I will probably try these again when they go half price.

The last time I tried Yo-Chi, the tub fill lines were quite low (below 3/4 fill), and the weights were below also. Lots of ice on top, and the production dates were over a year old (even though the best before dates were still OK).

I would never pay full price for these - $9.50 is just too much - it is just an OK frozen yoghurt.

In my opinion, the Aldi frozen yoghurt tasted better and was below the half price of Yo-Chi (not sure if Aldi still bring this in on their alternating cycles though).

I would be interested to hear if anyone else thinks these are special. The linked article has them being an in demand product - the packaged item is probably different to the item purchased directly from Yo-Chi stores?

    • A comment about the store's yoghurt here.

Have you tried the açai one from Woolworths. ?? That stuff is good

      • Açaí in yoghurt?? Heresy!!

    • What was the weight supposed to be?

      • 500 ml

        • Weight of 500ml frozen yo-chi?

They have pretty comprehensive nutritional info on their site now, finally

      https://www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au/retail/cafes-restaurant…

the business operates as part of a chain of food businesses that share the same trading name and share a consistent or uniform menu that includes standard food items, and
the standard food items include RTE, takeaway products, and
trade under a shared trading name and branding with 20 or more outlets in NSW, or 50 or more outlets nationally.

Just realising that they didn't have that many stores until recently so it makes sense to not publish the info until they needed to. Probably a tactical move considering the Boost Juice founder/'s sons own it?

I love yochi but I hope nobody thought it was actually healthy, especially considering the toppings available… The whole process makes me happy though as I really enjoy choosing what to put in the cup, with a little bit of gambling psychology mixed into it when it comes to the price 😅

  • Cant find ingredients list for the natural version on coles website which is very unlike Coles or Woolies which is a bit sus.
Mango flavour ingredients lists Maltodextrin and vegetable gums as thickeners, the former is a known very high GI ingredient i.e causes significant blood sugar spike while the later are known to cause future digestive issues.

Pic of package here. Unfortunately also has Maltodextrin and Vegetable Gums.

It appears Yo-Chi have been secretive about their ingredients. Coles and Woolworths probably wouldn't have been allowed to publish on their websites.

the natural’s ingredients don’t read natural at all with added 471 which ‘kills’ gut microbiome leading to bloating and mood swings in the longer run.

        • +2

And let's also not forget there's barely anything natural about ✌🏼natural flavours✌🏼

      • Vegetable Gums.

        So it's healthy…

  • Hmm - Instore it is sold by weight, whereas here it is being sold by volume.

  • Umm don't see it marked down in store?

    • This offer starts tomorrow Wed to Tue as per post description.

  • Obtained the Mango. Was full to the brim was not icy and had a 2027 best before date. Texture of a light frozen mango mousse. Flavour of artificial mango.

I have no idea why frozen yoghurt stores are full of people spending more than a cup of coffee for something less satisfying but presumably it's similar concept to premium pricing where people can't help themselves to fund the marketers salary.

At half price I'm not disappointed I tried it but don't see it as a bargain at all.

Peel a ripe mango. Cut the cheeks off and slice and place in the freezer. Much better flavour low sugar and better the environment with no plastic or other packaging.

My partner brings up these exact points sometimes as they're not a fan of yochi and grumbles when we walk past the stores so we end up in a routine friendly debate lol 😅 Here are some of my thoughts, in no particular order:

      • Their in-store froyo is much better but it makes sense to leverage the brand to step into the grocery market with a basic product too

      • You can't really make or buy proper in-store style froyo at home without extra stuff, like soft serve ice cream?

      • Our local store is usually busiest at night and I think it's because it's one of the very few "third spaces" for non-drinkers and families. It's hard to find another welcoming well-lit venue with seating to hang out with your friends after 9pm on a Saturday night that doesn't involve alcohol/caffeine, isn't a fast food joint that's about to get messy, and only costs $10ish per person. Plus it's easy for everyone to pay for what they order with no fuss or awkwardness, and to not order if they don't want to.

      • Hot tip: they have free chilled water taps (still and sparkling) and they don't make you feel weird about filling up your bottle, even if you're not a customer, which was a godsend in summer.

      • You could probably also use your own containers and weigh it beforehand and their in-store packaging is all compostable I think? Makes me feel a bit better even if it's just performative greenwashing for marketing. They also use Beechworth honey which I like to support. Hope that continues!

      • They sell their own branded bowls that gets you 10% off each time, which is definitely gimmicky, but I don't see many places offering a discount like that any more.

      • Good for different dietary requirements and picky eaters, and they've got decent options if you've got someone who's lactose intolerant in the group…

      • As a relatively thrifty person, I'm always surprised by how much enjoyment I get from froyo. I'd personally be much more satisfied spending $10+ at yochi than $5+ on a coffee.

      • I don't think the pricing is extra premium and it's pretty inline with dining out these days unfortunately ($20+ burger and fries, $20+ cocktails, $6+ bubble tea, $15+ salad, $6+ scoop of gelato), especially for people who don't track discounts or bargains.

      • I'm not a shill for yochi, just tired of people coming for froyo shops because it's not for them. Overconsumption is definitely an issue but that's a bigger problem in general and please just let the young people enjoy their desserts when they're out and about 😭

(Edit: I'm hungry and this is much more than I intended to type, sorry!)

  • are these trendy ?

    • Absolutely. Always a long queue at the 3 stores I've seen. Seems to be trendy to have Yo-Chi pics on IG.

      • i only came across the name when i was browsing ios app store yesterady

just checked maps no yochi stores near my area

        • Don't think they exist on Uranus 😀

          • @trixieb: lol some towards the CBD of uranus and the google ratings are 4.5+ and close at 11pm
