Seems like a decent deal. Sub 900 isn't the lowest RTX 5070, but is fairly decent IMO. No afterpay required or ebay plus, just 10% off flat with code.

Credit to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/920379 for the coupon. (RX 9070 non xt is about 3-7% faster on average per techpowerup, with a 16GB VRAM buffer), however this 5070 is about ~9% cheaper. Depends what you're after! The AMD card is also larger.

*Eligibility. This offer is available to all eBay customers, but this item cannot be delivered to addresses in Northern Territory or WA Remote.

Probably rather pay the extra for 16gb to be honest.

spending over $800 and not getting 16GB+ of Vram just feels bad

    • +3

unfortunately so does spending another $500 for +4gb vram and an essentially imperceptible performance boost lol. decisions, decisions…

From the benchmarking I've seen on Hardware Unboxed, most of their games seem to chew ~12GB VRAM. Seems to put this at borderline gimped already

yeh not shocking there since consoles give the devs 12gig to play with and most games are console first, i think your better off with a 5060ti or 9060XT (16gig version) and save yourself 100's or if you can save up go to a 9070 or an entry level 9070XT…

Their examples largely involve path tracing and max settings. There's footage out there of Indiana Jones running fine at 1440p with path tracing, you just have to turn a few settings down marginally, some of which have almost no visual impact.

If they'd nailed their foliage rendering, it would work fine, as per Doom the Dark Ages. Interested to see if next month's update makes any inroads given they're optimising path tracing with RTX Hair.

      • Oh thank the heavens! RTX Hair, our saving grace.
        Praise almighty Jensen Huang!

        • A shortcut that saves processing power and better renders lighting for fibres and strands has enormous implications for material and hair rendering.

As we climb out of the uncanny valley, you're not going to magically find radical performance and image quality jumps without some elbow grease.

RTX Skin is another big solution for subsurface scattering of light that will presumably expand out to teeth, fixing another difficult final hurdle.

This should be the price for a 16GB 5070Ti GPU.

Or at minimum a 5070 Super! Don't disagree. Just posting the 'deal' for those it may interest heh.

    • Ahh that good feeling to have snapped it up for $680

So you think a binning of a $150ish USD chip with $100ish parts, various forms of which get sold by 3-4 layers of vendors for profit, the lowest layer of which is a chip design companies, the latter with 36,000 employees and both of which have a raft of world-leading engineers and researchers should charge for a net profit margin of 50%?

      Sit down.

16gb is really what you need these days, anything less and many future games will have problems.

  • +4

i get 16gb is better than 12gb but the option is price to performance 5070 12gb is still better and will last longer than xx60 16gb cards.

Depends entirely on the resolution you're on. FHD 12gb will be fine for ages. QHD is a bit borderline, and 4k you're pretty much hitting issues today.

Also depends a bit on the settings you like to play at.
