Melbourne Rideshare Club Insurance Giving Me The Runaround

After being involved with an accident and getting hit by another car, I got sent a claim number to "Melbourne ride-share club".

As my car is twenty years old, I only have 3rd party insurance. I have repeatedly called them and every time I call, they seem confused about what they are meant to do.

I did go to a panel beater to get a quote for the repair and sent the quote to them, to the email I was told on the phone to send it to. They did not reply, I needed to call again to get them to look at it, they said they would move my conversation to 'priority'.

Now they need to wait for an 'assessor report' from someone inside their company, and they cannot tell me when that will come. It has been a month since the accident happened, and my car is driveable but quite a mess.

Has anyone dealt with this company before? Is there anything I can do to make them actually do their job?
I suspect they are hoping I just go away, does anyone have suggestions what I should do next.

    Time to look up wreckers

Send a letter of demand to the person who hit you.

    • Then follow up with taking them to VCAT/NCAT/etc. when they don't respond or pay up.

Those companies are just full of empty promises.

If you are hit by another car and the accident is not your fault then give your own insurance company a miss.

Go the a panel beater for your repairs and let them sort it out with the other parties insurance company.

      That's not how it works.

      • Yes it is. Want a bet?

      • Funny because that is exactly what I did, and the panel beaters even arranged for a replacement vehicle for the duration of the repairs at no cost !!

I have done this before, there are panel beaters that have business relationships with a legal firm, and they will sort it all out. I do suspect it will cost the other insurance company more, but easier for you.

    A car hit you.

You have 3rd party insurance on your car.

    Accident was not your fault.

If you have proof of this, do you get any repairs to your car?

If other car's fault, I think they have to use their insurance, not yours?

    What's this about?

    It was sent to you?

Who are these people? Related to you or the other car?

    only have 3rd party insurance.

Are they supposed to do anything? You said accident was not your fault, I think your 3rd party only gets involved when you're at fault.

Sent it to whom? Their insurer?

Are you entitled to a rental car?

Has anyone dealt with this company before?

Too often, in a variety of fields.

Is there anything I can do to make them actually do their job?

At a minimum, I'd flick this up to the ombudsman.

If I had the courage, I'd also issue a letter of demand and put the other party on notice m

Brains trust here may know if you're entitled to a hire car, or where you go to find out.

Do you have a rough idea of how much repairs may cost? Whilst I believe you should receive recognition, you need to be aware of what those repairs may turn out to be a) a car restored to previous condition or b) a car determined to be written off.

Some of the remedies you may wish to pursue could become cost prohibitive, even if successful.

What do you want the outcome to be and how much of your time and money are you prepared to spend?

    Melbourne Rideshare Club Insurance

There is no such thing. This is not insurance.

This explains what it is - https://www.insurancebusinessmag.com/au/news/auto-motor/are-…

Check your own coverage. Some have a payment if the other driver doesn't have insurance - which clearly they don't.

  • I only have 3rd party insurance.

    This is the problem here…
