From @EpicNewsroom:
The Epic Games Store and Fortnite will come to iOS in Australia! An Australian court just found that Apple and Google abuse their control over app distribution and in-app payments to limit competition. There are 2,000+ pages of findings that we’ll need to dig into to fully understand the details. This is a WIN for developers and consumers in Australia!

  • I wonder if this also means that Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and Playstation also need to let Epic have their own stores to avoid the 30% cut those platform holders take.

This is a massive win for consumers in Australia.

It’s not really about epic at all but about the 30% cut that every developer must pay on every digital purchase you make through an app on iPhone or android.

This covers Netflix, Spotify, Kindle ebooks, and thousands of other apps where Apple and Google just straight up take 30% for the privilege of using their phones… about time we told these US mega companies to get lost.

And developers are forbidden from telling customers that Apple/ Google takes the 30%. Just compare YouTube premium prices on AppStore v on the internet. Google won’t eat the 30% cut.
Similarly, Apple also wants a 30% cut from Patreon. Patreon itself only takes 10%.

Epic can't even make a decent launcher for windows. Why don't they spend their billions of dollars fixing that crapfest first?

Like they don't even have an official "move game folder " function. You have to manually copy the game install folder in file explorer, start a new install in a new location, pause it, copy the original folder over the top replacing files, resume the new install then it finally verifies the copied folder contents in the new location.

Like wtf… why is this so difficult in 2025? Steam is light years ahead.

    • Steam doesn't give away free games

  • Is this a first? Any other nations had sucess with this?

Hopefully they can get Xbox, PlayStation & Nintendo to also allow third party stores.

With the push by these companies for digital distribution it would be bad if no third party can compete for pricing.

We already see the no disc drive consoles from Sony & MS, imagine if next generation there's no option at all for physical games.

  • I love American companies fighting each other.
