Be aware that there has been further shrinkflation with the old 360g Milk Chocolate Toblerone now being replaced with a new 340g SKU. It used to be 400g not too long ago!

Other flavours e.g. White Chocolate remain 360g for now

    • I've had a hard time finding white chocolate except at Christmas, where are they available?

      • My local IGA has them in stock right now, $18 though.

    • +5

I remember when these used to be $6 half price at Woolies a couple of years ago.

      • +2

Me too. $10-12 is a reasonable regular price for this.

I remember when this dropped to $6 I would buy 2-4 bars. Any more than $6 it's a hard pass for me.

  • +9

Remember these were $5 half price regularly only a few years ago. RRP has doubled now

    • +18

I think the general strategy is to double the price of everything, and then run regular 'half-price' ads.
Virtually nothing is truly half price, but we still fall for it.

      • +2

Ah! The old eBay and amazon trick. Can't wait for down fresh day.

iPhone introduced the iFool trick - Less features is More $$

    • +3

Paired with this shrinkflation aussiedeals mentioned and we can see just how badly big corporations are screwing us. What a time to be alive

      • To be fair, i am sure the prices from manufacturers have also increased significantly.

        • But Arizona cans have remained a dollar and Costco hot dog is still a $1, well at least that's what the Americans say. I wonder if there's any Australia products that have remained the same price.

          • @SarcasticEmu: I've been buying better and better phones every few years for around about the same price range, I could even skimp and get still a slightly better phone for cheaper, just don't buy useless flagships from big brands for $2000+, isn't Apple removing features, Samsung is dog shit, I've got a Nothing 2a I paid $399 for, all my phones have always been in the low hundreds range and they still keep getting better.

I don't yet understand the bad blood on supermarkets in recent years. I know it mightn't be popular to speak in anything that sounds like a defence of their businesses, but there are a few things I understand to be objectively true about their operations.

Woolworths and Coles are publicly listed companies, needing to meet comprehensive financial reporting requirements by the ASX, heavily scrutinised by many - analysts and fund managers, shareholders, ASIC, ATO. They must and do adhere to the strictest of corporate laws in Australia, including disclosure laws.

I hear quoted they run on razor thin 2-3% profit margins, the lowest of all publicly listed companies. Because of it they get heavily marked down by analysts for having such little margins to protect and limited opportunity to reinvest for growth. WOW is down 14% over 5 years (!), and COL has just turned up in the last 12 months from having lost value between 2020-2024.

When inflation drifts up, supermarkets immediately lose margin and their retail sales flip into at-loss. They eventually pass on their inflationary costs to carve out their thin margins again, but not before the market has spanked their share values.

With accumulative CPI up ~20% since 2020, all business have needed to pass on their costs.

I don't like to think too black-and-white about businesses (and corporates) being an us-and-them conflict. Most businesses do not succeed, and the few that do are successful at presenting a solution for a problem or need. There is something to appreciate about having businesses that provide such a large and effective food and home goods distribution system with innumerable fronts local to nearly everyone in the country. That's a solution more than a century in the making. It would certainly be a lot more expensive and less effective if it were a government administered program.

        Anyway, that's my perspective.

        • +5

The BIGW portion of WOW is tanking its share price, not the margin made on groceries.

Spin it how you want, both WOW and COL are both making mega profits! Making it from you and I, the consumer.
          WOW NPAT $1.3 billion
          COL NPAT $1.07 billion

Those are staggering profits all driven by greed to please the shareholders

        • +9

Coles and woolworths are amongst the most profitable supermarkets in the world according to the ACCC report in March 2025.

Australia has a lower absolute population and also a lower population density compared to other countries e.g. The UK, USA etc.

They achieve this because they are ripping off your average customer in part because we have little other competition. If they were doing so with luxuries then that's a bit more palatable but when it is basic or essential goods it's quite scummy.

I don't yet understand why people fail to see what is in front of us in Australia :(.

        • I hear quoted they run on razor thin 2-3% profit margins

Woolies won't sell anyting at less than 30% GP. If it's on sale, the wholesaler / manufacturer is funding the sale

        • -1

To the contrary, it would be a lot cheaper and much more efficient if it was government administered.

Not fake government administered, where for-profit businesses deliver programs and unsurprisingly cream $$ off the top and deliver garbage results.

      • No just shrinkflation - the quality has gone down hill as well.

  • +4

wished they had the fruit and nut or Dark choc version as well

    • +1

Fruit and Nut is amazing, but for some reason, it never hits the shelf. Have to buy in duty free stores, and you never get a good price on them anymore.

  • -1

I work at coles, and I’ve reduced them to $3. Coles and Woolies can mark them down to a minimum of $3 if you ask nicely. Speak to the grocery manager and he should do it for you!

    • -1

      Why $3?

    • +1

You got to be joking.. I never haggled prices at a supermarket in my life not even in Asia.

      • +2

        😂 best price la?

    • Once you get to know the staff and markdown times you can score some great bargains at Woolworths in particular. But never heard of them marking down shelf stable items like this unless it is a clearance?

I did see a price tag for Toblerone milk chocolate 360g in Metro for just over $2 but all gone :( , Metro always seems to be cheaper and they do ridiculous markdowns every couple of days it seems

      • Metro usually actually has higher full price shelf prices on some items, but I suppose with the size of the store they don't want to hang onto unwanted inventory for too long either, so big discounts when needed.

  • +1

    Check your local Coles.

At one of my stores, the blue/aqua package versions were scanning at $3.5, only 1 carton (~12 sticks) left, as mentioned, they are swapping to 340g packaging.
At my other store they were $10.

I should have just bought the whole carton, only grabbed 2, the staff who scanned it also said he was going to grab some.

  • Oh god yeah, I love making melted choc with these

  • Heard these are quite sharp and painful to bite into.

    • +10

      Especially so at full price.

    • Okay jack

      • glad someone got it!

  • +3

Surely no-one buys this at $20

  • +2

They must have zero sales at $20

  • still expensive darl

  • +1

The worst chocolate ever. I wouldn't eat them even if they were free.

    • What chocolate do you eat?

  • I'm 44 and have never tried a Toblerone in my life. Am I missing out? The shape always put me off it.

    • +1

Classic avoidance behvarious. It's good that you feel like this is a safe space to talk about your problem. Although I never thought I'd ever witness a real life case of trigonophobia.

    • +1

They used to be better tasting when it was Switzerland owned. When Kraft bought them they changed the recipe. Still good but not great.

    • My pagan.hippy occult worshiping friends love them.

  • +1

So glad you can get the white choc one now, not just the mini version.

    • is it good ?
      hows the orange twist one?

  • Toblerone look like runes. Any risk I'll be cursed?

  • +3

Check your flybuys for a Coles points offer on boxed chocolates which includes this item, I got 650 points ($3.25).

    Img.

  • Any deals on non boxed
    Need some triangle shaped

  • +1

I have always thought of Toblerone as an expensive brand, but when it is cheaper than Cadbury blocks……

Random fact - do you know why Toblerone is triangle shaped?

So it fits in the box.

  • Once again half price is the real price. Thanks Colesworth!!!

  • the last time I purchased this item it was weighted 500g
