Looking for a mesh router and I came across this. Seems to be much cheaper than anywhere else; other places charge this much for a 2 pack, and and a 3 pack is more like $599. No 6GHz Wi-Fi but otherwise seems well-featured with 2.5Gbe ports and reviews are good. Also supports ethernet backhaul for better performance but it will take up one of the ethernet ports (obviously) and there are only two ethernet ports on each Deco BE25.

It's also on their eBay store, and if you have eBay Plus you get free postage.

The only drawback, that stopped me from buying it, is that setup can only be done with the Deco app which requires a TP-Link account. Others may not mind this or even prefer the remote administration feature.

How does this compare to the deco x50? Similar price points but not too sure about performance

For a little more, you're far better off getting the XE75 (assuming you or someone you know has commercial access): https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/905888

  • Would these be a good upgrade from a Netgear orbi wifi 5. Getting around 450mbps on a 1gb connection atm on wifi. Would I get a faster speed if I upgraded to these? Or the xe75?

I have XE75 Pros, love them. 2.5G output is great when hooked up to a 2.5 GB switch as well. Great for moving stuff around to and from a NAS.

  • Wondering if these will connect directly to fttp nbn, or would require a seperate router?

TP-Link Deco has a built-in router. Plugin one Deco to the nbn FTTP NTD box.

      • I'll give it a go because i have good speed at the router wifi, however the deco gives much lower speed, so might cut out some equipment to see what's wrong

These models aren’t NBN compatible according to https://www.tp-link.com/au/nbn-compatible-device/

I have some and just pointed them to my old router instead to still get the WiFi benefit.

      • Most users plugin one Deco router to the nbn FTTP, HFC and Fixed Wireless NTD box or nbn FTTC NCD box.

Configure the Deco's as wireless access points if you use a mini PC router for example.

        Yes they are:

        FTTP/FTTC/HFC/UFB Deco M5 (AU/US) 1.0 or above

Anyway there's no special compatibility required for NBN, any router will work. You just need to plug the NTD/modem into the WAN port of your router. It won't really matter where the WAN connection is coming from, it's all ethernet. The only other factor is whether PPPoE is required, but I've yet to encounter a router that didn't support this in the last 25 years.

        • My bad, wrong model. But the rest of my comment stands.

To my great surprise I recently discovered depending on the ISP this may not be so plug and play. Aside from PPPoE, some providers (iiNet and I'm guessing the TPG stable) need specific VLANs configured. I'm pretty sure that this router will do it, but it's very puzzling when you plug everything in and it doesn't "just work:"

NBN FTTP should come with a modem already, all you need to do is plug in your router to start beaming that signal around your house, which at that point is just a regular network.. that's all I needed to do after getting my upgrade last week

  • Might be worth checking good guys commercial. These are usually pretty cheap on there.

  • how does one go get good guys commercial?
