looks like my weekend plans are set.

    • +1

It's taken me the whole weekend to DL the game :( :(

  • Been waiting for too long for POE2. I want to play this until Ashes of Creation makes it to release!

An absolute stellar patch with multiple improvements that the community has been wanting since 0.1

  • -1

Shhh… The servers are already creaking.

    Patch looks insane. Goodbye life.

  • +2

Is this game going to experience the same expansion bloat that the previous one did? There were so many grinding systems I had no idea if I was playing redundant ones or being cutting edge.

    • +4

Poe 1 had so many mechanics it made it daunting for new players for sure but was also very rewarding for returning players. So I made the leap to learn the game and it took a few seasons but ultimately very rewarding. Thats why poe1 lasted for 12 years almost!

      • +3

Yeah I loved it but I really wish they'd delete old unused mechanics or something and keep it a little cleaner. I'll dive into poe 2 at some point

        • -1

The funny part is, all mechanics are used in the game to some extent. The multitude is what gives players choice in what they want to pursue.

    • +1

Yeah it will, just the nature of the release cycles and the quality of content that they want to produce.

GGG wants the game to be complex as well so that isn't going away by design.

      • +3

hm maybe I wont bother then, such is life!

        • It is very different when you play every league or two. Much easier to keep up with all the legacy knowledge then.

      • +2

Its more that bloat = More profits as they can sell more stash space because each type of bloat has its own set of currency etc.

        • They walk a pretty tight line for monetisation and have been raked over the coals for this behaviour before, it's not something they'd be doing again unless for good reason. Just take a look at when they released the recycle mtx box or the metamorph tab. Pretty much every PoE league in the last few years has ended up with it's own box that everyone gets or the currencies are handled in the background because of it.

    • Think of it as the gift that keeps on giving. You can be 250 hours in and suddenly have a lightbulb moment where you discover how a certain thing works and feel like a complete newb.

    • Each system is still relevant, they aren't power crept into uselessness like typical expansions. You can pick one or two that you enjoy and still have a good time, no need to do it all

  • +2

    Meanwhile D4…… 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Looking at POE2 as a POE1 vet, is akin to looking at WoW Classic and yell "I aint touching this till Frozen Throne comes out".
For PoE 2, they can be paying me to play, I ain't touching it till Harvest is out and the bench is back.

  • -6

    Lol this is such garbage.

They should make it f2p proper instead of lying to people and getting them to pay while saying it will be f2p.

It's a good game but some publishers get away with murder in terms of gamer goodwill and what they promise VS. Deliver. Milk the whales now and then others later.

    • +3

it's f2p at launch, pay to play in beta/early access

    • +7

Also noting that the pay to play in beta/early access component gives you the access, plus $30 worth of points to spend in the store.

      • -8

nobody is like oh yippee free store moneys, NOWWW ill buy the game

    • +5

GGG are the first game devs to my knowledge that have passed over cosmetics and upgrades that were bought in their previous title to their new title.
Meaning if you purchased anything in PoE1, you will get equivalent in PoE2.

The game is also going f2p on launch, the early access cost is merely generating some crowdfunding so that the company who are working their asses off and listening to their community can finish the game and meet their goals a little quicker which inevitably will get the game in our hands even quicker. Not to mention every purchase of the game comes with ingame content and rewards, you're never literally paying just to play.

GGG are definitely far from the kind of publisher you are describing.

      • +3

They also aren't saints however, with the most prime recent example being their decision to not allow players to convert existing quad premium tabs into quad merchant tabs (the new tabs required to use async trading), instead you can only convert existing premium tabs or fork over a few dollars per new merchant tab come the launch of .3.

As for listening to the community, that's also a hit or miss given how .2 started and their general disconnect over player builds with regards to nerfing/balancing (mainly seems to be Jonathan), not to mention QOL.

        • -1

Whilst I agree with the points you raised, I would say that is getting into quite granular nitpicking.

I didn't claim they were perfect, only that they are far better than the majority of game devs out there.
Atleast they are hosting forums for community feedback, doing tests and making changes.

          It's more than most offer.

I don't know heaps about the tab conversions but I am sure there is a technical reason behind it rather than a "money grabbing" reason.

We should be celebrating when devs do stuff like this, not parting hairs on the things they didn't ace.

Either way I'm sure this game is going to be a good time, money spent or not.

    • +1

      L reading comprehension.

  • So all the characters will still get wiped on release right?

    • +2

No, characters will not be wiped. It functions similar to diablo 4's seasons. In poe2 you can either play the standard league or the seasons league (existing season is dawn of the hunt which is to end soon, and the next season for patch .3 is the third edict). The upcoming league in particular has mechanics (abyss) that will not be found in the standard league, so practically everyone looking to play will start a new character in the new league.

Once a season end's the character you made for that season isn't deleted but instead switched to the standard league along with their items/gear. You can also play the league's themselves differently, e.g. hardcore (1 life, death = perma death); and SSF (solo self found which has no trading/multiplayer so you must do everything yourself).

As for when the game fully launches (effectively when act 6 is released), your stuff won't be wiped, instead it'll likely just be the same situation as current, where the preceding season (league) character(s) get switched to standard and a new season (league) starts.

As someone with 12k hours in PoE1, and a few hundred in PoE2. It's my all time favourite game, the game that keeps giving even after all this time.
And I still don't know wtf I'm doing lol..

    • +2

bro 12k hours seems like a lot in one game :o

      • Over 12 years though.

  • +1

Can i pre download the game on ps5 or epic?

  • -1

it's 100 gig so i dont have enough time to both download it and play it.

    • +1

Yeah, took me a while, silly old wireless N card in the PC certainly didn't help things along, but eventually got there. Then didn't have much time to actually play. Hopefully we don't have to wait too much longer.

  • As someone whose played Diablo 3 & 4, how easy is it to jump into PoE?

    • PoE1 is seamless.

Poe2 is more Dark Souls like than Diablo

    • very easy!

  • PoE 2 animation delay feels awful. This is the bit at the end of a skill use or other animation where you are locked into performing the action. The devs say its to make it more "strategic and measured" it just feels like you are experiencing 500ms of ping, and really kills the fluidity that ARPGs thrive on.
