Starlink Standard Satellite Internet Kit $149 (RRP $549) & $20/Month off Residential Plans for 12 Months (from $79/M) @ Starlink

1250

Official T&Cs

Offer is only valid for new customers during their first year. Discount will apply to one service line. Customers who change their plan, cancel their service, or are suspended will lose their promotional pricing. The service promotional offering varies by location. Other terms and conditions may apply. Terms and duration are subject to change.

Both offers end on the 23rd of October.

Its back and better than ever! After the previous deal expired at the start of the month, its on again, but just over 70% off!

Got questions? Check on other deals that it hasn't been answered before. A lot of questions come up every deal.

It is for any location, plus there is $20/mo off any Residential Plan for your first 12 months. But you need to factor in that some locations have a congestion charge (like SE QLD).

Retailers are yet to price drop.

If you order it from Starlink using the referral process/links via OzBargain, you can get 1 Free Month! (Pay the 1st month, get a credit for the 2nd month). Applies to pretty much all plans. If you buy from a retailer, you are not eligible for 1 month free. Delivery from Starlink is usually quick. Had one to VIC in 48 hours, most come within a few days via Australia Post.

This is more suited for homes and businesses with fixed locations. If you are WFH or running a business, go the $139 Residential Plan, not the lite plan. If you want roaming, then sure, you can get this kit and use it for travelling. But it is a bit of a pain as it requires 240V or the DC-DC power supply at $180 AUD. The standard kit has high power requirements and consumption compared to the Mini. If you want something for travelling, go the Mini (currently $599) which can run on 12V and is an all in one solution (dish + router/wifi etc all in one).

Speed Tests of the Gen 3 Standard Kit can be found here including Latency, Residential Lite speed test can be found here. If you want to see a comparison of Residential Home vs Residential Lite, that can be found here.

Also month to month speed test comparison available here demonstrating that since October 2024, speeds have been getting faster and faster month on month.

Two Residential Plan Option:

  • Residential - The most popular plan for typical residential customers. Unlimited data.
  • Residential Lite - An affordable option for smaller households and lower internet usage. Unlimited deprioritised data. Speeds may be lower than our Residential service at peak hours.

Some key points that often come up in discussion.

  • Already on NBN FTTP?
Stay put. A dedicated fibre link still gives the lowest latency, faster download/upload speeds, and gigabit-class throughput—perfect for streaming, gaming, and business workloads.

  • On NBN FTTN or NBN FTTC?
Check here to see if you are eligible to get NBN FTTP.

  • On NBN Fixed Wireless, or NBN Satellite?
Starlink will almost always deliver a noticeably faster, more consistent connection—as long as you have a clear view of the sky.

  • Why FTTP is hard to beat
Fibre’s \~1–5 ms latency and high upload head-room simply can’t be matched by any satellite service, including Starlink. If you can order FTTP, it remains the gold standard.

  • Why Starlink shines everywhere else
Where fibre isn’t available, Starlink sidesteps ageing copper loops and congested wireless towers, providing city-like download speeds (often 150–300 Mbps) and far lower latency than legacy NBN Satellite.

  • Bottom line for regional users
In most rural areas, Starlink is the best upgrade path over Fixed Wireless or Satellite NBN—bringing reliable, high-speed internet to places the fibre rollout hasn’t reached.

Starlink Referrals

Referral: random (152)

The referrer and referee receives bonus credit for a month of standard service, 30 days after the referee activates and keeps their Starlink. Referrals will only issue credits to Standard Plan (Residential) and Mobile Regional (Roam) subscriptions. Kits purchased from a retailer or reseller are not eligible for the referral program. No credit will be given even if a referral link was used during activation.

    Why Starlink shines everywhere else

HFC, whilst not as reliable as FTTP and slower uploads with the new speed changes, will still be much better satellite services.

    • +11

Yep, was about to say, definitely don't move off HFC to Starlink. HFC is leaps and bounds ahead of it. The new NBN speed tiers, even on HFC, make this more so the case.

      • +1

HFC is really good and has no dropouts at all. I get 1 Gbps, and I heard there will be 2Gbps plans soon.

        • +1

Very soon! New speeds from the 14th Sep (this Sunday).
Source NBN: "From September 14th, we will also launch our first mass market multi-gig speed tiers offering consumers 2000/200 Mbps on FTTP and 2000/100 Mbps on HFC"

        • HFC is really good and has no dropouts at all.

YMMV. It's terribly unreliable in some areas, in others the infrastructure is much better condition. Your statement doesn't match everyone's experience.

    • +3

Sure, I would only consider starlink if I was not in an area and no prospect of speeds higher than starlink provides.

  • And for townhouse complexes where the strata would not even consider asking for each unit of $275 for a quote to upgrade from FTTC to FTTP!

    • +4

      $275 each for a quote???

      • +1

$275 per townhouse x 6 townhouses = $1650 for the nbn FTTP installation.

The hard part is getting the strata to agree.

        • so $275 each to install or get a quote?
of it's 6x$275 just to get a quote, I'd be saying bugger off too.

          • @M00Cow: $275 each for the nbn FTTP installation. This only applies to multi-dwelling units/townhouses.

            • @Twix: My Villa is right near the street, can I get NBN Co to sneak install FTTP and I'll pay the the $275… :P

              • +3

@Jubei: I wanted to do this too but answer is no because quite often it involves common property. The strata committee is occupied by people who don't need fast internet so I'm stuck.

                • @ymmf: Tell them you’ll organise it all and pay for it up front and they can just take it out of your fees lol

  • Imagine you paid full price for starlink

    • +1

People have and will continue to. I know of two people who have in the last few days. The Starlink specials are speratic and some people cannot/will not hold out.

    • +10

No different to anything else that goes on sale periodically. I've been caught out occasionally. Sometimes you just need something when you need it and can't hold out till the next time.

    • -1

They don't charge what it costs. They charge more because they can. Thats the Apple's. They both now are very rich. Imagine Nokia charged extra like them. Nokia should have still remained today.

      • +2

        StarLink is profitable.

        A couple of points:

        1. The Gillette sales model is very common (give away the handle, sell razor blades)
        2. The main cost for StarLink is launching satellites into orbit. Once in orbit the on-going costs are small in comparison.

NBN is similar: The main cost is in rolling out the fibre. The cost to provide a 12Mbps or 1Gbps service is the same since it uses the same hardware. The only difference is if people use the higher speeds to transfer more data.

        • The main cost for StarLink is launching satellites into orbit. Once in orbit the on-going costs are small in comparison.

And even then, it is "at cost". Its not like people like Amazon or other customers they pay x plus % which is the profit.

    • +3

Yeah I paid $600 about 18 months ago. No regrets - it was a necessity as I couldn't WFH on NBN Skymuster. For people on Skymuster, Starlink is a godsend at any price.

    • +6

i actually agree, unfortunately there isn't really an alternative and the product is actually good.

      • There are a few that are getting there, slowly, the main one is from Amazon. So yeah, pick your poison. It takes so much money to do this kind of thing that you're not going to get anyone other than cut-throat businesses doing it.

        • OneWeb looked promising however it appears to have refocused to servicing business / government customers.

      • +10

A lot of people seem very confused as to what fascism actually is. It is actually a political philosophy where the collective (eg fatherland) and the needs of the people, as identified by the ruling clique, has absolute priority over the individual. A pernicious thing one of my uncles died fighting.

It should not be just a childish form of abuse for people we don’t like.

        • +4

Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political ideology, characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy, subordination of individual interests for the perceived interest of the nation or race, and strong regimentation of society and the economy.

They often do salutes like the one musk did

        • +2

They're not confused, they're mentally deranged. Marxists (which includes today's Progressives) have always labelled any form of opposition to them as "fascism".

          • @umexcuseme: Here's the pot calling the kettle black, throwing in a few random terms they believe are insulting, but are ignorant of the meaning of.

        • +4

Facism…….."A pernicious thing one of my uncles died fighting"….
Which nation was your uncle fighting against/in? Italy up to 1943? Or are you inventing a new meaning for the word facism?

Some people seem to be unaware that the definition of facism is something subject to significant debate, but most knowledgable people know the original use of the word… which is a description of mussolini's italian political system, where the "state"…. not the ruling clique, has absolute priority over individual rights.

Some people are aware that the word derives from the latin word "fasces" which was an ancient roman item used as a symbol of power and authority by certain designated positions.

Your simplistic description of the use of this word here as "a childish form of abuse for people we don't like"… is absolutely wrong. Trump's political system is the closest to WW2 italy since that time…. if you can't even make that link from it's key mantra "maga" you're not thinking clearly.

Its use here to describe musk is particularly appropriate, as he was the keystone of maga's war on individual rights by the state, with his symbolic chainsaw and his group of horribly inexperienced post adolescent young men dismantling the structures of a country's administrative system, with devastating consequence to the rights of countless individuals in america and across the world.

I'm completely aware of words from the political arena being used out of context by people ignorant of their meaning…. "communist" is the most common example. However facism was used in the post above with absolute accuracy.

Will you read and digest these words, or after using the phrase "one of my uncles died fighting", to introduce tragic seriousness, will you respond with a few words of dismissive nonchalance?

            • +2

@191919: it's funny how an issue that is of burning importance to someone isn't worth a reply.

Generally a line or two does the job…. but sometimes people are too silly for that.

I guess you understood the facism bit straight off.

                • +1

@191919: You're being forced to read everything on this site? I'm sure there's a word for the type of world that happens in…

                  • @banana365: touche, carry on, my bad, enjoy your conversation

          • -2

@rooster7777: Uh huh. There Isn’t much difference between Italian fascism and German national socialism.

And yes, how the name fascism is used to day is extremely childish. And wrong.

            • -2

@entropysbane: And yes, how the name fascism is used to day is extremely childish. And wrong. except when it's accurate and right, in this case.

You make the assertion that it wasn't appropriate without justification, and maintain that position in the face of utter factual contradiction without a shred of logic.

You still haven't answered if your uncle died fighting 1740-1943 italy, or if you yourself used the term incorrectly.

    • The quality of the product aside, it is for a fact that the founder is of that political stance. Unsure whey you're negged.

  • +10

    Demand Surcharge $1,295

I demand sir, you uncharge me!

  • +5

Man, I wish they'd have a deal on the mini already.

    • You and the long list of many others. Last time was Xmas/New Year. Hopefully it'll happen soon.

  • +2

Same as last time, but the price is over $1800 for residential. Pass. I will wait until $5000

    • +1

I am guessing because of the congestion charge.

  • +4

Tempting. I live in a self-contained unit without a bodycorp/strata, and NBN refuses to acknowledge such properties exist.

    • +3

Can't make an arrangement to piggyback off the connection of the main house by running an underground Ethernet cable or using a unifi nationstation?

      • I'm not sure I understand, but I'd say no. To be clear, I'm in 1 of 5 units which are all laid out along a street (just like stand-alone houses). If I understand your suggestion, this would be like asking the person who lives 4 houses down "Can I attach a cable to your internet and run it down to my house?".

        • Genuinely interested: how is this different to a townhouse?

          • +1

@spicygastropod: As far as I know, when the street was originally divided up, they left a long blank spot for some reason, but later decided to put properties there, but the street had already been numbered by that point, so they just decided to give each of the new properties a 1/1 type number. And as soon as NBN's system sees the slash it goes "you're a unit please get your bodycorp to organise it". Even if I call and explain to a human they say there's nothing they can do.

            • +1

@narcoleptic-haze: Do you 100% own your own land? If so you should be entitled to NBN.

            • +1

@narcoleptic-haze: Put your location details here. Ask for a $0 FTTP installation because you own the unit and don't have a body corp in the additional details section. nbn may update your location to a $0 installation.

              • @Twix: Yeah tried that a few times, even called them up to explain to someone. I get stuck because it says:

"Only a Strata Manager or representative of the Owners Corporation/Body Corporate is permitted to submit this form. If you would like to proceed, please ask the relevant individuals to complete this form on behalf of the building."

  • +5

Comes up as $849 for me. Seems discount doesn’t apply and I get a bonus surcharge. :(

    • You surcharge is probably a majority of that cost. Some locations unfortunately get a surchage due to popularity in that area.

      • +2

Noop. Full price + surcharge. Discount doesn’t apply to my area, says “select areas”.

        • +2

Bugger, a bit misleading since there is nothing visible regarding T&Cs and not being for selected areas only.

Found the T&Cs on the order page

Offer is only valid for new customers during their first year. Discount will apply to one service line. Customers who change their plan, cancel their service, or are suspended will lose their promotional pricing. The service promotional offering varies by location. Other terms and conditions may apply. Terms and duration are subject to change.

  • +2

This is ridiculously cheap. I just moved to FTTP and was about to gift my dish to a family member that should switch, but at this price they'd be better off getting a new dish.

$240 saved over the 12 month period dwarfs the $150 dish price. In fact shouldn't anyone currently on starlink churn to a new plan and recycle their dish?

  • Demand Surcharge A$295
    No thanks!

    • Still saving with the $149 Hardware special.

      RRP - $549 + $295 Surcharge - $844
      Special - $149 + $295 Surchage - $444

      Still saving $400!

      • -2

You save the whole lot with NBN

        • Yeah, sure, if your NBN is reliable and FTTP/HFC. Those in Rural areas have crappy NBN. Starlink is worth the price if you have had a crap service.

  • +5

Starlink for me is nothing but a failover; 2nd hand dish from marketplace and $5 a month for unlimited 512kbps.

    • $5 a month for unlimited 512kbps.

      $5 in the US…. AU is $8.50.

    • Teach me master, how can I get this? Seems good for VoWIFI calling when driving in regional areas with Starlink mini, where even without Telstra.

  • +2

For some reason the hardware is showing as full price in my checkout

  • Does the mini ever go on sale?

    • +2

Yes. It did last Xmas/New Year for $299. Hasn't been on sale since.

    • +3

NBN is great, but if you live anywhere rural, NBN can be actual garbage. For those people, Starlink may be a compelling option for reliable high-speed internet. But if you live in any somewhat metropolitan area, you'd definitely just be wasting money on Starlink.

    • +1

Obviously you have no idea lol

      • Like more than 80% of Australian living in city/suburban areas. So why pay more if you don't live in country/rural area? Why pay the extra surcharge, quipment charge and maybe installation cost? The NBN costs none of that

But if you want to join the herd to show your support then just admit it!

NBN is a great Australian infrastructure project. Support Australian jobs and economy!

        • City and Suburbs? Yeah, NBN is mostly great, I'm on it.

However, using your own figures "20%" of people aren't able to enjoy it - 1/5th of the population!
They've also, sadly, nuked all the cheap options, you need more than $60 a month spare to have NBN.

On starlink, $8.50 a month gets you unlimited 512kbps, which for people like my parents means:
          * VOIP phone
          * VoWiFi Mobile phones
          * e-mail
          * facebook messaging
          * 480p~720p media (they just stream live news, SD iView, and SD SBSonDemand).

It's way better than the FTTN they had, which would drop at least half a dozen times a day because the copper is ancient.
I've worked in the IT industry long enough to know that people will almost always choose the reliable slow option, over the unreliable fast one.

I'm sure that'll change when they eventually do FTTP in their area, but will they have a price competitive option by then for ultra-light users? We'll see…

          • @MasterScythe: This deal appears to be $79/month minimum? Not $8.50/month

Your parents' situation seems to make a lot of sense in that case. It's some of the city people on here that seem to bang on about Starlink internet just be cause it's SpaceX

            • @lovebargain87:

This deal appears to be $79/month minimum? Not $8.50/month

For 1 month, yeah, then you can switch to 'Standby' and it'll be cheap :)

  • +1

waiting for the mini discount too return. Annoyed I didn't pull the trigger before

  • Elon Musk trying to retake richest man from Larry Ellison (Oracle)

    • He did that the minute after it happened. And has now pulled away. They are both good friends and business partners.

  • +3

$1295 demand surcharge you can shove that where the sun don't shine.

  • +1

Use this to bring FB marketplace used starlinks down to dirt cheap price.

  • +2

Oof! $1296 Demand Surcharge due to popularity in my area!

Boonah, 2 hours west of the Gold Coast…

    • Check FB marketplace. Plenty used selling here. Everyone dumping starlink for newly upgraded FTTP suburbs.

      • +1

Still get surcharge when you sign up.

  • +2

$1295 demand surcharge is a giant con.

  • Any starlink mini/roam deals?

    • Unfortunately looks like the Hardware Discount is excluded for Roam. You can use the Starlink Standard Kit on Roam, just a bit more hardware (Router, Cable etc) and higher power consumption. You can get a 12V DC to DC PSU for the Starlink Standard Kit (valued at $180), but it is just a step up converter from 12v to 54v. So consumption is still higher than the Mini.

The mini is a great solution and hasn't been on special for a while (since Xmas/New Year).

      • Thanks. Hopefully there's another deal on the mini before December when I'll be on the road for a year.

        • Hopefully. If I see it and it hasn't been posted, I'll post the deal.

  • If you're having demand surcharge what's stopping you from getting it delivered to your grandma in suburban Sydney/Melb and shipped to your address, on the pretense that you've now permanently relocated?

    • Because when you do the change the service address, you'll still get the demand surcharge and you will lose the special monthly pricing. The only saving would be the hardware ($400).

  • Anyone know if you can cancel a current Starlink service and get this deal as a new one ?
