Can confirm 10% usually works and payment via GC as well.

    • What was that 10% btw?

      • +1

        Everyday Extra

        • Oh that one, thanks

  • Any idea with these ones how long you get to activate after purchase?

    • There’s an expiry date on the package. And I have activated a sim pack that expired for 3 years without any issues.

      • I’ll check it out thanks. Need about 2 months

    • +2

      Printed on packaging

Some are due within 6 months or less ( i usually find the longest dated and grab that)

Of course you may get more or even less data, but that is a risk I'm willing to take.

      • +1

        Agreed. Thanks

      • It said 30 days after purchase on the pack, or the expire date whichever is earlier , to receive advertised inclusions? So it will work later but data could change ?

        • +2

          Correct

Sometimes works in your favour had a sim i bought and the inclusions went up ( more data)

          Good luck.

    • Just got 1 expiry says Jan 2027

      • Yeah so did mine but it says activate within 30 days of purchase on back

  • able to receive sms when oversea ?

    • -2

      Yes

      • +3

Not with my Optus prepaid plan. I need the $10 flex credit add on which lasts for 14 days

        • +1

I heard you can activate roaming pack for $5 per day and then cancel after that.

        • +2

I'm on last years equivalent of this plan (300GB $320) and received texts overseas no issues without paying a cent.

          • @scaryspace: Consider yourself lucky. I was overseas and it didn't work on the same plan. My partner got it a few months before me, and she could receive SMS messages. Optus has changes T&C's.

        • +1

worked flawless with Coles mobile and Voda prepaid
$70 per text on the national carrier

        • I’m with Catch who uses Optus and I can receive SMS overseas.

      • +1

Not from my research? Unless things changed
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16559133/redir

        • -2

I definitely received SMS while in NZ, and no VoWiFi/LTE like I have had in the past on Boost.

      • -2

        Absolutely not unless you pay

        • I don't know what else to tell you mate. Optus don't even have a payment method from me so I wasn't charged a thing.

          • -2

@scaryspace: Don’t know what to tell you other than you’re lucky and it just isn’t true. This was in January of this in year in japan, for both myself and my partner. There’s been a lot of comments about it as well on ozbargain.

            • @dsar: SIM must be active to receive text overseas. If you are expired, they won't come.

              • +3

@singingwolf: If plan is active, SMS will come no issues. Both my and partner’s phones are on PP, mine with Optus and partner’s with Boost and we both get incoming SMS no issues and no roaming pack signed up for. We get SMS missed call notifications too. We just then end up calling back via wifi connectivity on WhatsApp if call missed from known callers.

    • 100% Confirmed NO!!

I have received in writing, from Optus complaints department that:
"based on the Critical Information summary "You cannot use your included calls, text and data if you are overseas. If you want to use your device while you’re overseas, there are a number of add-ons that can be purchased and used for roaming (excludes MMS). The inclusions and expiry will depend on the add-on that you purchase.

The same department (Onshore, Australia) has confirmed that only Post Paid customers are guaranteed delivery of SMS while overseas.

BTW, I was not even allowed to connect to local Mobile network until I paid for a roaming pack. If you consider this purchase, then, this is not a deal in my opinion. This comes from company who had my details compromised along millions of Australians without impunity. FU Optarse!!!

    • Only reason I'm with boost, not just incoming sms all time, but when on wifi you can make calls and send sms for free.

    • Interesting that people are saying you can't receive them. I was in Russia last week and received texts fine on this same deal, this was with roaming turned off.

      • Please take me with you next time you go 🙏

  • +4

Thanks just got one. Confirming discounted Macquarie GC works, despite the checkout person’s skepticism haha

    • Works out to $192.03 with 3.5% macquire gc rate.
Donno about checkout person skepticism. Valid gift card usage. Nothing wrong with it.

  • Does this plan include 5g?

    • +1

      Yes

  • damn only renewed amaysim the other day there still doing 4g 220gb a year for $200. this would have been the better deal though.

    • +1

Also worth contacting Amaysim next time and ask for a better deal. I renewed current plan (old 180gb and international calls) already two years at $100. I don’t think it’ll happen 3 years in a row lol. I’m a very light user (less than 10gb a month used), so not worth for me to pay $200 a year if I can get it cheaper.

      • Yeah i do haha, got $30 off this year think it was $50 last year. was hoping theyd be on 5g by now but its not a massive deal for me.

        • That’s pretty good then. You paid $170 and have data bank too I’m assuming? If your usage is about 200gb OnePass was doing $150 for one year and free 1 year one pass. Worth checking next time.

  • +4

If you dont have the woolies 10% you can sign up for 1 month, pay 7 bucks and get the discount, then cancel

    • +1

Get the discount four times! Twice this month, twice next.

      • I thought they charge on a calendar month basis?

        • There is an hack: book a click a collect using 10%. Before picking up the order go in store and do a normal shopping.

          • @fozzie: @FutureTech admittedly I have no experience with a month-to-month subscription.

In the past when I've created a new account and signed up for a trial, that trial is for 28 days. Therefore, if you sign up towards the end of a month, you then get access to both months discounts. Considering the cheapest monthly prepaid SIMs are <$10 it's a decent value proposition.

The only reason we have an everyday extra membership right now is because I forgot to cancel on one of my accounts but it was billed yearly. Bound to happen when you're playing this game

  • Damn just jumped on the prev Vodafone deal smh

  • Is 250Mbps speed cap a low limit though? I get at least double that on Telstra

    • Depends on what you do on the phone. I am on 4g with amaysim and I don’t think I get any of those speeds. Just normal browsing, music, satnav.

    • Telstra prepaid plans are 150Mbps only. (except the $59 / mth prepaid plan)

    • I have this plan. But the speed is capped at 150Mbps, even though it is advertised as 250Mbps.

  • Is it only for new customers?
For existing ones, need to port out and port in right

    • Yes, unfortunately that is the case.

      • How do you go about this?

  • +1

Isn't Vodafone with cash back better

    • +2

      Yes, but Vodafone….

      • You mean vodafail

    • I think everyones overly excited with the deal which is pretty good…but from personal experience, Optus is worse than Voda.

      • It depends entirely on where you live and work
Mid North Coast NSW - no voda at all, Telstra need to stand in corner of back deck to get any signal, Optus good.

  • Are people switching from amaysim eligible and is it an easy process?

    • Just went from Optus to Amaysim a few days ago
Was done and dusted within around an hour easily.

Going the other way sometimes means Optus tries to upsell to a better deal 😉

      • Going other way means switching from Amaysim to Optus?Does Optus try and upsell you when you are still a Amaysim customer?

        • When you go to Activate the "new" Optus sim on Optus website it says to call to activate.

That is where the upsell starts.
I just say not interested a few times.
Especially if you have paid for 12 months already.

Definitely not ideal and not sure if it happens to everyone?

  • Can I do a price beat at officework?

    • Yes, I think you should be able to.

  • +1

This is very tempting to not have to bother with SIM hopping every month, but my experience with Optus from the last months hop was awful - don't think I've ever dealt with such awful customer service. Only interested in upselling you to ridiculously priced plans rather than helping

    • also, ready my comment above.

    • +1

If you request a new provider to transfer your number to them, there shouldn't be any hassle moving away from any provider.

  • Waiting for this to be on special on Optus website which has 30% cashback. Would be an ideal deal.

Been on month to month from Beyond to Amaysim to Catch to Boost.

  • +2

Very expensive. With cash back these should be $120-$140.

    • +1

How is 300gb data 1 year plan @$199 expensive? You need to wait for the deal and activate within a month. If you can’t wait this deal it’s pretty good.

      • +1

i think its a good price with 5G and 300 GB stacked with EE goes down to 179. People always say things are too expensive but can never show a better deal today with the same offering or better, but instead show irrelevant out of date deals and think their statement is still valid or just go silent when challenged. This ones good comparably to many other deals given the instant saving and timing. im sure some banger deals may come out EOY but theres no guarantee, im happy with this. i refuse to cycle month to month either to wait for a good 365 deal, not worth the admin overhead for trivial savings

  • Is this standard 5G or can it use 5G+?

    • I don't think Prepaid is ever 5G+, but Optus doesn't seem to have the same congestion problems of Telstra resellers like Boost on 5G.
In a stadium type scenario Optus Postpaid 5G+ would be superior to Optus prepaid 5G, but ordinarily not a problem

      • Thanks. I'm using moose which an Optus reseller. I live in an area where 5G non standalone coverage is limited but 5G+ has more coverage. So I'm getting 4G with my phone. Was wondering if I'll get 5G using this.

  • I'm already with Optus and my plan ends next month I asked chatgpt how to manage this, can anyone confirm thus is true?

    Practical steps for you

Buy the SIM before the Woolies sale ends (you can usually hold onto a starter kit for a while — check the activation expiry on the pack, usually 12–24 months).

On 15 October (when your current plan ends), port out to a cheap SIM.

The same day or next day, activate the Optus $199 kit and port back in.

You’ll keep your number and get the new 365-day deal.

    • Sounds bout right. I would give it at least 24 hours to be safe

  • Can this be used with an iPad mini with cellular

    • sure can

  • I switched to optus almost 3
Months back and have experienced one of the the worst network/signal availability in/around my suburb in melbourne inner suburb. I expected optus to be 2nd best network, however, their network is worst and very very bad compared to even Vodafone and Boost, not even an inch closer to Telstra. So, be ready for such an experience and consider this risk before going with optus.

    • +1

I am in melbs too (close to Southbank) and I have been with Optus for years, before they had that big fail a while back and I decided it's time to give other networks a go. since then I had Vodafone for a year, and then Boost for a year, and I have to tell you Optus was actually the best around my area among them.

now that I will switch to Optus again sometime in October (on this deal SIM card) will see how things go. hopefully not downhill from where they were..

for instance, Vodafone would just leave me with no signal in odd places around Southbank and CBD, and would completely be gone when I get into elevator at home. Boost is better, but still completely dead in my elevator too. Optus has never been an issue in the elevator for instance. it had one weak spot near Kings way, but that's about it. keen to compare it again after 2 years on other networks.

  • thank you OP grabbed 2 for the family.

    • Why 2?

      • because I don't like to have everyone on the same network, after what happened to Optus a while back. we had all family on Optus including home broadband and we had no network any of us lol

        never again

        • Good point. Two persons travelling in the same car should have two networks.

  • I’m with Optus postpaid currently. Can i still switch to this?

And what happens when i need roaming with prepaid?

  • Whoops - used my 10% off in-store yesterday for a $70 purchase lol.

  • Is it Optus no longer allow receive SMS from overseas without roaming?

    • Isnt this allowed for all carriers?

      • Isnt this allowed for all carriers?

I used Boost before, I don't need roaming to receive SMS from overseas but some said Optus not allow this anymore.

        • Boost worked without any issues. After purchasing this due to Boost's price hike now I see people commenting you cannot receive sms's while overseas. What a nightmare when I have to receive OTPs to log into accounts.

  • Damn
    Just used my September 10%

Otoh - it was $310 shop, so I guess that was a better deal

  • +1

If you don't have Everyday Rewards Extra, which has the 10% off per month (that others confirm you can use on this card), you can use the free 30 day trial by signing up (then cancelling in a week or so). Everyday Rewards, and then the Extra tab. I picked monthly and then it confirmed the first month is free and they will warn me before the 30 days are up. (I still set a reminder)

If you search the Woolworths app for the sim, it's under Optus Sim (and not Optus 365 which I tried earlier).

Update: I opened my rewards app about 40 mins after joining; there is a tab called Extra. I can see I have a 30 day trial on and I can see my September 10% extra discount

    • Thanks OP and @Oh Daddy,
Just purchased mine (last one at Burwood East, Victoria). Discount code worked fine even though I only joined up a couple hours before hand.

  • +3

Thanks OP for sharing & advice from others about EE. Joined the 30 days trial as advised. With that 10% discount plus existing $10 off rewards this 300gb only cost $169.

  • I am currently on Coles Mobile expiring in 17 days and bought this Optus pack.

Will I be able to do smooth porting from Coles to Optus since coles uses Optus network too? Or should I temporarily switch to some non-Optus network first?

    • +1

I don’t think you’ll have any problems to be honest. I moved across mvnos and same network no problem. For example Catch to amaysim and Lebara to Vodafone. Never an issue.

  • +1

Just got two of these, thanks!
