    Is it good for PS5?

    • Yes

Great find! any recommendation for something cheaper/1TB?

  • +3

Might want fix title, 2280 not 2230.

  • Did the price jump up to $240?

    • +1

      30% discount applies in checkout

      • Thanks mate, something odd must have happened the first time i tried but see it now :)

  • Anyone know if this will fit a Gigabyte x870 aorus motherboard?

Do I need anything else to make it work fine? Or is it simply just shoving it in the slot?

    • +5

Not sure about the fit, but for any new ssd you will have to initialise it. After you plug it in, the drive won't show up in your file explorer. Search up 'disk management new ssd' and there are plenty of guides. Just something that would have helped me when I was setting up a new ssd for the first time.

Will fit, will get full speed in any slot. Just check your motherboard manual to see which slot is best to use. Using in certain slots may reduce bandwidth of your GPU pcie slot

    QLC 🤮🤮

    • How is the QLC these days compared to 2 years ago?

Qlc are for heavy read while older tlc are for frequent write.

      • +3

It's the same technology, so nothing will change. It's so bad for those that always do massive sustained writes like myself.

        • -2

I was waiting for someone to link a different SSD than this. The main change is the better controller which will improve performance than what you're seeing in that review supposedly.

          • @Clear: Regardless, it's QLC. Once you hit the pSLC cache no controller can save you from the abysmal performance of QLC flash memory.

            • +5

@dfg555: good QLC direct write is still better than bad TLC, even high-end TLC on hardware implementation.

SN5000, any ymtc 232L QLC etc. are all able to sustain 400-500mb/s, perfectly fine for daily use.

Compare this to the crucial T500 (TLC + Dram, priced as high-midrange gen4) that drops down to 150mb/s due to cheaping out on the multiplexer and the modern QLC stuff seems like rocketships.

Go one step down and then you have the P3 Plus, which uses Micron 232L B58R TLC, the same stuff in top of the line gen4 drives, but somehow runs at 200mb/s sequential, making it slower than any modern CMR 7200rpm HDD…

if you care about direct write and the system not turning into a brick past cache exaustion just get a lexar nm790, any phison e26 based drive or Intel Optane (lol) anyways.

@HPdeskjet: I'm glad to see someone who gets it 😏

Until I get myself into video editing I guess I will be in the same boat.

Are you sure this is the upgraded version? Isn't this the OG version?

  • is this good for portable storage like throw it in a ugreen encasement? or better to do with a 2.5" traditional hdd

    • -4

Stick with the traditional 2.5s… This would be wasted in an external case.

    • I think an SSD would be smaller, lighter and more durable than a spinning disk.

I have a couple of Samsung T7 that I like.

SD cards are also an option if portability is the most important thing.

Got one for $150 through amazon business, and $5 off through business visa.

Don't know what affiliate marketing garbage this is.

    NM790 is $188

    Crucial P3 Plus is $178

    Klevv Cras c910 is $158

If the only defence is, "show me which drive does 7400mbps at $167, then please enjoy your ORIGO THE COAT by all means..

    • Mwave and MSY don't offer free delivery. Amazon does.

    • +2

Not sure if the Klevv SSDs still get that 20% failure rate base on the previous Oz post lol

      • +2

Damn that’s an extremely high failure rate.

  • Not sure on the differences between this and the "pro" version, but that was $187 recently.

I got it with an amazon business account with the one off $100 off with a general parts buy, if thats an option for sole traders with an ABN

ORICO IG740-PRO 2TB M.2 NVMe Enterprise SSD, PCIe 4.0- Up to 7400MB/s, 2280 PCIe 4.0X4 Internal Solid State Drive, Support LDPC ECC, SE, AES, Compatible with Laptop, POS Terminal, Automotive System

My main system has been on that for months, it's fast and reliable so far.

  • I don't need such fast speeds, for my use cases, PCIe 3.0 speeds are more than enough.
I keep checking if any cheaper older nvmes appear on sales, bit they rarely do.
    Anyone on similar boat?

    • The price difference between making PCIe 3 and 4 is probably pretty minimal these days. Maybe just go for one of these if it's cheaper since they're backwards compatible.

No DRAM, will slow down once SLC cache full
