    wow, they're still making these?
    nice deal.

    • Yep. Pretty much the same with Razer and Logitech. DeathAdder has existed forever with little change, i.e. Deathadder Essential.

      • Makes sense. I mean how much more can mouse technology really improve?

        • A lot actually. Check out Optimum Tech’s new mouse and you’ll be amazed haha

Thanks Ozb, finally bought one after going "I DON'T NEED THIS" the last 19 times it was posted.

Replace my "spare" Arctic 1 that i've had or years.

  • There is one cheaper, $76 before discount

  • How is the quality of the coating? I loved my Marshall set until they started getting mange (headband and cups) and later the wires at the cups became frayed. Very disappointing.

    • +1

Had mine for daily driver gaming headphones for the last few years. They sit on my desk and don't travel. They still look like new. Ear cups could probably do with a wash as they will absorb some oil from your skin, but YouTube has instructions on how to remove and clean.

  • Hi team,

have a quick question, how are these compared to the WH-1000XM4. I know the price range of both products is completely different but I have those headphones and I was wondering if these are comparable maybe I can give these a try also and see how they go. Thanks.

I am aware that these are not wireless and that they don't really advertise as noise cancelling.

Thanks again to anyone who can answer the question.

    • +3

Never used wh-1000xm4 but these are a completely different product. SHP9500 are an open backed headphone (i.e. noise leaks out so others can hear what you're listening to). Due to being open backed they are far from being noise cancelling, and you'll be able to clearly hear what's going on around you, at least if you're listening at low to moderate volume.

    • +2

As @combatant said already, completely different products. One is meant to stay at home and never leave the house, the other with its ANC is meant for travel and on the go

Sound quality wise, these Phillips will sound infinitely better (I use the XM4s on a weekly basis and they don't sound very good anyway). But they also have absolutely no noise isolation, and will let out more sound than let in.

    • +3

I've got both and use both fairly frequently, XM4 for commute and this for office. Sound wise it's definitely more open and clear, and yes open back means you can hear everything around you and vise versa. Comfort wise i'd say if you're just gonna sit at a desk, 9500 is way better compared to xm4: my ears gets to breath, the ear cups are massive, top pads are bigger and the clamp pressure is very much lighter (some say it's too light, not me). If you just need a wired headphone around and does not care about sound insulation at all (like, it's essentially just little speakers hanging off your head) then go for it.

would have to know what you're looking to use them for. as you know, no noise cancelling and these headphones are primarily to listen to music (and possibly game, as others in this post have attested to).
they're over-ears, and, from memory/a quick look, open back which means they'll have a very different sound to your sony's. Sony, especially from the XM3 up, are known for their base, and a small part of that is due to close backs, but a lot is due to tuning etc. Without trying to get too complicated, the phillips will give you a different feel about what you're listening to. You're more likely to be able to hear different instruments, different parts of a band or even a drum kit, whereas the sony's might not have that. (and yes I'm aware people will be arguing about that until the cows come home :-))

this is why it comes down to what you're wanting to listen to and how you're wanting to listen to it… and the argument might well be made that you can get better sounding earphones that are wireless for around the same price as opposed to these… but if you're wanting to begin a long, wonderful, expensive road into headphone land for audio purposes only, there's worse places to start - these headphones have been around a long time for a reason.

      • Thanks for the insight, especially the last paragraph that was really good advice, much appreciated.

        • +1

no probs - headphones/audio are complicated and advice, in a forum like this, can take many forms :-) I've benefitted a lot over the years from people who have been helpful to me. My overall suggestion would be, if it weren't for the price, to try and listen to the Philips and see if you like them for your use purpose, or alternatively order them from a local place (like amazon, which I know isn't "local") with a good returns policy.
These are the earphones I was thinking of - https://amzn.asia/d/7sQ7fpr - and a review that explains why they might be good - https://youtu.be/lT7oMKZJWVg particularly because of their low price tag

    • This is yet an another headphone, nothing special, made by a band name used to be popular now owned by some Chinese manufacturer. And WH-1000XM4 is something different.

  • Is it good to be used with electrical drum?

    The classic

I have a set, you can get upgraded ear muffs which really improves comfort.

  • +1

Isn't the newer Fiio JT1 better around the same price?

    • -1

      Different headphones…

      Google's AI overview:

The FiiO JT1 has a warm, bass-forward sound signature with more prominent bass and a more engaging presentation for music and gaming, while the Philips SHP9500 offers a more analytical and detailed sound with better soundstage and spatial imaging due to its open-back design. The JT1 is a closed-back headphone suited for immersive listening and gaming, whereas the SHP9500 excels in technical detail and natural spaciousness but is less impactful in bass.

Open headphones :o how does anyone use open headphones around other people?

    • +2

      What people?

  • Grab this or wait for a Fidelio X2HR/00 deal? Mainly to be used for a digital piano. Heard the Fidelio was better but hasn't been a deal for a year now.

    • How much would the Fidelio X2HR need to be for it to be considered a deal?

      • OzBargain history says it's gone down to the $120-130 mark. So I'd say sub $140 would be nice but hasn't been that for a while.

  • +2

had mine forever and for the money they're great.
