@freeb1e4me: They might be taking too many lead supplements which is leading to a drop in IQ

                    • @freeb1e4me: you're one of those fake news people aren't you? even when presented with facts you just keep putting your finger in your little ear singing nanana and come up with 50 reasons why facts, aren't in fact, facts.

whether it's available now is irrelevant. they had a lot of uptake that they are barely able to fill orders. if you know anything about solar rebates, which you clearly don't, you would know going up on kwh from 30-50kwh adds very little to price due to how it's structured. there are plenty of other budget systems going for the same price with other providers if you got a quote. the first link on google shows an offer that's even cheaper for $5.5k https://tinyurl.com/3rzws6xb

in either case, 5, 6 or 7k is very different to 44k which was the point I was making before you came in with that rather pointless interjection

                        • @freeb1e4me: There's no shortage of ignorant people on the internet who is wrong with confidence

Battery price per KWH decreases as the kwh increases but the rebate is linear per kwh - ie. per kwh price will drop the bigger the capacity. the federal rebate is applied per kwh - ie. ~$344 per effective kwh up to 50. the bigger the battery, the more rebate - hence going up from 30 kwh to 50kwh will usually mean a 10-20% increase rather than a 60% increase if you just count the KWH

the site I linked shows this by breakdown the price vs rebate - for a 50kwh system the total price is $22k with $16.5k rebate = 5.5k, whereas a 30kwh system is $15579 with rebate of $10800 which is also 5.5k

  • China retail price is about $27000

    • RHD conversion, imports, testing, dealer markup etc.

Go import one yourself for $27K and do the conversion and let us know about how smart you are.

      • Which thing doesn't exist in China?

        • Not a thing as such but people: big suckers.

    • Yes, but the Chinese domestic market also has ridiculously intense competition due to overproduction and having many players in a market that is now keeping their wallets very tight indeed.

Chinese manufacturers are instead looking to make up their margins internationally, which doesn't appear to be going well for some of them.

      • +1

All manufacturers look to make up margin outside of their home country. All of them in Australia.

    • You can buy a BMW X5 in the US for $50000, guess how much it costs here in Australia

  • Honestly im not against Chinese cars but there is 'too many' new brands entering the market for a market as small as Australia

this reason alone i wouldnt gamble on any of them as half of them probably wont exist in 10 years - i do think BYD will shine but that just my opinion

    • oversaturation is real guys be careful. Every time new tech or new product there a lot of new entrants and 90% of them dissapear

    • -1

True for brands like Deepal but LM may last longer with the backing of Stellantis. They are doing well abroad. Other brands like Xpeng, BYD etc are very big to fail. GWM and Chery are massive here as well now.

      For example LM:

In March 2025, Leapmotor achieved record-breaking sales of 12,000 units for its C10 SUV model in China, and surpassed 100,000 cumulative deliveries since its launch, according to Stellantis.com. The company's overall sales in March reached 37,095 units, a 154% increase year-over-year, according to Stellantis.com. Leapmotor also had a strong first half of 2025, with cumulative sales reaching 221,664 units, surpassing other NEV start-ups in China, according to Stellantis.com.

On the other hand, brands like Citroen are big outside AU but failed here.

  • and Apple CarPlay / Android Auto are missing.

Not a big deal really … however … $44,500 feels like a real big issue …

  • -1

Not sharp enough. I feel Leapmotor is a decent product and has the backing of Stellantis. A lot of Maserati engineers have helped tuned the REEV etc.

But they have to make the pricing sharper and fix basic like like no Android Auto and carplay. If you don't give what the customers want, you will have 3 digit sales.

Make pricing sharper like $45000 driveaway or even $39999 driveaway. Unless you do something to stand out and create a sensation, it will die a slow death.

  • …..reaches for more popcorn.

  • I think this cheap EV cars around 45K drive away is a good deal breaker for Uber drivers or who drives more then 3K per month.

You will save substantial amount on fuel over the time and don't consider resale value after 8/10 years has recovered more the amount you buy fuel at the current price.

Also, a few EVs even throw in a free one-year charge facility.

I agree there are a few who want to stand on the fence and keep shouting, but then you have to evaluate what is the best option for you.
