If you’re on half the lines in the north you would have struggled to get +10 trips because of the hurstbridge line closures for the north east link and the bloody derailment at clifton hill 😂

    • scummy innit

    • +4

If you didn't tag on because you're forced to use a rail replacement bus, then your trip technically doesn't exist in Myki.

      • +2

Can't really complain about free trips being late though.

        • +5

This is always the cherry on top for me when it comes to replacement buses on my line. After wasting an extra hour from the buses, I inevitably still have to pay full-fare just to go like the four extra stops that weren't impacted. Hurts every time.

          • @Castcore: I doubt the AOs will still be there on a broken line. Seems like a big hassle for them.

        • You can when you're still paying taxes for the broken system, and your commute time is doubled for months on end

  • Damn counted mine and it was 9 days haha :(

    • Yeah I reckon I didn’t make the 10 either by a long shot :(

    • Same

    • School holidays for half of that period too which kicks me below 10.

Love that fines are given freely and without easy recompense.

But claiming back a single fare after they fail to meet their legal requirements which they also set themselves is a multi page website that still isn't instant.

God forbid they auto credit active passes. Bloody scum.

    • Almost like fines are given freely by a different organisation

      • Fines are handed out by Metro staff given powers on behalf of the transport authority.

Yes government processes them, but I have no issue with that part.

The newer fines system is actually pretty great, given the context of situation.

Or impossible to claim even when eligible with a Google Pay Myki.

      • Is that true? I tried anyway

        • I had a service cancellation on way to dentist a couple months ago, was supposed to get Uber fair in credit, wasn't able to claim as I don't have a MyKi self-managed account attached to my Myki.

You get nada if you don't have a regular Myki account, Google Pay doesn't count.

Other states will offer every other thing except for permanent 50c fares lol

    • Victoria is essentially bankrupt until they find new ways to bring in even more taxes

      • I get that, but when you also have +1M people per decade, you can't afford to not spend on infrastructure whether you can afford it or not.

  • +4

    This is not a deal.

  • +15

Laughs in tropical Queensland with 50c fares 🐠🍹 ⛱️

    • One of the best things they did for those of us forced to attend the office. Just wonder where they are making up the shortfall though 🤔

    • Wish they'd do 50c fares in Melb.

Ahh well, can't have it all down here.

      • -4

You're kidding right? Only heard about this 50cents fare this year and it is just completely unsustainable for this sort of country.

Introducing it to Vic just means they'll introduce one new tax to cover for it. There's already a new fire service levy in place with a congestion levy being considered. No thanks to the 50 cent fares. QLD can keep their stupid ideas

QLD can keep their stupid ideas

The bad weather in Melbourne must be getting to you. I think you need to take a holiday in Brisbane lol

I've had some of the most horrific public transport experiences the past month (sometimes not PTV's fault, e.g. trespassers/police operations)

    • +9

The "trespasser on the line" stuff is absolutely ridiculous - completely shafting the line, and literally holding up thousands of people on multiple trains, the disruption is absolutely colossal.

And for what ? Who cares if some (profanity) is trespassing ? Just lean on the horn as the train approaches 🤷

I am also strong believer in the Theory of evolution

        • Everyone is until their partner/child/sibling/parent/friend suffers from depression and has suicidal ideations. Then suddenly it's the government's fault again.

      • There are night crews in St Johns that would probably differ in opinion. These are the guys cleaning up body parts before the peak hour passengers see and feel bad about life.

      • It's most likely the same sort of drug addled cretins who also clog up the whole CBD making disgusting messes, smoking ice, and somehow being totally ignored by police and authorities there too. They don't know what to do with them.

Can someone help me understand what this question means - Claim up to the end of the month in which the results are published? Do I select Yes or No?

  • +12

    Nice try ATO
I work from home every day of the week as you well know from my tax return

    • Sure 😉 we all do 😉 😉

  • +15

For god sake, shouldn't this be automatically credited back to Myki cards that are eligible? They have all the details in their system!

  • +1

I delete my digital Myki after every third trip…. Don't think I'll be able to claim the free travel day 🙃

    • +3

You get your free travel day every 3rd day.

    • +4

Oh no, that means you lose your balance of negative four dollars. How will you ever get it back?

    • +1

What do you load it up with to get the best return?

      • +1

        $11

  • My line was impacted by the train derailment at Clifton Hill so I may not have used the full 10 days in July.

  • Just made 10 here. When I submitted it I got an instant email saying my claim had been approved. Back in the day when I used to have a yearly pass I think in one year I ended up with almost $100 of credit on the card due to these claims. In these days of WFH my guess is pass numbers are much lower than they used to be.

    • That was quick. I submitted my claim last night and still have not received anything.

  • +5

If they can check whether a card has been touched on 10 times, then they can, and should, automatically apply the credit to every card that met that criteria.

    This claim process is rubbish.

    • Absolutely.

I had raised the same with them in the past and I was told it cannot be done due to privacy issues. Card issuer and Metro train service as different providers and hence cannot share data due to privacy.

  • Cool - a buy 10, get one free deal on public transport.

  • I tried to make a claim since I go into the office at least 3 times a week, but i got KB, I dont get their clause

Compensation claims are required to meet the following eligibility criteria, as outlined on metrotrains.com.au:

a claim must be made in the month in which the results are published.

What dates are these results published? Tried googling quickly but I could find the answer.

    • The month after the performance results relate to - hence why you can claim in August for the month of July.

    • I think the results published right now are for July 2025 - Metro Trains failed their Reliability target for July

What did you choose for this question on the claim form - Claim up to the end of the month in which the results are published?

    • Same. Got the - SORRY, your claim does not meet the eligibility criteria

Don't know why it's not working. It's August, results are published the next month. It's not like you can apply for July when July results aren't published right?

PTV website shows my myki got used 20+ days in July.

I did the application online and there is only entry for "Has your myki been touched on metro trains 10 days of July?"
      and the myki number.

  • Oooh wow buy 10 get 1 free on an overpriced fare!

  • Trams and Trains are free anyways.. just avoid the gumbies

  • if they do the same for the bus' reliability, everyone would get dozen of free ride every month

  • +1

Imagine if Sydney Trains also have this policy, they would literally be offering free travel day for every months

  • Can they credit digital google wallet myki?

    Tried anyway
