Rumours of it being discontinued globally a few years ago, weren't true

Bought myself a case:)

Works for me, are you a member?

    • +2

Works because the non-member normal price is $111.99

  • Placed multiple orders and was able to keep using the same code each time.

  • Only certain states? In SA this is $96.99 after code ($111.99 before)

    • -1

      +1, $96.99 in WA too :(

      • +2

just refreshed and it updated to $63! thanks OP

    • Looks like website price has updated, $63 after code

  • Nice. Old pricing from when I was buying on sale.

Not sure if this is still Nikka from the Nevis though… Ol' mate @rosebank might be able to chime in.

  • Is this good for cocktails ? Not a massive fan of whisky on the rocks

    • +1

      Great for highballs

      • +11

Cold weather is also great for highballs

    • It’s a very mellow sweet whisky despite the cask strength. Would be good for cocktails, but also good as a gateway whisky for someone to develop a taste for drinking neat.. though for beginner it might be good to add a dash of water to take the strength down and bring out a little more flavour.

Got 2, but was half asleep and ordered them in a single purchase. $15 off is per checkout

    Best entry to Japanese whisky

    Entry is all I want

    • Is that mean, taste like Jonny Red?

      • At some points, mixing can finish the day okay …

  • Couldn't resist OP, thanks ordered!

  • This be great to use for Old Fashioned or is that exclusively for Bourbon only?

  • Thanks OP! Wanted this one for my whisky!

  • Breakfast disappointment, all gone.

Nothing special about this one. Instead buy a Corowa character which is on clearance. It’s a great whisky from Corowa NSW.

      Nothing special about this one

Disagree, very good whisky especially for the price.

    • Thanks for the recommendation, haven't heard of this one.

    • $30 more though

      • I saw it for $75 at local Dan.

    • Cheapest in stock i have seen this pop up for locally is $70 on clearance going through the different Dan's changes the price.

  • +1

Minimum spend of $100 is based on the non-member price. So where the non-member price is over $100 but the member price is less than $100, then it will still apply.

    2x Dubliner Fiery Irish Whiskey 700ml $55

    2x Bacardi Coconut 700ml $69

  • Thanks got one :)

    • Drinks at De Heisenberg's?

      • For sure, haven't tried this one before!

  • Thanks! Copped another 5% off through gift card purchase!

  • Thanks! Copped one too.

Any tips on what to serve it with?

Also where would you recommend keeping the bottle? Is the fridge ideal or just keep it room temp?

    • +4

      Room temp.

For more expensive whiskies like this one, the nerds will tend to sip it straight from their little glasses (or just with ice cubes) rather than mix it with things. But your bottle is yours and you can run whatever flavour experiments you like!

      • +5

        Room temp.

Adding a drop or two of water to start, can help enhance its flavors by releasing certain aromatic compounds that may be masked by the alcohol.

This process can make the whisky taste smoother and more balanced, depending on personal preference.

Once I tried it, it is my preferred preference with this whisky.

I still like adding a large piece of ice for some others, or neat on occasion.

If you have a bottle try it all, personal taste.

        • Cheers Thayer!

I assume just one large piece of ice as opposed to multiple small ice pieces

          • @patzorz: Preferably, because it dilutes slower, it also can add to the experience.

Try with smaller pieces though as you may prefer it.

      • +1

I prefer using a pipette to drop some water in with no ice, the cold ice to me affects the flavor.

    • -7

Mix with Dr Pepper or Fanta

I’ve also heard adding a tablespoon of salt will really bring out the flavour for this drop.

Only ever put whisky in your fridge or freezer.

This is the type of snarky gatekeeping that people mock enthusiasts about. Our lad above has paid the price of admission and has no obligation to follow your preferred ritual.

Nah. Pepsi blue. That's the real McCoy

Says it's available for delivery, then I log in and it says it's unavailable. There must be stock at some regional distribution centres but not others.

    • I had issues with stock levels with delivery. I just chose pick up to avoid the $9.99 fee as I'm like 700m away from a store :P

      • Nice one. Yeah it's not in stock in stores near me, but ah well. Enjoy!

    • change location to see who has stock. Was able to get C&C at a different Dans to my local one

  • Cheers, it's a nice middle road drink.

  • the bottle just makes it that much more delicious.
    cheers.

    • The bottle also makes it a pain to pour out of haha

      • haha true…but who says one needs to pour it out into a glencairn!

    Nikka what ?

    • +10

I went to the original Nikka distillery last year. Pretty good story behind the company: nobody in Japan 110 years ago really knew how to make whisky, so this guy went to Scotland and knocked on doors until someone agreed to take him on as an apprentice. He came back and helped Suntory be the first real producer of whisky in Japan, and after a few years he decided he wanted to do his own thing so he went and started Nikka. At various points (WW2 etc) the company was on the brink of collapse and they produced a lot of apple juice for the locals so they could keep the lights on. Western hipsters got into Japanese whisky 10 or 20 years ago and the prices have shot up a lot, it'd be a lucrative business these days.

        He meant "Ni**a what?"

      • Thanks.

Interesting, however that my understanding is they can no longer call this product Japanese whisky due to the now stricter requirements of being able to claim that origin classification.

Didn’t stop me picking up my $63 bottle tonight! Haha

      • I think Japanese whisky took off when a Japanese whisky (think it was a yamazaki from memory) won in a tasting that was conducted truly blind (no country of origin info provided to tasters)… They really should take that on as a standard practice - otherwise bias creeps in whether they intend it or not

I am getting the error "Sorry, you are not eligible for this coupon promotion." when trying to use SPIRITS15

I am logged in and my local store has stock. Have they killed the code?

    • Same… shame… looks good

    • Same bugger.

    • me too

  • +1

Just tried and code wouldn't be accepted unless I properly got over the $100 threshold. They may have caught on (or I'm just unlucky)?

  • I think they’ve caught on. The code was working yesterday for me, for a single bottle. Foolish me was having second thoughts :(

    • Same here … :-(

      • Yup just missed it. Need to spend $100 now to get the $15 off. Just went and got 2 bottles instead at $70.50 each now instead. Still pretty good price.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Ordered 4 for $63 each and ready now for pick-up. 🍸

  • -1

Please recommend a plain vodka to go with "Billsons Fruit Tangle Cordial". Thank you.

  • +5

Seems to have changed to over $100 spend - I can get two for $141, but not one for $63

  • Great find

  • Managed to get the code working with two bottles for pick up. Came in at $70.50 each.

  • +1

Any other good deal for $37 to get it over the threshold ?

  • Got two bottles at $70.50 each. Thanks OP

  • Showing me $78 in SA, how to apply $15 coupon. It says not eligible

    • have a good read of the comments above you

  • lol @ 500ml

    • +5

      Yeah but 50% ABV…

  • So bloody tempted but I still have two bottles. I'm getting the supply dry before I buy

    • SEPT10 also works on September 3rd.
