International flights have usually been on time.

      • +2

Flights to and from Australia have been a joke too. Same as their insurance, the BaoViet insurance they use don't even want to pay you out for delays and cancellation.

Warning, please be aware that vietjet are ending direct flights to Hanoi very soon:

    https://australianaviation.com.au/2025/09/vietjet-shifts-all…

    • so bad. Their price for those routes has been quite competitive

    • Well, that makes sense. I had direct flights booked in mid-late October & had to adjust my itinerary.
Now booked on the last direct flight from Melb to Hanoi 04/10.

    • Yup. They messed up my January trip for next year. Now I have a 4 hour transit via HCM and I need to rebook my connecting flight. Annoying, especially since I paid extra to fly direct rather than via HCM.

  • Hey is it 3am tomorrow it starts or midnight?

    • +2

Set your alarm to wake up in the middle of night, just to get disappointed that you didn’t secure the seats and be cranky at work tomorrow cuz you didn’t get enough sleep lol

    • Midnight in Vietnam so 3am our time.

      $141.17 total

  • Is this for economy flights only?

  • +5

I tried to take advantage of a similar sale recently and the code (that was plastered all over their website) didn't work on any flight, on any dates, on any destinations (I followed all the T&Cs).

I had waited for the sale then spent ages trying it on different devices, browsers etc. Nothing worked. I couldn't get through to customer service and my email enquiry was never answered. Was pretty disappointed.

  • +13

This is kinda pointless. There's already $3.04 USD flights from Melbourne to Ho Chi Minh City. The issue is the taxes add 117.35 USD… This sale can give you 99% off the $3.04 so that will save you a grand total of $3… Thats like saving 3% of the total cost…

  • I tried similar deal last year, most of the flight costs are taxes.so 99% off won't reduce much of total.

Another thing to note that I can only see flights till end of March from Vietnam to Perth not till May.

  • Is the deal 100% not available during school holiday periods? If yes, I can sleep now.

    • +1

You can look at your dates now, The discount (if available) will be against the fare cost not the taxes and fees. If 99% off the fare cost will make it affordable to you to book then you might want to stay up and try… IMO this discount is actually tiny as nearly all the cost is in taxes and fees and therefore staying up is pointless.

      • It looks like the promo applied to those super low fares only. So, instead of $5, you're paying $0. Nice.

scam, only $4 "SALE" for $500 ticket Lmao

  • +1

SYD to SGN return seems to be about $150 less than the usual price. Not worth it for me for an unplanned trip

  • +1

Even worse then extreme low expectations i had. Dont waste your time.

  • -1

It works!!! Got a return flight January Syd - HCMC for $566, insane prices. Thanks Vietjet!

  • I was a bit salty because I just booked a BNE - SGN flight last week and upon checking it's now $63 more expensive for the same flight lol.

Worst airline. Always delayed (I went on 4 flights recently in Vietnam and they were all delayed by 3+hrs, flight home back to aus delayed by 23hrs) and no compensation provided. Even the vietnamese avoid this airline like a plague.

    • +1

Do they? Because their profits and passenger numbers have been steadily climbing for years. I've flown VietJet numerous times both internationally and in Vietnam and have never had any fights that were particularly more delayed than any other airline.

    • +2

It’s a shame you encountered so many delays, I’d be pissed too. I’ve not experienced any and have had only good experiences with VietJet, especially the cabin crew.

They’ve made getting to VN so accessible now, return for sometimes under $400 is incredible.

  • The worst! They delay until you miss your connection. Then you book another flight with a different airline. Also they will never refund. Ask a local they have no pity they say " why did you book with Vietjet?". Like it's the stupidest thing in the world.

  • Anyone else finding the code doesn't work? I've tried multiple dates for Melb to HCM in Jan 2026 which isn't in the restricted dates here and it still isn't applying any discount. I've also selected eco class tickets.

    • It doesn't guarantee to have a promo even if it's out of the blocked period. Right? The fare is $0 from 26-1-20 to 26-1-31 ex MEL. The original price is $4.63.

      • Yup, that's pretty much what I just realised. Basically a nothing deal. Even in March 2026 and choosing dates with deals, you end up saving ~$10 as the base fare is just a few dollars anyways. Wasted my time trying to find good dates.

        • +1

This deal is nothing but I like the web design of this airline. It's easy to find a deal as it shows the lowest possible price in a month. Certainly, you will come home empty. Just help you waste less time.

  • There is no place to put the promo code.

Are we saying that 99% will apply to base price..i am looking at tickets for 4 in dec. Base tickets are coming to $1800

    • You can enter the promo code on the first search screen. You can try MEL-SGN and see how it works first.

  • -2

Dodgy. Mel to Hanoi came up as $438 one way and opened same dates and route in another tab and price went up to $698.

  • It’s just a fake promotion — the price stays the same whether you use the promo code or not. You can check it yourself! Dodgy promotion to trick people and it is not the first time they do this.

    • Fake promotion is an everyday life. You can see it every week with the so-called 1/2 price sales in the supermarkets.

  • +1

$5 off is not a 99% off like they said. Misleading promotion. Had to log in to give them a thumbs down

  • +1

ACCC should step in and issue them a hefty fine for misleading information. They seem to think they can carry out the same dodgy business practices in Australia as they do in Vietnam.

  • These discounts have never existed in any of their previous shytey sales.

I will actively never fly on them just due to this false, misleading advertising.

$5 off $400 is not 99% off anything.

  • Anyone knows where to enter the promo code? There is only one place for entering a voucher (needs PIN and password)

    • On flight search page itself. Thought it's another thing that promo code isn't of use.

  • In honour of the 9-dash line?

  • +1

flew vietjet once, showed up at my destination 5 hours later than i expected (AT 2AM).

    never again

  • Thanks OP but that website is simply atrocious!
