Hi Ozbargainers,

We've seen a huge uptick in sales volume for our core Hayfever relief range in the last few weeks, which I am quite surprised about as the weather hasn't really shown strong signs of Spring yet - so not sure if its because of our sharper than usual pricing as we clear stock for wholesalers or if there are other factors at play, but as anyone in sales and marketing knows, its best to ride the way of strong sales for as long as possible. With this in mind I thought I give this new(ish) to market product a bit of a trial on Ozbargain as a stand alone offering.

Dymista has been a market (performance) leader for the past few years but has struggled in sales particularly on our website due to (in our opinion) its very high price point when compared to standard nasal decongestants, mometasone and other nasal sprays.

Once more affordable alternates Misty Duo and other generic alternates like tonight's offering Allermist have come to market, volumes have increased - but to be frank not anywhere near the volume I thought they generate given the high performance of the product. So as a marketeer thinking about price elasticity and sales volumes I thought I would arm wrestle with our suppliers to try and offer the Allermist product at the very lowest possible price to see if a cheaper a price will spikes sales volumes. As many of you know from following my posts, if I can demonstrate volume to suppliers I can get cheaper price ongoing - but similar to a chicken and egg situation - what comes first, cheaper prices or higher volumes - in the world of pharmacy - no one wants to move first.

Anyway - in Ozbargain spirit, I thought I'd stock up on Allermist and be the first mover by giving it a go tonight, to see if there is demand and volume for ongoing offers of this product into the future.

    Does this come with those warnings of excess usage/dependency that come with other nasal sprays like Otrivin etc?

    Eg. Don’t use more than 3 days in a row etc?

      I'm no marine biologist, but no.

      It's completely different, and is mostly used in a somewhat ongoing medium to long term kind of way. But can still be really effective as a once- off use product.

      My understanding was the 3 days thing was for the nasal decongestants due to reliance and worsening bounce back. I was told to use dymista daily at one point by an ENT when I was younger as it's a continued use kind of thing

        I asked my doctor about this issue as well and Dymista isn't the same as a normal nasal decongestant like Drixine etc that will make a kickback effect after you stop using it. Dymista works best if you ramp it up over 48 hours apparently and apparently it is "ok" to use on daily basis.

        I don't like the idea of that (it's almost like an addiction habit), so I only use it during times when my nose "feels" a ton of pollen in the air and I need anti-allergies at that point. It is somewhat effective against my sinus issues when I do use it sporadically just to counter this.

    I've been using budesonide (Rhinocort) for years to great effect but there is no generic for it yet so it's expensive. Does this work in a similar way to budesonide?
