      They were absolutely state of the art when released though. Caldigit is THE brand in thunderbolt accessories.

      Whether its worth $189 or not probably depends on if you favour stability or features. A new TB4 dock from an unknown brand is probably similar but if you want a well known brand and rock solid performance I can see the value in this. This still supports Gigabit and Dual 4K outputs so it's not like TB4 offers a much different experience for most users

        Should be "THE brand" in TB accessories for Macs, as their TS series docks are mostly designed with Mac users in mind.

        TS3 Plus is indeed quite old and can't catch up with many of the TB4 products, especially given TB4 chipsets are essentially "TB hubs", given more flexibility in real life usage. Though I like their Element Hub series better and is using the Element Hub TB4 myself. Just enough expandability when in reality I don't need that many ports.

        One thing good for CalDigit TS docks is that built-in network interface is attached on PCIe instead of USB. Much better stability and performance. But since it's on PCIe, it won't work if host is connected through USB protocol. Not an issue for TS3 (as it doesn't support USB fallback mode anyway) but is something to be minded if docks are shared on hot-desks in an enterprise environment. Also that's why you see many enterprise and Windows-oriented TB docks having USB ethernet and DisplayLink ports - they're all USB attached and always work on all devices.

    At this price you’d do better to get a refurb TB4 dock that pops up for sale for less than this from time to time.

    This is overpriced.

    using it at work righnow, not really stable and so hot, the included cable is subpar at best. Recommend buying a used lenovo dock much more better

    Based on the specs and the datasheet

    • DisplayPort only supports DP 1.2 (so 4K/60Hz max). DP 1.4 would have been better. The fact that it is DP 1.2 suggests it could be an older Thunderbolt 3 chipset.
    • The so called 5K/6K support is through the Thunderbolt 3 passthrough so it is designed for a Thunderbolt monitor. Unclear whether you can use a USB-C/DP Alt-mode based dongle on that.
    • It's unlikely this dock supports USB4 enclosure (because a Thunderbolt firmware update is required and given there are Thunderbolt 4 AICs and docks on older Thunderbolt firmware, it's better to assume this device won't support USB4 (ASMedia) chipset enclosure properly. Thunderbolt 4 enclosures should work though.

    got a same refurbished model on eBay with $99 including shipping from US. It works as intended but this doesn’t support HDR just FYI.
