I rate Inghams new sweet chilli tenders at Coles. From memory I didn't think these were better but am I just remembering wrong? Anyone tried both and can tell me I'm dreaming?

    • +7

Had them recently, were mostly breading and even partially hollow. Very little chicken inside.

      • +11

        Ingredients
        Chicken (40%)

Not a surprise, whereas the post is 64% which is amongst the best I've seen.

        Edit: Searched a few others:
Aldi 400g Crumbed Chicken Tender is 55%
Aldi 1kg Southern Style Tenders is 47%
Aldi 1kg Sweet Chilli Tenders is 50%
Aldi 400g Original Crumb Tenders is 54%

Steggles 1kg Classic Crumb is 44%

Family Faves 1kg Classic Crumb is 36%

Inghams 1.5kg Crumbed Chicken Tenders is 50%

Coles 400g RSPCA Approved Chicken Tenders Southern Fried is 71%
Coles 400g Frozen Sweet Chilli Chicken Tenders is 63%

Woolworths 400g Classic Crumb Chicken Tenders is 68%
Woolworths 1kg Crumbed Chicken Breast Tenders is 72%

        • +4

Yep. Key point is that there's plenty of chicken tenders that are cheaper, some of them taste pretty good, but these are very high in chicken content and as a result better protein to carbs/fat ratio.

          • +2

@p32h8h9sedf: Yeah, except I think I did an oopsie with the Woolworths one. It is listed as 72% RSPCA approved "chicken portion", but then further breaks it down to 90% chicken. Thats a bit scammy imo. However, I can't edit the comment anymore.

RSPCA Approved Chicken Portion (72%) (Chicken Breast (90%), Water, Thickener (1442), Rice Flour, Salt, Mineral Salt (451,508,450))

          • +2

@p32h8h9sedf: 64% is high in chicken content..??????? …LOL
            $16.80 / kg

raw chicken breast $9/kg 100% chicken… panfry it and add spices easy

  • +3

They were the same price last week at Coles

    • +2

Ah, guess no one posted it. Would have been good to stack with the Flybuys 4 Week Spend offer.

  • +11

Are these good, KFC doing 10 for $10 already made. Am i too early where are the professional chicken eaters

    • +3

These are pretty good. Can confirm I didnt have high hopes, but was pleasantly surprised. My absolute favorite are still the Habanero wings by Steggles, but those never go on special and these are a pretty good alternative.

I also doubt the 10 kfc tenders are anywhere close to 500gms of chicken.

      • Okay thank you, that's all the confidence i needed to make a purchase appreciate it

      • I love those (Habanero wings by Steggles). Haven't been on special for a very very long time now. Even with the special they only knock off $1 or 2$ off the retail.

    • +9

This is chicken portions. Mostly bone and crumbing

    • +5

Those aren't tenders, they are wings and drumsticks and thighs from memory

    • -1

Thanks for the post, waiting for them to go back to $7 on sale :(

  • +1

Meanwhile you can buy actual chicken for less than $5 a kilo and throw on a bit of chicken salt.

    • +1

even chicken breast on special at less then $10/kg …. dont get why you get negged for telling the truth.. .

i find this site to be bias…

      • +1

Because you're comparing plain chicken to something that already has seasoning and crumbing. Throwing on some MSG doesn't compare to these.

        • +1

Throwing on some MSG doesn't compare to these.

You do realise that there are herbs and spices available in Colesworth (and other shops) for your own, private, purchase, right?

        • so thats you justifying your point - throwing on msg…. lol Sounds stupid to me when all spices and seasonings are readily available from the same place you buy these products from…

  • +1

    64% chicken

  • Nashville/Louisiana what is the difference?

    • +1

      Nashville are the spicy ones.

    • -2

They both spicy. Nashville also suppose to have a hint of sweetness from brown sugar.

      • +10

Nothing remotely spicy about the Louisiana one. Salty AF yes.

Unless you find pepper "spicy" too.

        • Your right no chilli on the ingredients list even though Louisiana seasoning is suppose to have chilli.

        • Yeah.. pretty much what I remember of it was how saltish it was.

        • +2

          mcdonalds sprite too spicy

    • I prefer the coating of the Nashville.
Louisiana seems saltier with more flavour. More or a crumb type coating

They're both "spicy" (or at least they're supposed to be)

    • +1

Nashville is a city in Tennessee, which is a state in the USA, whereas Louisiana is a state in the USA

One is a city the other is a State.

    • Not sure about the tenders but with the burgers Louisiana is actual chicken where Nashville has the consistency of nuggets.

      The Louisiana burgers are excellent.

  • I like the Tegal's grilled chicken burgers - despite the whole formed meat thing, I mean I buy this stuff for taste not health :P - but they seem to be rarely on special these days. Any similar alternatives with other brands?

  • +3

Are these as bad as the whole chicken pieces?

    • +1

Bit harsh, they taste great and are convenient for a fix

      • I agree with Jono
        Whole pieces are not great.

Might try the Nashville tenders tho.

  • i rate these 3/10… pass

    • Is that both flavours ?

      @nasesco72

      • yes - bought from costco - returned after first bite

        • Thanks will pass.

@snappy1234: Trusting a single random person in this thread rather than the 110+ upvotes?

That's some terrible judgement right there.

These things are delicious and an easy contender for the best frozen chicken you can get from Colesworth.

            • @studentl0an: Depends on how sensitive you are to the flavour of salt. To me they taste like salt with the mild flavour of chicken and some spices.

              • @the discombobulated panda: 110+ upvotes dude.

The community has spoken. The guy should try them before knocking them because a few people didn't like them.

The Nashville are quite salty but the Louisiana is KFC on a budget.

            • @studentl0an: Yeah shocking eh !

Maybe you missed my earlier agreement about the pieces.

So will definitely NOT get these.

Salty is all you can taste lots of peeps seem to agree.

  • +1

    Nasty

  • I think these are nice but not anywhere near the original price for only 500grams.
This is what the price should be.

  • +4

Helly yea, I'll tell my mum to pick up some chiky tendies

  • Anyone else find the breading on these to be excessively salty? I have an unhealthy obsession with tendies so I was excited to try these. They're still better than most, but damn so salty.

    • yep lots of water before bed. I add an air fried tender to fancy home made ramen - rate it highly

    • +1

Last time I had them I returned them to Woolies. Salty AF. Couldn't eat them. :(

      • Decided to check out the ingredient list:

        • Chicken (64%)
        • Water
        • Flour (Maize, Wheat)
        • Vegetable Oil
        • Thickeners: 412, 415, 1420
        • Salt
        • Mineral Salts: 339, 450, 451, 452, 500
        • Spices: Paprika, Chilli, Pepper, Celery

So there is more salt than there is flavour there and, apparently, those mineral salts, in part, would help enhance saltiness.

        That explains that. Meh.

        • yes people like to eat crap and then discuss chicken content…LOL so contradicting

  • +3

These with Mission brand mini street soft tacos, lettuce, and knock-off pepper mayo are a pretty damn good home made pepper mayo KFC slider.

  • Never tried the tenders but the chicken pieces for the Nashville was excessively hotter than what the discreet packaging suggests. I would assume the coating is the same.

Just a warning for those who intend on serving these to kids.

    • +1

Maybe those kids need to toughen up

  • Ingham’s 1.5kg Sweet Chilli Chicken Tenders are the best value and tasting.

  • Mystery meat!

  • somethings happened to these since I last had them. they're not the same.

    • not the same how?

      • the coasting doesn't seem as thick or crunch.

    • How long ago was that?

      • some time around the beginning of this year was the last time I got them.

  • +2

Tried these after seeing so much comments.

Salty as Faaaaarrggggg……. but addictive… Like poor man's KFC popcorn chicken.

Just make sure you accompany them with instant mash, or some plain frozen fries.

Handy for a snack attack much like when you grab a popcorn chicken to go cup from KFC.

Not the sort of stuff you have regularly. I'll keep a bag or two in the freezer.

  • For burgers how is "Steggles Chicken Breast Burgers Southern Style" compared to Tegel's?
They both seems to contain Chicken Breast Fillet (60%).

Governing bodies should make it law to state whether the product is natural or formed tenders.

    Will only ever buy natural.
