Official T&Cs

Offer is only valid for new customers during their first year. Discount will apply to one service line. Customers who change their plan, cancel their service, or are suspended will lose their promotional pricing. The service promotional offering varies by location. Other terms and conditions may apply. Terms and duration are subject to change.

Both offers end on the 23rd of October.

Its back and better than ever! After the previous deal expired at the start of the month, its on again, but just over 70% off!

Got questions? Check on other deals that it hasn't been answered before. A lot of questions come up every deal.

It is for any location, plus there is $20/mo off any Residential Plan for your first 12 months. But you need to factor in that some locations have a congestion charge (like SE QLD).

Retailers are yet to price drop.

If you order it from Starlink using the referral process/links via OzBargain, you can get 1 Free Month! (Pay the 1st month, get a credit for the 2nd month). Applies to pretty much all plans. If you buy from a retailer, you are not eligible for 1 month free. Delivery from Starlink is usually quick. Had one to VIC in 48 hours, most come within a few days via Australia Post.

This is more suited for homes and businesses with fixed locations. If you are WFH or running a business, go the $139 Residential Plan, not the lite plan. If you want roaming, then sure, you can get this kit and use it for travelling. But it is a bit of a pain as it requires 240V or the DC-DC power supply at $180 AUD. The standard kit has high power requirements and consumption compared to the Mini. If you want something for travelling, go the Mini (currently $599) which can run on 12V and is an all in one solution (dish + router/wifi etc all in one).

Speed Tests of the Gen 3 Standard Kit can be found here including Latency, Residential Lite speed test can be found here. If you want to see a comparison of Residential Home vs Residential Lite, that can be found here.

Also month to month speed test comparison available here demonstrating that since October 2024, speeds have been getting faster and faster month on month.

Two Residential Plan Option:

  • Residential - The most popular plan for typical residential customers. Unlimited data.
  • Residential Lite - An affordable option for smaller households and lower internet usage. Unlimited deprioritised data. Speeds may be lower than our Residential service at peak hours.

Some key points that often come up in discussion.

  • Already on NBN FTTP?
Stay put. A dedicated fibre link still gives the lowest latency, faster download/upload speeds, and gigabit-class throughput—perfect for streaming, gaming, and business workloads.

  • On NBN FTTN or NBN FTTC?
Check here to see if you are eligible to get NBN FTTP.

  • On NBN Fixed Wireless, or NBN Satellite?
Starlink will almost always deliver a noticeably faster, more consistent connection—as long as you have a clear view of the sky.

  • Why FTTP is hard to beat
Fibre’s \~1–5 ms latency and high upload head-room simply can’t be matched by any satellite service, including Starlink. If you can order FTTP, it remains the gold standard.

  • Why Starlink shines everywhere else
Where fibre isn’t available, Starlink sidesteps ageing copper loops and congested wireless towers, providing city-like download speeds (often 150–300 Mbps) and far lower latency than legacy NBN Satellite.

  • Bottom line for regional users
In most rural areas, Starlink is the best upgrade path over Fixed Wireless or Satellite NBN—bringing reliable, high-speed internet to places the fibre rollout hasn’t reached.

You would need to do it under a new account. Cannot use an existing account.

Offer is only valid for new customers during their first year

You could use your referral code from your "old" account. Sign up for a new one using the referral code and then you get a free month on the new account.

  • Why Starlink plans can't be cheaper?

Another option is 4G home plan that costs half the price. Speed is 25 capped. Good enough for everyday. Starlink also has no promised speed. Not many people want/can afford to pay over $100 a month for the internet unless no choice. Curious how much they charge in the 3rd world countries?

    • +1

If you cannot get or have unreliable NBN, you are most likely in an area that has poor phone coverage. So that isn't an option.

Also, the issue with 4G is when there is an outage in areas on NBN or power. Everyone jumps on 4G and it becomes useless. Or if there is an event in a town, they have lots of visitors then using the capacity of the 4G. So you have no internet.

Not many people want/can afford to pay over $100 a month for the internet unless no choice.

The plan is $79 per month for the Lite (which is an RRP of $99). Whilst some NBN offers are cheaper than that, it is still competive on pricing.

People also are happy to pay to get better value. Starlink offers and changes the way people do things. I have countless stories and feedback on how Starlink has changed people work and live where NBN or other services were very unreliable.

We compare 2 things when both are same available in the area. Starlink are way more expensive per dollar value. We currently have a $60/m deal for NBN 500. I don't think Starlink light plan is anywhere near.

In remote areas, I agree that Starlink is better. But it will also better in price with a real competitor like Tesla and BYD.

Elon is becoming a trillionaire soon. Thanks for all the "Pay Extra" supporters.

I believe the average people only need speed 100 and should pay $50 for the internet.

  • Can I use this unit when camping, or is it really only for when you're stationary?

Is this a 12 month lock-in contract or can I cancel and renew only for the months when I got camping?

    • You can use the unit when camping, but you need 240v or the DC-DC Power Supply for 12v. You would need a decent 12v and solar setup.

You would also need the Roaming Plan. The discounted hardware is only for residential plans. If you select Roaming, it goes back to the RRP price and you may as well spend extra to get the Mini.

Is this a 12 month lock-in contract or can I cancel and renew only for the months when I got camping?

As per T&Cs Customers who change their plan, cancel their service, or are suspended will lose their promotional pricing.

      • Could I put in a service address for a holiday house im staying in for a week soon, use it there, then cancel after, and just reactivate if i need it again? Delivered to my home address.

So all Id be up for is $79 for one month + $149 for the hardware?

And just activate on the $80 Roam plan when i want to use it again?

    Starlink is great for rural.

I’m in metro Melbourne and had some neighbours switch to Starlink which made no sense to me at all. The whole block is FTTP and you can even choose between NBN and Opticomm. They all drive Teslas too lol. Brand power is strong in this one.

    • +2

I had someone want something similar, and they were like, "I want to be off-grid and not rely on main utilities". He had Telsa Battery and Car. Then borked at the price I quoted. He was like, "Its an easy job, why so much?". If it is so easy, then do it yourself.

I've done a few Starlink installs for people on FTTP, and it's because they have issues with it. As much as I try to convince them not to and that FTTP is best, they still insist, and if they are going to pay my bill, then sure, I'll do it.

      • "I want to be off-grid and not rely on main utilities"

They might as well go with 5G, because Star Link still needs a ground station not too far away - you’d definitely need a ground station still in Australia.

        • +2

There are about 3 to 4 ground stations in VIC. You are more likely to have issues with 5G, than Starlink. Starlink is still the best for this specific use, not 5G.

          • @geekcohen: I made my point poorly, but this is actually what I mean: you will never be able to go fully off-grid if you want an internet connection. You will need to rely on something nearby. Nice of course that there is no physical cable running into your house.

        "baulked" ;)

  • What's the min cost to get this as a ROAM unit in Standby mode and using a referral?

    1: Kit cost = $149 Delivered
    2a: First month = $79 Residential lite
2b: Second month = free (due to referral scheme)
3: After second month swap to ROAM = $80
4: End of third month switch to Standby Mode = $8/month

    Total min cost = $316

    Does that sound right?

    • +1

Step 3 you can just go straight to Standby. No need to go to Roam before hand.

So plausible. Let us know how you go.

      • +1

Even better! I think I'll order and will report back.

        • Please do. Would be interested to see how it goes and if it works with no additional fees.

          • +2

@geekcohen: Confirming just ordered and will report back.

    • +3

Received the kit and can confirm that standby mode is an option when activating, so minimum cost = $149 delivered with no additional costs and as long as you activate standby mode @ $8.50 before 30 days then that's the total cost.

  • Has anyone used any 3rd party mounts? If so any you recommend?

    • +1

Yes. Many. Depends what type of roof you have, tin or tiled? There are some that are pretty expensive from a 3rd party in Northern Victoria, but plenty of other alternatives.

Also, where in VIC are you? I might be able to help you out with mounts. I am based in Warragul.

      • Tin roof. Yeah I'm nearby. What mounts do you have?

        • -1

If you are not super particular about the speed, just use some sturdy cable/chain/steel wire rope to tie the kickstand down to a secure anchor on your roof will do. Mine has been like that for almost 2 years :) Dont worry too much about the alignment, it will almost certainly work fine.

          • @timedzone: This is the worst way to do it and I have seen many like this, its terrible. All to save $100 on a roof mount……

            • @geekcohen: I dont see why it is terrible except it might hurt your business. I dont think the dish is going anywhere and the only potential problem is alignment, which is not a big deal.

        • +1

I have a Foxtel style Dish Mount (2 bracing bars) and a pole adaptor. PM me for more info and pricing.

  • +1

can you cancel and use the 500kb option for 5USD a month?

    • +1

That's what I'm intending to do. I don't see why you can't, the terms only say you will lose the $20 discount.

    • +1

      Its $8.50 AUD per month.

  • Is this applicable to the roaming/vanlife option?

    • +1

      No, unfortunately not.

  • I recently cancelled my NBN as it was FTTN that barely passed 80 Mbps.

I need a service that will allow me to stream 4K movies and the occasional Xbox games.

Would Starlink be better than FTTN NBN?

    • In most cases, yes. If you cannot get the FTTP upgrade at the moment, then yes, Starlink could be better for you.

  • Demand Surcharge for WA is A$1,295 WTF ?

    • +1

Similar in areas of SE QLD as well. Its just to high demand in that specific area.

  • +1

Just set mine up. 470/40 right off the bat.

Currently sitting on my pergola with extension cord and wifi on an outdoor table 😂

  • Is this post still valid?
Can't see the hardware being sold for 149$.

Now its free hardware rental +professional installation…

In this case we never own the hardware is that right??

    • Must've changed. They had it ending the 23rd, but must've changed early.

Not sure on the professional installation though………. Not sure whether I would trust it or not. Some of the stories in the US have been bad. I have a number of people reach out to me and say, "the guy that installed it was a TV guy and doesn't really know starlink, we have had some issues".

Plus, could be just like NBN Contractors. You want it in x spot, but they say no, I can only do it in y spot. All because it is easier for them and not considering WiFi coverage etc.

Would be interested in the T&Cs about travel etc as well. I am guessing this would apply. I get this sense this could be an issue for some

If you are not located close to a recommended third-party installer, customers have found success working with local contractors experienced in roof and external wall installations. Starlink will automatically handle the rest (boot up, connect, find satellites).

It also mentions you need a mount, so you have to pay the ~$150 ish for the Starlink Mount. Some of which are not suitable for certain applications like tiled roofs. So additional hardware might be required there.

    • Now its free hardware rental +professional installation…

In this case we never own the hardware is that right??

Correct. You don't own it outright, so the $149 deal was probably better.

    • Oh wtf thats really disappointing, i can't find any clarification on when you do own it? i might submit a ticket but can anyone see terms? is it just after 12 months you own it?

      • I believe you don't own it ever. It is always a rental. If you fail to return it after cancellation, then I think you are charged the full RRP cost of $549.

        • Hows that work if its been 'professionally installed' though? Are they going to 'uninstall' it?
