course, extra oompf for the motorway.

      • +1

lol nah same as horse and cart

  • If you negotiate hard you should be able to get a Turbo Vitara for around the same.

  • -1

Manual in 2025? It is not a sports car.

    • +1

they probably imported too many manuals and they are now cluttering the yard by burning up floor finance

    • +1

Surprises you to know that cheap gutless cars used to have manual as standard as autos were laggy and slow.

    • +6

Not all manual cars are "sports" cars. It's provides that extra level of control (and fun) on lower powered engines. I tend to drive standard hatchbacks that range from 1.5 to 2.0L engines and I find manual transmission much more engaging that an automatic. Been driving for some 19+ yrs now and have only ever driven a manual. I do sometimes drive my wife's 2012 Suzuki Swift Auto and I honestly believe the car would have been better paired with a 5sp manual.

I got 2021 model Vitara, 1.6 (non-turbo) and got it for half the new price from a dealer, only 25,000 km on the odometer so It was basically brand new. It’s a great, reliable, and economical car for school runs. I even did a road trip from Melbourne to Sydney, and it didn’t miss a beat.
It’s a cheap, low-maintenance car. I honestly don’t understand why people compare it to Mazdas (which are more expensive to maintain). To be honest, I test drove the CX-3 before buying this, and I didn’t like how it felt, more like a small hatchback! I also hated the awkward side mirror zoom of cx3s

The Suzuki Vitara, on the other hand, doesn’t have those issues. It’s a smooth ride, and the higher driver seating position is something I really prefer. Suzuki could’ve done a better job with road noise insulation and the door closing mechanism. Mazda definitely looks more “premium” and has better speakers, but all my mechanic friends warned me to stay away from it due to high maintenance costs.

    • 14k damn.

Yeah add some sound deadening to the car and it will feel a bit more solid.

      • I'm finding it very hard to believe he got it for $14k with that amount of km. Was it a manual perhaps?

  • Oh, yee harrra, I'm taking me carra,
The pride of the fleet, and all she meets,
    The flagship Vitara!

  • I am tempted to downvote a $35k Jimny as a deal, but the Vitara is a good option as a daily.

  • When I google "Jimny Australia", I found the following.
Is the Jimny discontinued in Australia?
The Suzuki Jimny three-door automatic is not currently available for order in Australia due to a stop-sale caused by high demand and production backlogs.
Suzuki works to fulfill existing orders. The three-door Jimny is also facing potential discontinuation due to new Australian Design Rules (ADR) for autonomous emergency braking (AEB) systems, which the current three-door model may not fully comply with.

  • Clearing 2023 models, they should be 22/24k at most. 1.6 manual was prices at 29k in 2023, so have been sat round for 2 years very slowly depreciating.

  • Most of OzB will be disappointed that this is not another CCP built eee vee

  • I opened the pages and saw a Swift is $35K WTF….. who would pay 35K for a Swift?

    • -1

yea that's ridiculous even for hybrid hatchback.. they ruined it's shape too.. older 2012 model looks more roomier

  • -2

    Manual - wow !!
Can be used with kids to feel good for 5 minutes and some bragging

  • Why do Jimmy drivers always seem to be self consciously 'quirky' types?

    • I think a lot of Jimnys are driven by city-dwelling professionals who fancy the idea of 'getting out into nature' on the weekends but ultimately never take it anywhere you couldn't get with a Camry.

To be fair, my dad used to get his 91 Holden Apollo (AKA Camry) up and back some rough as guts tracks on the West Coast of Tassie 🤣
