Have never seen it this cheap.

These go on sale for quite cheap in Woolies or Coles actually. Always yellow tagged.

    • +7

      "quite cheap" eh

      ok m8

proper money says you've never seen d'Affinois for anything like this price, unless it was very very shortly about to expire

      • +2

Correct. It's usually $70-90/kg in any supermarket or farmers market, I've never seen it at this price

      • +6

Short dated is exactly when you want to eat it too.

        • +1

          This is the way

      • Yep, any cheaper than this and it's the final yellow tag of the day and the expiry date is that night or the next day.

      • +1

No? This is exactly what I see. I've had this for indeed this cheap yellow-tagged. I'm not sure you frequent the cheese section like I do on the regular.

        • Yep, It's been a while but I used to get it at 90% off from the stupidmarkets. I don't like the taste of the cling wrap that permeates in to the cheese. Makes a 2kg wheel for $10 seem an insane bargain to me!

      • +1

Expire?? It’s cheese and lasts weeks beyond that date, most people actually prefer it with a bit of age on it

      • +1

This has a best before date, not a use by date. Also, for cheese, the best before date is actually "best on"

    • +2

Hi marshmallow, how much do 7800x3ds go for when yellow tagged?

    • Yep.. used to buy all the time at Coles for 90% off

  • +8

These are $10 for a 2kg wheel at cheaper buy miles in melbourne!

    • -3

      I doubt that

      • +4

        I was just there mate.

        • Still in stock?

      • Brunswick had a heap of the blue this afternoon.

    • In the past they’ve also had smaller boxes for $2, if people don’t want to buy a full wheel. Cheaper Buy Miles is a good place to drop into because they have a lot of interesting stuff. The products are often around the use by date so prices are pretty good.

      • Yes i love it, it's a great way to try new things and I'm not a big believer in use by dates anyway!

        • +1

It depends on the product. Dairy I’m wary, but most of the packet stuff should be fine. They certainly have some interesting chocolates there.

    • '$10 for a 2kg wheel at cheaper buy miles in melbourne!'

$5/kg for what Colesworth sells for something like $70/kg !?!?

damn - 400m from where I used to live in Fitzroy ! -

but I now live in Sydney {sob} 😢

  • +1

Great price. They were $49/kg last week so I guess they didn't move as much stock as they were hoping to.

Has anyone frozen soft cheese before? I know it won't be as good but wondering if it might be okay to cook or bake with (e.g. quiches, tarts)?

    • +2

Too good to cook with, just enjoy it fresh

      • Oh, I'll definitely be eating some (a lot) fresh, but there's only so much cheese you can eat within a week or two.

The cheapest soft cheese at Woolies is $21/kg for that Thomas Dux shit. Even those Tasmanian Heritage wheels are $29/kg when half price, so if it freezes okay, I'd stock up.

        • +3

I've frozen Brie and Camembert before. They hold up well so long as you seal them well in a zip lock bag or two, otherwise they dry up

    • +1

I bought some of this from the French Festival in Brisbane a month or so ago and in a moment of distraction put it in the freezer. It didn't ruin it, but it is better fresh.

    • +2

Yep, I've frozen these. They have a very high fat content so they freeze really well

      • 'It's safe to freeze soft cheese, but this is not recommended as it ends up very watery when defrosted,' they said. 'This includes cheeses such as brie, feta and cream cheese.

'That said, if you have soft cheese in a recipe – such as a pasta sauce – this will freeze much better.' - https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-15046031/fre…

        • Personal experience: this cheese freezes really well. Can't tell the difference to fresh when it's defrosted

  • +2

This is just about the single biggest bargain i've seen. Unfortunately, useless for a South Australian like me, but I'm use to paying $90/kg.

    • That’s the point. How come we are “used to” paying those prices??

  • -6

Free chance of lysteria 😜. No recalls on this one but others manufactured by the same company.

    • +1

Been eating this stuff for years and never had a problem. Your hysteria over listeria is over blown.

  • Which ones are nice? blue label, green label, orange label, or the truffle one?

  • +2

Cheaper buy miles basically gives this stuff away for free on the regular in Melbourne.

    • woo owie I've never brought from em

    • Anyone know if there is something similar in Brisbane?

    • It was $10 there 3 or 4 years ago :( now it's $18.

      • +1

        Was back to $10 yesterday

  • +11

I bought 3, the girl in the shop looked at me weird when I asked for a Fromager Toi

  • This cheese is nice and very creamy but lacks punch to me. Tastes very mild and milky. Still would smash it. Unless thinking of the wrong one.

    • +2

I've only tried the purple and orange ones and thought the same. Apparently the blue one in the thumbnail is the most mild so maybe try the other varieties.

    • +3

Let it ripen, and serve at room temperature

  • Aww yeah

  • Serious question - what kind of qualities does this cheese offer over a $5 aldi brie? (food safety jokes aside). Presumably better texture or flavour, but some of the comments above state that the flavour is quite mild.

    • +2

I’m not a cheese expert, but I enjoy soft cheeses. It just tastes really nice. I can’t even describe it cause I’m dumb, but it’s like comparing a 20 year old Shiraz to a $20 wine you picked up from Dan murphys this arvo. It has a way nicer texture that makes the other cheese feel like rubber, the taste just has a lot more nice flavours to it and makes it a joy to eat. I bought it once for my parents who questioned why I would spend so much on cheese but they had a taste and agreed it was worth it… I don’t bring many good food experiences to the table with them so I felt a little vindicated for once!

    • My suggestion is buy some and do the taste test yourself. The triple cream is one of my go to choices.

  • +2

As a French person, I can assure you this is one of the best cheese I can find down under. Especially when they're discounted at woolies because short dated - silly them, that's when it's the best!!
Too bad I'm in WA and can't enjoy this deal, that's a great price 👍

    • Pickleball fella?

  • for real this is the tastiest cheese ive ever had in my life. If you're a fan of soft cheeses and haven't tried this, DO IT!

  • This shit is delicious. I'd be buying a kilo or 2 at that price

  • so can I walk in to my local Harris Farm in Sydney and buy this ?

wait - I just clicked on the links and got '404 this page does not exist'

so was this deal just a fly-by-night pigment of someone's imagination

or did it sell out so fast it was like a glitch in the matrix ?

    • Bought some this morning at my local HFM at this price. Heaps of stock.

  • Still plenty @ Clayfield this morning.

  • +2

    I'm seeing 3 types at $20/kg now at https://www.harrisfarm.com.au/collections/cheese?page=3

    save $80/kg 'excellence … triple cream' - https://www.harrisfarm.com.au/collections/cheese/products/fr…

    save $75/kg 'washed rind' - https://www.harrisfarm.com.au/collections/cheese/products/br…

    save $65/kg 'double cream' - https://www.harrisfarm.com.au/collections/cheese/products/fr…

I'm not familiar with these varieties - any help distinguishing the taste ?

    • Only had the triple cream. It is a mild rich Brie. If you prefer your Bries to have a cauliflower taste then this isn’t the cheese for you.

    • +1

Taste from mild to intense: double cream (blue), washed rind (orange), excellence (purple)
Texture from firm to oozy: excellence, double cream, washed rind

      • okay thanks - I went to my local Harris Farm, was disturbed to only see $49.99/kg on the shelf - finally asked a staff who waved to a single row - where I found the quarter wheel selections of double cream and excellence - no washed rind - so I got one of each for about $10-11 each

the cashier guy said 'that's very cheap - I must get some for myself'

they're both marked best before around 11 Sep 2025 so about 10 days - I cracked the excellence, spread thick splodges on 8 Aldi water crackers, enjoyed them with some opened red French wine, and the world is a happier place … 😋🧀

the question for life's difficult times:- "What Would Cheeses Do … ?"

        • The Baby Cheeses.

The triple cream is my go to cheese.

If we do go past the best before date we add some of it to our macaroni cheese, very decadent. It also works well in a mushroom omelette.

        • Hangryuman no longer hangry!

  • It's $50/kg at my local HF

  • You certainly get a lot of cheese for $10! I might have to freeze half… not exactly health food.

  • So salty

  • was all gone at a couple of harris farms I went to today and looks like they have taken it off their site
