  • How do these things actually work? Is this a device I use a sim or esim in or does it log into local wifi networks and give you A private network ?

    • +3

It can work like a normal router and create a wifi network using an ethernet connection.

Or it can re share a wifi network with a new ssid/password (either to simplify login so you don't have to enter a new password on each device, or it can share a connection with multiple devices when the hotel only allows 1 device to be connected)

Or using USB tethering with your phone, it can share your 4G/5G connection (although with newer cellphones you can use ethernet tethering and just use the normal router setting which will be more reliable)

It doesn't have any sim/esim ability on its own.

    • Yes. It lets you use Ethernet or another wifi connection and makes a private lan for your that you can do lots of stuff with like use a VPN or ad blocker or change DNS or bypass device limits ect. That's what I do with the top model so I'm not sure how capable this one is but I see it has the same features. Esim and sim no. That's one thing I wish they would add to their next flagship or make a dedicated esim device because the esim router is too expensive and has other features that are needed when using a better model.

    Which bank?

Good deal but these are getting a bit dated.
I've got a couple and they were great. Wouldn't buy them now though.
Also, the Shadows a few dollars cheaper for essentially the same functions.

Spend a bit more and get a Slate or Beryl model.

These little mango units are great if you near very low power and tiny size though

    • Agree. If you want to install new plugins, 16M flash rom is too small. I tried.

Read the comments from the previous time this was posted before purchasing. This is a good device for what it is, but it's not good for most use cases now days (eg, it's a poor travel router)

  • I just got the slate and set it up as a travel vpn router, works so well! Love how small these things are ahah.

  • Too slow

  • How do i use this and say, setup a VPN and watch Netflix AU when I'm traveling overseas or is it possible?

  • please don't buy this, it's super slow doing anything in the web interface, and the wifi repeater performance is also very bad. (No plugged into ethernet)
E.g on wifi getting 100mbps download directly from main router, but through the mt300n it's about 15mbps on a good day

  • Had three of these, they last about 3 weeks before they start to get really REALLY slow

  • This only has 802.11b/g/n with no way to force it to only use the faster 802.11n.
This means in reality you can only get the 802.11g speeds which is 54mbps, no matter how fast the input bandwidth is.

I plugged it in directly to my router using Ethernet (500mbps) and when connecting to my new iPhone it only gets around 30mbps.

Its okay for what it is priced at, but don't expect anything fast.

  • So this can possibly be used as a main modem right?
