AKG N5 Hybrid TWS Noise Cancelling Earbuds $139 (Was $349) + Delivery @ JB Hi-Fi / $139 Delivered (White Model Only) @ Amazon AU

90

Similar to the N9 deal, this could be an online only deal. Tried other postcodes but all coming back as no stock for C&C

Credit to the comment for hinting about another AKG on sale :)

Amazon is having it for $139 delivered for the white model only

Rated as 4.5 stars by Tom’s Guide

Enjoy!

    • Can pay $29.9

Can increase the offer to $35 if you remove the giant AKG from the buds.

      • Why pay so odd number in cents… I counter your offer with $30 :P

    • No deal.

  • Ordered some. Of they are as good as the N9 I will be over the moon.

    • Better tuning out of the box but needs tweaks in the mid-treble, but yes the dongle is the same, unlocking LC3 Plus connectivity.

Don't have first hand experience but the driver technology is fundamentally the same despite the obvious decrease in size.

      • Hi jasswolf, how would you personally tweak these in the mid-treble? The app has a multi-band EQ, although it's a little finicky to use.

It looks like they're tuned very closely to Harman IE 2019 for 5128… but I may be wrong here, as it's not my area of expertise.

This reviewer did a great job with the N9 analysis and EQ, so I'd back them to get this right as well. Start with the studio EQ and see how you go from there.

The multi-band EQ remains fixed at the specified frequency points despite the UI suggesting otherwise. Their suggestion seems to be to cut the bass a bit, then raise 500-2kHz by 1 dB to dampen the impact of the slight bump at 3kHz and then dial down slightly at 8kHz. Compare and contrast the custom and the Studio EQ, and then if you like the custom, nudge it around based on your own preferences/HRTF.

Other than that, I would turn Spatial Sound off.

@jasswolf: Thanks for the detailed response, I'll give this a go and see how it goes.

  • Waiting for amazon to match the n9

  • Bought one from Amazon some time ago for $250 before I lost it.

Mainly got it for the dongle. However the Bluetooth and dongle connection doesn't automatically switch, which made life a little harder.
    * Didn't really dive into the sound quality but nothing really wowed me at the time
    * Finish was good quality
    * Noise cancelling was average, pass-through not fantastic

Overall, meh. But at this price point I don't think you can do better if you wanted a dongle.
