Airtasker, some public libraries have units for use
I've only done it once but used https://craftcloud3d.com/ . Upload the STL file, select plastic type, select colour, select infill amount, pay, then wait for it to be sent to you. A guy in Merda ended up printing mine and sent it via AusPost.
Note:
- most vendors will have a minimum order size so you may as well order 4 or 6 prints of your file in case one breaks in the future.
- different plastics have different strengths, consult ChatGPT for advice.
Don't consult ChatGPT for anything. It is a language model, results for anything engineering related are mostly made up.
On this topic, anyone know how where to get full service?
I have a plastic car part I need scanned, modified and printed.

😲
Happy Ending? @jv
That’s where it gets expensive, We have a 3D scanner at work, but (fropanity) me, was it expensive. Added to that, the CAD work involved could take hours and you could be paying $120+p/h just in CAD work alone.
I do a lot of automotive CAD design work for brackets and mounts and parts, etc, and I can spend a whole day just drawing up one part, and that’s before I even print it.
I do hobbyist level CAD in my spare time for people, but they still shit an fall back in it when they want a small, pretty complex part designed thinking it will be $5, but the CAD time alone is going to run them about $150+. If they want 300 of these parts, not a problem. If they want one, $230 doesn’t look so appealing.
As a hobbyist still struggling with the scan to CAD workflow. Any tips to make it suck less?
Would you be willing to pay postage?
sure, i might do 2-3 of them if its no issue?
Many public libraries in Melbourne have 3D printers; usage arrangements and fees vary; credit to @singlemalt72 who posted already
Post the same question in the 3d printing thread on whirlpool. Someone will offer to do it for free. I'd do it for free if you were in Adelaide.
there's a 3d thread on WP?
I'd do it for free for you but I'm in Williamstown. But I do work in southbank of that helps
What do you want it in (PLA, PETG, ABS, etc…) and what colour?
So many people with 3D printers here, someone should be able to help.
You can always see if anyone is selling 3D printed widgets in your area and ask them to quote you on printing.
I do a lot of printing here for people, and most of it is just random shit they find on places like Thingiverse… shouldn’t more than about $5 each, if that. It’s about $1 in filament and a few bucks for machine run time.
do they find you from facebook marketplace?
Not really. I get on my local “something something and surrounds” notice board and there are often people asking about 3D printing services. I tend to go out and find them. After that it’s basically word of mouth. A lot of customers I have are referrals from others I have printed parts for.
nice, will check it out.
just needs to be hard, doesn't matter what colour it is. It's an mini arcade joystick part which has failed.
Is it a soft flexible Plastic, or hard?
hard. which filament should be used?
PETG or ABS.
It only took 26 minutes to print in ABS at 100% strength.
Part still seems quite flimsy. One of the tabs, came off quite easilly.
i get mine done from randoms on fbmp
really cheap
