    Damn, that sucks

  • Can you share a screenshot of the post? Asks me to log in but I'm not a member of fartbook so I can't look.

Are there any other sites that sell it to Australians?

    • I did a quick check of others and they are either iherb drop shippers or have also cease australian delivery

Incredibly lame, how on earth does one 'overdose' on melatonin anyway?

        • From the video… melatonin gummies being downed like lollies.

          • @Clear: Why not just ban the gummies then?

They taste really good, if you have kids and you buy these you're taking a huge risk.

Melatonin is unregulated in USA. It’s not considered medicine, and therefore goes unchecked. The amount of melatonin found in these products varies wildly from what the packet says - some studies have shown anywhere from 0% to 74% to 247% of the amount listed.

So if you buy a product that is labeled as 5mg of melatonin which you think is safe for you, but it has 247% of the amount, that’s over 12mg. For context: a standard dose is usually 3mg, and rarely more than 5mg - especially with no input from an actual health professional.

That same article I linked above explains that in recent years there has been a massive increase in poison control calls in USA as a result of kids ingesting melatonin gummies because they looked like lollies.

Then there’s also the concern of what else is in these unregulated products, as there’s no ingredients list on these products.

@jjjaar: There are plenty of highly reputable companies to sourced from that regularly do independant testing. People buying outside of these would be the real issue as there are bucket loads of other fly by night brands and probably dodgy crap coming from China, India etc.

      Biovea. Piping Rock.

  • You’re doxing yourself with that link btw

  • I grabbed some bulk orders from amazon us which was still available. See if they get cancelled or make it thru customs.

They decided to stop all sales because parents are overdosing their kids with melatonin gummies. Melatonin doesn't work for me for some reason, always feel awful the day after as well. What works for me to sleep better is a steam eye mask, I'm out in like 5 minutes with the mask on.

    • Any particular eye mask?

      • Kao MegRhythm Steam Eye Mask, I usually buy them from Stylevana or Beauty Amora.

    • never heard of that, what does the steam do?

      • No actual steam, the mask heats up as soon as you open it and helps relax your eyes.

So a normal eye mask doesn't help you to sleep but this one does?

          • +1

@fredblogs: Normal eye mask just block light and doesn't do much to help relax my eyes?

    • This works for my Mrs too. Doesnt do sweet f all for me, absolutely useless. The only other thing i have tried that sort of works a bit is Lemon Balm. Where as melatonin is a life saver. I feel no issues what so ever next morning.

Because of few stupids, everyone else get punished.

    • Seems to be the way with everything these days.

  • Well shit, better start rationing what's left of my stock.

inb4 using a freight forwarder will still get me in trouble.

Damn, i guess time to wean myself off.

  • Just go to the doctor and get them to give you the liquid stuff. It's a million times better.

    • Do tell, I've tried the prescription tablets before and hated them, much worse than the dissolvable ones from iherb

      • Just find the right doctor, and go in knowing what you want. 95% of them need you to tell them what's wrong with you anyway.

        • Oh, as in what is the liquid stuff, never heard of it before

          • @Jolakot: Voquily

          • @Jolakot: Ah ok, it's just 10mg/ml liquid, I assume a suspension of some sort, compounding chemist makes it up I believe.

I have a prescription for melatonin but I never dispense it and import it instead because the supply is so much cheaper. This sucks 😭

    • +1

Yep. Costs a small fortune here.

Before one could buy this in Australia I went to the US to buy it.
At first I was wrapped by its ease of use and low price.
I know many doctors and in the last few years their opinions shifted to no longer being a good idea to mess with hormones.
Better use natural sleep teas, drink much during the day, avoid blue light and alcohol.
Wind down before sleep, use incandescent lights and avoid stress including political news.
Drink decaf after lunch and also avoid black tea the same.

    • Only really an issue with people taking stupidly high doses. 1mg, 3mg, 5mg, i've not seen any reliable information that it has any impact what so ever and certainly not been my experience using it for years. Just going to force us to find alternative sources. Stupid government over reach.

  • No longer shipping melatonin to Australia?

    *Bear Gryll's meme.jpg*

  • I was just about to place a bulk order. Came here looking for a code.

  • How are people buying their supplies now?

I looked on Amazon and most of the listings are not sold by Amazon, e.g. Nature's Bounty is sold by Wiki Deals but shipped from Amazon.

Is that going to be a problem?

Swanson Melatonin for example is sold by Endlessupply2015, and the reviews have some weird comments where the person received the wrong dosage, albeit for a different product…

    1 out of 5 stars
I ordered Solaray Food Carotene 7500 mcg 100 softgels, but received Solaray Food Carotene 500 mcg 100 softgels. I guess who ever picked the order has difficulty…

Pipingrock or Biovea. Pipingrock is cheaper.

  • This is frustrating news. But still can order magnesium, which really helps

I was informed by Australia Post that, from Tuesday, 26 August 2025, they are temporarily suspending some international postal services to the US and overseas territories. Interestingly, I recently noticed that the vitamins I ordered from iHerb were shipped from South Korea, not the US.

However, melatonin is classified as a prescription-only medication in Korea, so it cannot be sold or shipped without a valid prescription, even when the product originates from the US. I believe this might be the reason why iHerb has temporarily suspended melatonin shipping to Australia, especially if their logistics now route through Korea.

  • Tried it - zero effect on me.

Absolutely disgraceful. Just going to force people to less safe and less reliable avenues. More over regulated nonsense. It's a bloomin hormone! People need to wake up and stop voting along stupid political lines and get back to voting on actual meaningful policies, or at least protesting voting whoever the incumbent is screwing us.

Unregulated melatonin products had as much as four times the amount on label, TGA testing shows
    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-09-29/tga-safety-concerns-o…

Well, looks like that ban is here to stay forever

    • Yep. Confirmation that it's really Big Pharma who pulls the strings over at the TGA. Of course, you can still buy regulated melatonin in Australia - just be prepared to pay up to 100x the price for a less effective, inferior formulation with all profits going straight to Big Pharma extortionists.

    • Nice, my CVS is only 112%-121% of the 3mg dose. Close enough, much cheaper, f*** yeah!

    • Let's hope no one goes crazy because of an inability to access affordable medication, otherwise we might have a Brian Thompson style TGA attack.

  • Bugger. I've just got by iHerb subscription cancelled email.

I've used iHerb for years after first forking out a fortune for the monthly script. If I recall correctly, the paediatrician actually recommended iHerb as a cheaper alternative at the time, and have used Now, Natrol and Life Extension brands. I have even taken the odd one every now and again to help re-establish a good sleep pattern.
