Thanks Qantas for giving me some status credits! Definitely was worth all my data being stolen and sent to China because you choose to outsource to Phillipines

    • thought philipinos are fighting aginst China over south china sea. mate

    • Or they could just give you nothing and call it a day. Like Medibank.

  • +23

Qantas thanks you for sharing your data on the dark web 👍

    • +2

      …sharing *our data…

      ;)

  • +3

as someone who doesnt fly for business and only sometimes Qantas when flying, thanks, this will get me 0.5% of the way to lifetime silver which ill probably never achieve anyway, nor is it worth it if i did.
glad my data was worth that

    • +40

Funnily enough this will get you 0.000% of the way to lifetime silver. These do not count towards lifetime status.

      • +2

        this actually sucks :(

        • 100% this sucks.

      • Silver is meh

      • Oh, so literally worthless then.

      • +1

        Everyone is silver lol

      • lol so its even worse! man this airline seems to do its best to insult you while smiling

  • +7

After their cyber breach that leaked our private data onto the dark web and the recent watering down of their Frequent Flyer points value i would hardly call this a bargain.

  • +5

In addition to the above SCs, Points Club Plus members will receive 5,000 Qantas Points and Points Club members will receive 2,500 Qantas Points.

    • +2

At least this is useful. About $40-50 for Plus members

  • +9

Not saying it’s worth anything but they will be gifting some points too.

Points Club Plus members will receive 5,000 Qantas Points and Points Club members will receive 2,500 Qantas Points.

After the recent data breach and reduced points value, I think they forgot to update their heading for this promotion. Let me help them:

Thank you Sorry for your loyalty….

Fairly pointless considering this does not apply to lifetime status, this would be more alike to a discount to attaining status

  • +1

Useless for me - I am Bronze and don't have much status at all. I usually fly VA, as it's usually cheaper for me.

  • +1

With some notable exceptions, airports are getting better than they used to be in terms of food options, which makes lounge access less relevant that in the days when there were very few food outlets.

Couple this with QFF declining value and reduced quality of their lounges, it really isn't the drawcard it once was.

And their profit is up 28%… Wonder why?

    • +1

Access to a QF lounge is still superior to hanging around in departures. People bang on about the QANTAS Club being too busy and not exclusive anymore but would jump at the chance to get in - just having a relatively comfortable seat with less noise than the departure hall is nice. Then add on showers, food, etc. I agree they’re not as good as they were but still…

If we talk about Perth, the food options are lame and expensive in both domestic and international and the departure areas are dreary, especially international. The QF lounge there is decent and hasn’t ever been packed when I’ve passed through. I’ll vote for the VA domestic lounge all day though, vastly nicer than QF.

      • The clubs are still good for one thing, open bar. It's the reason why they are called Qantas pub.

Yeah the food quality has decreased over the years. I remember 10 years ago the business lounges used to have really nice tarts and the regular lounges had a slightly better spread.

You can still get a semi decent meal, with their salad selection still ok, soup is still mostly ok and you can always make a toasty. What has probably dropped is their hot meal selection which can be more miss than hit now and the sweet cakes selection isn't a patch on what it was. It still beats paying $20 for something in the terminal.

        • Agree fully. I remember the meal of the day in QF int lounge at PER being a highlight. Now it’s just a bland experience, good for a coffee with a view.

Never as good as their SIN lounge, not to mention Asian carrier home lounges!

          • @zfind: Went through their Singapore Business lounge last year and it was leaps and bounds ahead of their international domestic lounges.

The QF First lounges are still top notch though.

        • True, it still has value, but I guess what I'm saying it's not worth pursuing. If you were going to fly Qantas anyway and you get lounge access, that's great, but not worth picking Qantas any more over cheaper airlines.

          • @Shoocat: The big problem I've had is Virgin is not much cheaper on the routes I fly compared to QF/JQ.

    • You're thinking about it the wrong way if you think it was about food options, it's because you don't have to pay any more for it.

Would the food store outside do a better pie or soup than the one in the Emirates/Qantas/One World lounges? Probably, but it ain't free.

      • That's the case if you're not actually spending a lot more money trying to attain access to said club. As with all loyalty/status things, if you're spending more money than you would otherwise, it's likely not actually worth it.

Even with how expensive airport food is…

  • +3

How is this a deal? 1) You're either eligible or not. 2) If you are eligible, you don't have to do anything.

  • … probably because of the near $2.4B profit. Still a gift is a gift

    • +4

Indeed. Incidentally, please accept into your home my delightful gift of this wooden horse; also, just quickly, need you to ignore a few pieces of PII we seem to have liberated…

      • I fear the geeks, even when bearing gifts …

        • +1

Indeed. As a gesture of goodwill, please accept this free usb drive / usb charging cable ;)

    • I read $1.6b still a shit tonne and fines haven’t really impacted them significantly.

  • +1

I mean yea, they're rewarding our "loyalty", but they know as well as we do that if there were any other half decent options in a small market like ours, we'd "hop" off this flying kangaroo.

  • +3

Seriously feels like QF is slowly enshittifying into an American airline.

The heated up boxed meals, low-value bonuses like this, devaluation of points.

    • Well, of course they are. Tiger died. Rex more or less died. Bonza died. They wiped out almost all the competition lol.

  • +2

Thanks Qantas, I didn't realise "loyalty" and "contempt" meant the same thing. Please ensure Manila update the scammers with my new SC and points balances. I would but I can't spare a week on the phone waiting for them to correct their errors.

  • +3

LOL, compensation that costs them literally nothing and only serves to encourage you to spend more with them to get closer to the next status level. Couldn't have been designed better by a management consultant.

  • The title was confusing
didnt know what the 40 was for but thought i could get the choice between 80,150 points or 300 status.

Points would have been preferable but that means qantas gives me something with actual value

  • TIL Bronze = Silver - both 40SC

  • a hateful company i will avoid at all costs in the future

  • +2

This is like if you were sexually assaulted and someone says "well at least you got laid"

    Thanks Qantas

  • QF still trying hard to milk their loyalty program instead of focus on being an airline?

  • -1

Can someone explain in plain English, what difference will this 40 status credit point make in terms of perks and benefits?

    • +1

Might boost your balance enough to obtain a status match with a better airline. /s

    • really, this needed explanation in plain English?

      my god….

      • +3

It really was a missed opportunity to explain in plane English.
Grabs hat, I'll see myself out.

        • ooo thats good mate!

    • +1

in plain english, if you don't know what status credits are; they're worthless to you.

The only time they're useful is if it'll help you qualify for the next tier of frequent flyer status. Which means you need to have already been flying a lot.

The credits do expire every year, so in all likelihood they'll eventually disappear without having any affect on your life.

    • Each time you fly, you earn status points + frequent flyer miles.

Get enough status points, and you move up through the tiers. The points expire every year, just like your status.

Each tier it gets better. You generate more points/tiers and you get things like lounge access/upgrades etc.

The fact you dont know what they are indicates you dont fly enough to care, and this will be completely pointless benefit for you.

  • How is this a deal? It's either provided automatically (no registration or action required), or it's unobtainable.

  • Unethical company corrupting the aviation landscape in Australia increasing prices for all. I can't see how any Qantas post can be considered a deal.

Status credits are a leading cause of the public service worshiping Qantas and wiping out the competition. They are an untaxed fringe benefit. A private benefit from work spend.

  • What happens if your membership year is about to roll over, like mine? Do the credits just expire almost immediately?
