I ordered a mower and snipper, pole pruner and blower deal through Sydney tools and it was an absolute disaster I’ll never shop there again, ~$2500 worth of gear and they would not return calls and ended up taking about a month to get what I had paid for with plenty of arguments along the way. Love the tools though I’d just buy elsewhere.

    • Never had this experience. maybe shop dependent and worth calling out which one.

      • Second that. Might be a bad employee / manager. Should provide feedback to their head office naming employee / store. Obviously this shop is ruining their reputation - especially when dropping that much money.

  • +1

I can’t see the hedge trimmer details? Link is to buy line trimmer + battery and charger, with blower via redemption… nothing about the hedge trimmer?

  • +3

Can someone explain to me the appeal of EGO and committing to a battery system that is exclusively garden tools? I mean why not jump into Dewalt, Milwaukee etc. who have all the garden tools and also have the option of power tools too?

    • +6

These are 56V tools and not 18V, while some power tool companies like Makita will do 36V. Generally higher voltage can mean more power and torque available, but you should compare the tools themselves to know for sure if that is translating.

The Ego tools are great aside from the battery prices and some have mentioned battery lifetime longevity. If you are demanding petrol power but want electric this is probably the closest so far

      • -2

Dewalt, the specific example given is 54v capable

        • +2

The reviews for Dewalt garden tools are generally bad, completely opposite of their power tools. I'm in their ecosystem, but haven't had any garden tools yet

          • @Averell: Oh don't mistake my pointing that out for having any faith in their garden tools lol
I concur with you completely and I won't repeat what I've said somewhere else here but yeh, Dewalt isn't much of a green thumb brand that's for sure

      • -1

This has me worried - battery lifetime longevity.

        • After years of dealing with an old victor 4 stroke I bought an ego set.

Addmitedly I should have bought a smaller unit (52cm is too big 48 would have been fine). But I've had it for 3 years and the battery is nearing replacement. It's OK if the grass is short and dry, but if it's damp at all I need to constantly manually clean the bottom of it out as it jams and stalls the time.

I'm committed now so I'll keep spending $100 a year on batteries to avoid fuel.

          • @gumbs: I myself use ozito and Ryobi mowers and have had no issues with batteries, however i did read a few issues with ego batteries going bad and replacing them are expensive. I never bothered to clean the bottom of the mowers though.

            • @John Doh: How would you say Ryobi stack up against the 2x18 Ozitos? Been discussing whether we'd make the switch for a a couple years now but I'll never hear the end of it if I push the change and it isn't for the better!

              • +1

@parad0x: IMO 2X battery Ozito machines are excellent, the steel deck ones. Few online reviews showing good tall grass performance. Batteries are also cheaper. And the heavier steel deck should make the cut as flat as possible. 5 year warranty makes it a no brainer. But if your lawn is very thick, then probably looking at expensive models might make sense. Also do your own homework as well, thats just my 2c ;)

                • @John Doh: Yeh look can't fault the steel deck we've got (it's one of the earlier ones), and it's actually my partner who does the lawns and she says "there's nothing wrong with it" whenever I bring the topic up. When we brought this house, I offered to be responsible for the lawns but it came with the caveat that I was permitted to own a rise-on. My proposal was swiftly denied!

Youd said you'd used both that's why I asked the question. I suppose the comparison id want to draw is between that and the 560mm? Ryobi - the self drive model but without self propel "it's too slow it's stupid!ć

                  • @parad0x: Unfortunately I havent used those models to comment. Good FB market place deals with warranties exists as well if you want to buy try and resell if not interested.

          • @gumbs: What battery you can buy with $300?

        • Battery tends to fail just after the 3 year warranty ends as per several posts on gardening forums.

I have dewalt tools (some Ryobi as gifts from work and friends) and I have full EGO garden equipment. When trying out some of the other tool brands garden equipment have found them weak in comparison… especially the mowers. I have a few mates that have a few different brands and knowing what I do now I would buy the same again if I had a redo

      • I have Ryobi garden tools (only 2: a line trimmer and a hedge trimmer), some Ryobi power tools, and Dewalt power tools. Already have 5 pieces of battery, thus hesitated to buy Ego :-(

        • I had Ryobi line trimmer, chainsaw, blower and hedge trimmer (and a 808 petrol mower which had a Honda motor) when the mower went I got a cheapo Aldi petrol that eventually just became more and more effort as not self propelled on 900m2 plot so took the step to an ego self propelled and I got rid of all my Ryobi garden stuff asap after replacing all with ego

I had explained it all, then accidentally made.a.flicking gesture trying t get to the submit button and Google said "oh you want the previous page herw you go" and I'm not typing it all again so: Dewalt an issues exception, I looked at their lawnmower, id never use it - it's evident they don't have the R&D in gnat department. Even so they're bloody expensive power toola for anyone who isn't going to be reliant on them daily. On top it's only specific batteries and chargers that are cross compatible. The right tool for the job always works out better than the tools being adapted to perform a job under the guise of convenience. Work smarter not harder is a phrase I just used that's equally applicable here. Owning numerous 2x18v ozito garden tools I was happy… Until I borrowed my parents Ego stuff. That's was nothing short of amazing. Ftr I looked at Dewalts Mower just the other day and I would t touch it -it's obvious that they don't have the same R&D into garden that hey have mastered in every other aspect of the job site - garden is an afterthought to the dewalt range (just like AEG, and now bunnings can hardly give away the 60v AEG garden stuff - I nearly brought a backpack blower kit just for fun @ $200 why wouldn't you? Well because by tbe time you came back through someone else had the same thought but the brains to take it to the counter!

I had friends complain about theirs cutting out with wet grass / long grass etc. It's why I went ego brand.

This clip was from a few days ago when I was mowing some overgrown lantana with my ego mower - one handed with the drive button thing.

      • Impressive.
How many Ah of battery did you need to cut the amount shown at the end of your video?

        • +3

15Ah. Was 2x 7.5Ah batteries. I showed a mate who said there is a hack going around where you spray non stick coating onto the blades and inside the under carriage and can increase the run time by 30-40%. Haven't tried it tho.

      • That is impressive indeed! That should be promo material or the response to any Mower/ego related query or comparison

    • -2

Better still hit up marketplace for the Ryobi 36v range

      • Have used and still disappointed compared to the ego 56v stuff

  • +4

Still using my Masters bought one!

    • +1

Me too and the batteries are still going strong for 7-8 years I think?!

    • Same. I can’t believe it’s been going for this long and I’ve used the same battery for the Blower and Whipper Snipper also.

This kit STLB1401E-ST does not appear in the list published by EGO as eligible for the hedge trimmer bonus by redemption, most likely because the sale price of the trimmer and blower combination for $479 is the bonus.

    https://egopromo2.egopowerplus.com.au/terms-and-conditions

    • Great point. I've been umming and ahhing all morning over this, but this kit is clearly not on the list.

      • +3

It is in fact eligible! I grabbed one - cheers.

    • -1

Good pickup. Neither kit nor individual trimmer is on that list

    • You're right, the OP has listed the wrong kit.

This one for $699 comes with the blower and is eligible for the redemption.

          • +1

@jubified: Right you are, the terms pages doesn't have it listed but the claim form does. Well that's a good buy then.

    • So is this what I am buying or the one that Op shared?

  • +1

Was in the market for just a hedge trimmer. Now have a line trimmer and blower as well. Sigh.. Thanks OP. 😂

My first EGO though, hope it is not addictive.

  • I need a charger!!

  • First time buyer of any tools.

Was checking between Ryobi, Makita and EGO.

    My primary needs are ..

    Lawn mower..150sqm
Blower for general dust and leaves
    Edge trimmer
    Pressure washer

Money wise flexible but of course wants best value for money..

Is EGO the way to go?

    • Best value for money is Ryobi on marketplace/Scumtree but nothing is guaranteed in that situation. I'm on both the 18v and 36v ecosystem with Ryobi and there is pros and cons to each.

You will need a 36v brushless mower at minimum but I use 18v for the line trimmer and blower

    • Ryobi make a 36v brushless pressure washer but you'll need a few batteries if you intend to do some extended cleans

  • With one 2.5Ah battery, how much time can I use work each of those 3 tools? I have a 18V*8Ah DeWalt battery, and on their handheld vacuum I could use barely 15 minutes.
    Thanks

    • Hard to tell how long the 2.5Ah battery will last in each tool, but I can cut logs with one of their original 35cm chainsaws for at least half an hour, so would expect these all to last at least that long, except for the blower on turbo constantly.

  • Amazing value for what’s included. Damn I already have two of three things in the kit. If anyone selling their blower skin at a reasonable price pls DM

    • how many batteries * Ah do you have for those two things?

      • 1x5Ah and 1x2.5Ah. I have a line trimmer, hedge trimmer and mower. Both batteries work with any of the device.

  • Got this deal price-matched from Total Tools. Pretty great kit and the hedge trimmer was express posted too.
I have Dewalt XR 18V other tools and thought about using those batteries and getting some gardening Dewalt skins but decided the 56V power will be useful here and great value. The blower is awesome

    • Why didn't you buy from ST?

      • Was actually price matching Toolkit Depot prior to this ST finally catching up with same deal. TT is closest store for me regionally.

        • Ive just realised this deal is free delivery. Even regionally it seems, which is rare. So this is better than TT and Toolkit Depot now.

    • Do you have the link to the equivalent one in Total Tools? Thanks.

      • No couldnt find it or they removed a while back. Email enquiry confirmed they had just a few left in TT Darwin and they happily pricematched in a quote + postage.

    • Aren't the hedge trimmers posted by EGO or are they sent out by the store? How long did your redemption request take?

      • +1

TT gave me invoice on email then i used that for redemption request whilst line trimmer n blower in post. 99% sure EGO sent hedge trimmer and it was express post, arrived 7 or 10 days later regionally which was pretty amazing.

  • These tools are amazing. I have the full set. The first battery went out. It lasted from the Masters days. Way cheaper than the amount of petrol I'd have burnt in that time, let alone the mess and trips to fill up. Power is unbelievable. Chainsaw is great. Love them all.

  • I only need the Line Trimmer and the battery + charger. If anyone is interested in the blower and/or Hedge Trimmer, please PM me. I am in Melbourne.

  • +1

Anyone got experience with aftermarket batts from Aliexpress? 6Ah for $150 is not bad

    • +2

Just ordered one (around $130ish after coupons)

This deal is my first foray into EGO so can't test until everything arrives (I also got the leaf vacuum/mulcher in my initial order to get me over $1k for the free 2.5ah battery so will use the bigger battery on this)

Would love to hear your opinion. Please keep us posted. Thanks.
