Last time I flew with them, from Sydney, you could have a free stopover in Haikou. Took the high speed train to Sanya (other side of island) - it's a nice tropical Chinese destination. Helps if you speak Chinese.
Flight out to Sydney was like 2am in the morning, last flight in the airport, place was very quiet, except for another flight to Korea which was like 1 hour before.
They did postpone one of our flights because of a cyclone (was in September), maybe check when is cyclone season in Haikou.
